My buddy just got an acceptance from Tech today. He matched into A&M as his #1. Yet he got an email today with todays date but it still had prematch deadlines written on it. Also I cant access any match information on TMDSAS.

Wait, WHAT??? 😱 Your buddy might want to contact Tech and confirm, just in case.

Two days ago, the admissions lady told me the waitlist wouldn't be finalized till early March...

Im just wondering if this has anything to do with A&M screwing up royally
 
Wait? Did he already prematch to A&M so on match day did it say that he had matched to A&M???😕
He couldn't have gotten in off the waitlist considering one hasn't been sent out yet (not to my knowledge, which is based on what the admissions at Tech told me). I too think this is something to do with the A&M drama.

That is just not fair. 😱

Does TTUHSC end the 2nd year early (i.e. March) to allow students time to study for the STEP 1 exam?

We finish at the end of the first week of May (a month earlier than MSI) and have until the end of June to take STEP- most people seem to be scheduling for early-mid June to have a few weeks of vacation. 3rd year clinicals start right after the July 4th holiday.
 
Has anyone done an open records request for Tech. I noticed in other Texas med school forums, students were obtaining open records of their med school application and any other information. Just wanted to see if anyone has contacted Tech about it.
 
Formally withdrew my MD/MBA acceptance (with scholarship) today after much deliberation. Since the dual degree program doesn't participate in the match I was able to give this some thought over the past couple weeks and compare it to the school I matched with.

🙂 Thank you! 🙂 I just wrote my letter of intent the other day and sent it to Mrs. Prado... It was geared toward my ability to be an asset in this program, so your withdrawal gives me some hope. Good luck at the school you matched with :luck:
 
Has anyone heard anything about the alternate list at all in Lubbock? Does anyone know the possible amounts of those who get in off the waitlist? 🙂

Nope.

Although, I did get an e-mail the other day. I decided to apply for the MD/MBA the day of my interview, and the e-mail I recieved said that if I still want to be considered for it I need to e-mail TMDSAS and tell them to change my application. I hope that means I'm making it to the waitlist.

Really? I thought they selected people to be on it and rejected the rest (I have no idea btw). Waiting for my rejection so I can have some closure... 🙂
 
at the reapplicant seminar, they said they will select people for an alternate pool, but I haven't received an email. Has anyone else?

That's the impression I got from the MS's I talked too. In previous years the tech waitlist has been known to shift a lot. Unless it was a huge bomb you shouldn't be tossed. Maybe I misinterpreted though, I guess we'll see.
 
Alternates to be emailed either today or Monday..can't believe I'm nervous to see if I'm even on the list...

Just got my waitlist email! Looks like we won't know anything more until, at least, May according to the letter. Let the waiting begin!! Hopefully some spots open up!:luck:🙂

I got mine a few hours ago... And I was sad when they said we have to wait until May! Last year they started pulling people off in late March early April (if I remember correctly from last years thread). Also, I'm applying MD/MBA, which starts in late May, so I'm screwed if they don't give me more than a months notice to move... I mean, heck yes I would do it, but leaving my job without enough notice will not be good... 🙁

Oh well. Looks like this year isn't going to work out for me. I'm thinking I'll wait till next year to reapply for 2013 admission and not waste my money this go around.
 
I've received neither a waitlist email or rejection. So I'm gonna assume the latter.

I'm sorry to hear this... Don't give up, it will all work out in the end. 🙂

So now we know that everyone was not automatically put into the waitlist pile as stated before. I have some news for those of you applying MD/MBA... After speaking with Mrs. Prado, she said that these acceptances will be finished by May 1st. So we will find out before May for this program. Which is nice. If we even get acceptances when people drop... She said they overfilled their class already.

Guess what? I got one of those yesterday, and then I got another one this morning with the subject line "No offer on TTUHSC Wait List". The body of the email was the same rejection as yesterday's with the clarification that I really am not on the waiting list. I got it yesterday Tech, but thanks. 🙂

She didn't say... But I don't think overfilling is uncommon. They always accept way more people than they need for their class thinking that many will drop... And they will. But this may be why we have to wait until freaking May!
 
For those people who are going to spring training, did anyone happen to write down the schedule of events when you were doing the Survey?

I just want to know what in general we are doing to help plan flights and such.

Got an acceptance on 3/10 and just sent an email declining the offer. It was such a hard decision, but I hope it goes to one of y'all 🙂 :luck:

If you do not mind me asking, did you rank Tech above the school with whom you matched? If so, what changed your mind in the intervening period to cause you to turn them down? If not, I thought Tech considered you "off the table," so I am curious as to why they extended the post-match offer to you under such circumstances.

