A few questions for updating stony brook after an acceptance:

Do we have to send in our transcripts from this past semester or just after we graduate? And if so, do we send it officially through the clearinghouse again?

Do we have to notify them of course changes (deviations from future courses listed in AMCAS), or just of changes in our academic plan (majors, minor, graduation dates)?
'
I asked them about grades you only need to send them after you have graduated. If you are changing your major/minor etc. you need to notify them of this change in writing and they then have to present it to the committee who will review it. I only know this because i had to dropped one my minors. Hope that helps.

I wish I could get back the life I wasted on those stupid, grammatically incorrect secondary responses.

Has anyone hear back from the school yet for January interviews 😕?

I interviewed on 17th.

Well I interviewed that week, and just glad someone else is in the same boat as me and wondering.

The waiting is the worse, especially when there are other offers of acceptance on the table.
fingers crossed that it will be soon.:xf:

Interviewed third week in January, just got the waitlist email... pretty bummed.🙁

Wow, me too! Interviewed pretty much the same time (Jan 20th), now I'm waitlisted.
And I really like this school!
But I guess wait list isn't the end of the world. Soon the people with 5 acceptances will drop the 4 and we get to have our day!

Hey all that are waitlisted, have faith! My cousin and best friend from high school were both initially waitlisted and then offered acceptances in May at SB in previous years. Seems like there should be some movement eventually.

Is anyone going to Stony Brook revisited or pre-orientation? Excluding any pesky apocalyptic episodes, this is pretty much where I'll be going in the fall (sweet!). I'm currently living far, far away but I'm trying to decide if its worth it to make it back to the east coast for either of these events 🙂

I'm probably going to both of them, but Stony Brook is only a 7 hour drive for me. I'm not sure what event would be better, but the revisit I feel like is more for you to get to know the school better, helping you make the decision whether to go there or not. If anything I would probably go to pre-orientation, just because you get to know the hospital system better, and since you need to accept to one school by may 15th these students will most likely be going to SB in the fall. That's just what I think, hope it helped. I can't wait to go to SB in the fall, I'm so excited lol.

Does anyone happen to know if Stony is still sending out interview offers?

Thanks!

if you've already decided then definitely skip revisited. pre-orientation is pretty important though for getting acquainted with the school and your future classmates and figuring out housing.

Interviewed on 1/13
Waitlisted by e-mail this week
No love for Husbuss 🙁

Thanks!

I just got one today =)

Waitlist is better than nothing!

Does anybody know if there's a big waitlist movement?

A bunch of schools are still sending out invites! and judging from the threads from a couple years ago, there is usually some solid movement on the waitlist. Don't lose faith fellow premeds and waitlisters.:luck:

Question: Are we interviewing primarily for waitlist slots? I understand some schools say that explicitly, but I didn't see that in the email. Would like to know; any/all insight would be appreciated!

...and yes, waitlist is better than nothing!

I interviewed recently and the assistant dean for admissions told my group that your chances at an immediate acceptance do not depend on what time during the cycle you are interviewed, i.e. you have a chance even if you interview on the last day.

I can only speak from my own interview experience, but here it is.

If you're driving and unfamiliar with Stony Brook's Hospital, leave good and early. Traffic can be bad, parking is tricky, and its a bit of a windy trek through the hospital to the Admissions Office. There is a Starbucks in the main lobby; I definitely utilized that resource 🙂

I hung out with a few other applicants in a little board room until my first interviewer was ready. Both interviews went the full hour and were back to back (phew!). They were very conversational and generally pretty easy going. I'm sure this experience varies depending on who your interviewer is, but it doesn't seem like they have any questions they are required to ask so its pretty informal. They really just want to get to know you and figure out whether or not you are a good fit for Stony Brook. I was asked some questions about my courses, the infamous, "Why do you want to be a doctor?", to describe my research, other schools I had interviews at, where I saw myself in ten years, but mostly just had interesting conversations.

At noon, we had lunch with several M2's and were able to ask questions for about a half hour. Afterwards, we had a fairly quick tour of the facilities and saw the anatomy lab, lecture hall, student lounge, library, and most importantly, a ping pong table. Had a quick financial aid talk and a talk from Dean Agnetti. All I really remember from that was her estimate that they had 4700 applicants for c/o 2015. Overall, it was a very good day and a good length (not to long, not to short).

Anyway, that's all I got. Have a good time, and don't stress! Best of luck!

Anyone made the facebook page for class of 2015?

No I am waiting for one to go up. I am unaware how to make one or else I would lol. I did make a Class of 2015 thread, so please join if you want. Any one planning on going to the revisit weekend in April. I was considering it, but I am planning on attending SB, so I dont know if it will be that useful.

I'm waiting till the end of March, and if its not up, I'll make one. I'll def be at the revisit. If you will definitely go to SB it might not be that helpful, but I cant remember a lot of what I heard on the interview day so it might be informative

I will probably pass on revisited because I'm definitely going there.

Anyone interested in starting a Stony Brook 2011 Waitlist Thread?

Anyone interested in starting a Stony Brook 2011 Waitlist Thread?

I'm still waiting on hearing back. It should be soon...I interviewed on the 4th of February, and people here have heard back that interviewed on the 3rd. I'm hoping that means I didn't get a snailmail reject. I would be interested though if I get stuck on wait though. :scared:

does anyone know to whom I should send a letter of interest? Thanks

You can either sent it via email (probably easier, more efficient) straight to their admissions email, or you can sent it via snail mail to their admissions office.

cool, thanks so much!

and good luck everyone who is applying!

Anybody know how long it takes for them to come up with a decision after an interview? Thanks! I can't seem to remember.

Anyone going to Second Look Weekend or know what it'll be like? I'm trying to decide whether to take a day off from work to drive down from Boston. I hope they make it worth it, but I'm skeptical because it's only from 11am-4pm...

Hey Everyone! Congratulations to all the accepted applicants. I love Stony Brook and may very well end up here. To applicants on the waitlist..its not over til its over. Stay positive!
