Got wait-listed, it took them approx 2 weeks after the interview to notify. Not sure why so quickly!? Does anybody know what percentage of students are accepted from the wait list at SBU?

I got wait-listed too, was my top choice. I don't want to pay for an inferior private education. 🙁

There is such variable information on how many students get off the waiting list, when they get off it, the existence of a high priority waitlist, etc. Just knowing that about 600 are interviewed and 300 are accepted doesn't tell us much.

Still, we can't lose hope.

Anyone else interview in late October and not hear back yet?

I interviewed in early November and still haven't heard. Don't know what is taking so long.

Also waitlisted here. Is it because they already filled their class? Sounds like all I've heard from december interviewees were waitlists.

I just withdrew my interview here, which was scheduled for this Thurs, the 13th. If someone wants to move up their interview then by all means. 🙂 GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey all

Also waitlisted here *big bummer* Does anyone know (if there are any Stony Brook MS1-4's on this thread who can comment) about wait list movement?

How many people are waitlisted and about how what percentage get the call?

So want to stay in state...

waitlist movement seems to be variable -- i got in off waitlist last year in june (i think i interviewed in early november). and I know at least one student in our class who got in off the waitlist like a week before classes started. I tried to check waitlist movement threads when I was applying, but it wasn't all that helpful and was actually quite variable.. but as far as i know, a good many of my class got in from the waitlist. (Also, I dont know if it makes a difference, but the people that I know of who got in from waitlist had already been set to go elsewhere -- myself included)

good luck guys! it's a hellish process but well worth it! (ok fine, its a lot of work but they try to remind us every so often of why we signed up to do this in the first place!)
:luck::luck:

GPA 3.93 Science 3.90 MCAT 29 im also a nys resident and am a co-author on a publication, which i think helped out

Nice GPA! I could never get it that high. Anyone know the what the Median GPA is?

I interviewed in early November and was waitlisted.

Wait list is still great. When I interviewed 2 of the 3 students who were giving me a tour of the school got in off the waitlist, and if 300 of the 600 interviewed get an acceptance there is a good chance their waitlist will move.

For some reason every person I've ever met that interviewed there got waitlisted and didn't come off of it (though I know that it does happen). Out of the SUNYs it's probably my top choice (I was accepted to Upstate and would be happy there though). I guess I'll see where I stand in early April and consider sending an LOI at that point.

send it sooner rather than later. it really should've been sent after your interview but before the decision.

It isn't my top choice overall though, and honestly I'd like to see where I stand at all schools before sending anything like that out. Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it. 🙂

Stony Brook is my top choice, but I interviewed almost two and a half months ago and haven't heard a thing. Do you guys think they would be annoyed if I called to ask about my file, or may they see it as me being still interested in the school?

I interviewed here on 1/13.

The admissions office said that it take 2-6 weeks for a decision to be made post interview, but could take longer based on committee deliberations.

It seems like most people posting haven't heard in well over 6 weeks... Anyone have any idea what kind of committee deliberations might be occurring? Maybe they need to come to a unanimous decision on acceptance/rejection/waitlist?

Anyway, has anyone heard back in less than 6 weeks recently? Or has everyone been getting delayed from November interviews and on?

I interviewed in November and heard back in under 3 weeks.

As I mentioned before, I interviewed in late October and have yet to hear from them. I looked at last years thread and most individuals that waited over ~9 weeks for a response ended up getting waitlisted. There was one that was waitlisted after 4 months of waiting for a response.

They might be possibly moving a little slower because of the holiday season, and break and stuff. Maybe they will pick up speed around next week. I inerviewed the last week november and heard two weeks later. If you interivewed in december and january they might just be slow because of the holidays.

I think it depends on the interviewer you have and how available he or she is for the committee meetings..I interviewed on Dec 20th and heard back in EXACTLY 2 weeks that I was waitlisted. I expected a much longer wait due to the holidays but I guess it depends on how fast things are submitted relative to your individual situation and interviewer!

Also I don't think the time span has anything to do with the decision made so try not to freak out and over analyze!

Hey guys, so I heard there was a high priority wait list at this school..do any of you know about this? and if you do end up in this HPWL, do they tell you in the email notification?

I interviewed the first week of November and still haven't heard back 🙁

wow, so apparently I've lost my mind - I interviewed first week of December, not November 😕 I think I've been so nervous and anxious to hear back that time just feels longer. After a rejection from another school Stony has now become my top choice, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

To all of those who interviewed in October and November and haven't heard yet, I called the admissions office today and they said that it is very common for the committee to take months to decide, and that the 4-8 week time limit that they gave us doesn't really mean anything. So, basically she said that they have no idea when they will make decisions about us.

oh how wonderful 🙁

I've been calling home and having my grandma check the mail for me every day (and she doesn't speak English so it's a process having her read the mail lol) and it is slowly driving me crazy 😱 I really want to go to Stony Brook and just wish I could hear back already (it's been 6 weeks now) !
At the end of the day though, what will be, will be and we all need to try to be patient if we want to remain at least moderately sane for med school, even though it's so hard not to count down to mail time every day

For all those accepted already, congrats! For all those in my boat, still anxiously waiting, good luck! Hopefully we'll all be hearing good news relatively soon :luck:

Rejected pre-interview. Snail mail letter dated Jan 11. 🙁

Thanks. When did you interview? It has been about 12 weeks for me. Do I hold the title for the longest delay?

I interviewed on 11/4 so it's been 11 weeks for me. I guess you've got me beat haha. Super annoying isn't it??

I hope you all hear soon that is super annoying that they haven't given you anything yet. Hang in there everyone

yea stuy haha

not to intrude on your convo, but that's pretty cool to see people from Stuy on here - I'm from Stuy myself, haven't seen fellow alumni on the med school trail though so pretty cool to see it on SDN at least 🙂 good luck to both of you!