I think it had something to do with the A&M over acceptances... I could be wrong, but I did hear that they were extending offers to help them out. And that would mean that this post match acceptance was not a waitlist thing... Haven't heard of waitlist movement, so this would make sense. 😳

I actually ranked them last (#6) and matched to my #2 (A&M) so this came as a complete surprise. I agree with the poster above that it was probably to help A&M out to solve their overfilling problem. The main reason for turing down the offer was because lubbock is too far away from home and the fact that they have a lottery system for determining where you do your last two years. I'm a big city person so I don't think I'd be happy in Lubbock let alone someplace like Odessa or Amarillo and I basically have no say in where I'd be going. It really was a horrible decision to make esp since in the A&M situation and am at risk of being deferred, but I just felt I'd be much happier at A&M however it turns out and MUCH closer to the fam 🙂 hope this helps and all the best Noshie!!!

It is my understanding that A&M asked the other schools to go ahead and extend offers to A&M acceptees earlier rather than later, but only if the schools would have extended an offer under ordinary circumstances. I feel this request in and of itself is wrong, but it appears that Tech has taken this further and extended offers to A&M acceptees that they would not normally extend. With all due respect to you doctor freak, it makes no sense for Tech to extend an offer to someone who has already rejected their previous offer by ranking Tech lower in the match. No wonder we are being told not to expect to hear anything from the waitlist until May -- we have to wait for the A&M acceptees to mull over the preferential offers. This practice has the appearance of cronyism and frustrates me to no end. Hey Tech -- I ranked you higher than the school with which I was matched; I want to attend your school; make me an offer!

Hey Legally Insane, I agree with you 100%, I don't know why they offered me a spot even though I ranked them so low. Just to avoid any confusion, I didn't prematch here so it's not like I was re-offered a spot. But nevertheless, preference should be given to y'all who ranked them higher and you guys shouldn't have to pay for a mistake that A&M made. Seems like us A&M'ers aren't the only ones suffering the consequences of A&M's blunder 🙁 what a mess. I really hope you guys get in to Tech, at least there's one more spot open. Best of luck y'all.

I did not. However, I would like to know if I would be missing out terribly if I left on Saturday (late afternoon). I'm flying in from CA and it's the only flight out that has a rapid reward ticket available (thank goodness for SW airlines!).

I'm an MSII so I am not in the class preparing for your Spring Training but I can tell you that last year on Saturday the morning was open for people to look at apartments, sleep in, etc. We had a BBQ at a park for lunch and people played football, frisbee, or just visited, and then had more free time in afternoon where people could look at apartments and several MSI's had their apartments open if their complex didn't have open hours in the afternoon. Saturday night was a social night at a local bar. So I would say if you have an idea where you want to live then you shouldn't have a problem. Friday evening was when dinner and activities on campus so you could learn your way around happened and then we went out for drinks. So, you would miss a little socialization but I didn't even come to Spring Training (was living OOS) and didn't have any issues meeting people when I arrived here.

Lectures are usually in the afternoons 1pm -4 or 5 (sometimes just til 3), I have only gone to a handful of lectures all year as audio is almost always available and I like to speed them up and listen to them in the evenings.

Tuesday and Thursday mornings are almost always free to schedule your community preceptor times (once a month we go to a physicians office in the community to work with them- you do get some choice in what specialty you are in but almost all spots are primary care fields). There are some clinical workshops (maybe 6-8 over year) that are during those times- most are at the beginning of year.

On M/W/F there can be some lectures in the mornings depending on the block- this was most common in Neuro (the first block).

Usually one Wed morning a month is a clinical lecture and one is a clinical small group meeting.

Exams are around every 2 weeks and some are at 9am while others are at 1pm. We only have 1 exam at a time to study for with exception of the 2 clinical exams that are in December and April and are considered easy by most.

I went to spring training and helped plan it last year. You are welcome to leave whenever, but the biggest event is normally Saturday night. The past 2 years it involved dinner, a comedian, and socializing at a local bar. This year the administration has gotten much more strict about alcohol, so the location might have to change. I would still try and attend if you can (if you enjoy meeting people). If you are more non-social then you might not enjoy it much and could probably leave. I know that i was having so much fun my year i wouldn't have wanted to miss sat. night though.

Has anyone heard anything bad about Savoy Apartments? I'm thinking about leasing there.

Got accepted last week to the MD/MBA program and I'm gonna take the offer. Originally was going to A&M for MD/MBA. Hooray!
 
I really hope there is waitlist movement... I'm worried there won't be much this year... 🙁
