I was super late (financial issues). Secondary submitted in December, but my application was not actually "complete" until early February because of a misunderstanding with my course requirements. I did send a few update letters though, and kept in constant contact with admissions since that time.
Would you mind sharing your GPA and MCAT

And congratulations

Interview invite today!!!! I am SO excited! This is my TOP TOP TOP choice! I also know someone else who was invited this week as well! They are on a roll this week!

Congrattts! That's great! Do you mind sharing your stats? :luck: with everything!

Are you a Florida resident or out of state?

Hello all, longtime reader and basically first time poster.

I sent an update email to FSU recently (about 6 weeks ago) describing what I have been up to. I briefly discussed what I like about FSU and why I would be very interested in attending along with providing grades and ec updates. Would it be appropriate for me to send them another email describing in more detail why I would fit well there or would this be written off as an annoyance? I have not interviewed here but I understand they are still offering IIs on a very limited basis and was wondering if something like this could push a borderline candidate over the top. I don't have any noteworthy new accomplishments or activities but would like to stay in touch. I am aware that this type of stuff should probably have gone in the secondary app, but I did not discuss it extensively there. As I have learned more about FSU I have more to say about what I like as opposed to before when I just blanket applied to instate schools. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hey, sorry for the delay. I am a FL resident. GPA <3.5 MCAT <30. I do have my Master's degree, and I have a 4.0 graduate GPA. My thesis work is published and I have years and years of research experience as well as teaching experience.

dalovely561, did you do anything in particular after your interview? Like send a LOI or call your interviewers? I would love to know if doing any of that made a difference 🙂

No, I didn't do anything like that. I was really relaxed and spoke casually in my interview and i think that my interviewers picked up on that and felt that i was being genuine with my responses (which i was)

Is your interview for one of the latest April dates? or is it a week or so from the 3rd?

Has anybody heard of being accepted into the Bridge Program yet? Or a better question, does anybody know when FSU starts to notify applicants of being accepted into the Bridge Program?

That usually comes pretty late in the cycle.

To those accepted, Join the C/O 2016 facebook page, meet the new classmates, have questions to ask current student? and check out all the apartment ads (us current M1 and M2) are pushing!! 😀

Anybody know if interview invites are still be offered? Thanks.

I called today. There are still 6 more interview dates. Two of which I know are the 13th and 16th, which invites have already been sent for. That leaves a maximum of 4 more dates that slots are still available for interview. I would bet that there are probably more like 2 interview dates left for invites.

Good luck everyone!

Also called today and the class is filled. They are interviewing in for movement purposes.

My interview is on the 16th, and another person I know is on the 13th. All dates for Monday 4/9 were filled. I do not know if there are more interview dates after next Monday. I have hope for this cycle yet.

as if I wasn't bummed out before 🙁

I decided to pay this thread a visit to wish all those waiting for the call or email that will change [y]our lives good luck as tomorrow should have been an acceptance day...but looks like the class if full.

To those hoping and praying to get off the wait/hold list, like myself, I wish you good luck over the next few weeks:luck:
To those who have already been accepted to this wonderful, super awesome school of medicine congratulations 👍😍
To those who are considering giving up their spot to go to another school, please mention my name when you call or email to withdraw your application ;-) 😀

Not sure how true this is. They usually say they always have a spot or two open. I know I interviewed last year on the very last day and while I was wait-listed, one guy that had the same interview day as me was accepted outright and ended up attending this year. So you never know, if they really feel like you're a good fit there then they might hand out an outright acceptance, it's up to them.

Also, I might be giving up my spot very soon so I guess there's that. Good luck to all of you guys on the wait-list, I was there last year and it was rough.

and by late...are we talking about end of April or in May with a few days to get moved over and settled?

For Bridge do you have to be interviewed already for regular admissions or do they do interviews just for Bridge as well?

I am not 100% sure. The website is not completely clear on that.

From the website: Highly talented students from medically underrepresented rural and inner-city populations who did not gain direct admission to the medical school are invited to enroll in the program.

Several months ago I e-mailed FSU about the Bridge Program. I was told it was offered as an option
during the Med school interview. There is not a separate interview. You have to be invited to interview for the Medical school and at that point they ask if you are interested in doing the Bridge Program.

Any one in my shoe? Not received an interview nor a rejectection!! Would love to attend FSU!!

YES !!! No interview No rejection. I find this whole process annoying. I think they already know who they are going to interview so why not just send out the rejection letters so people can plan for next cycle.

An interview at FSU would be fantastic.

When I talked to admissions this year, they said that students were selected from the pool of applicants whose scores and academics may be weaker than some of their peers but show great potential to fulfill FSU's mission statement. They are looking for students from rural or highly urban areas. I have never heard from any of the admissions people that they ask you at the interview if you want to be considered for the Bridge program. They select students who they don't think are quite ready for med school and put them in the Bridge program. But they wait until the very end just in case a spot opens for you in the actual med program.

I'm in the same boat... No interview & no rejection. Hopefully we will get something in the next week. I would love to do the bridge program!

I understand how difficult this process is for applicants, I went through it all myself. Teetering on the edge of, sometimes, madness it seemed for months and months of tortuous waiting. However, while I sympathize with your plight, I urge you to please heed my advice laid out on page 15 of this thread. If you are not currently holding at least one acceptance to a school you are strongly considering attending and are waiting on FSU as your last chance, it is time to start planning for the future. It is fine to hope for the best, but always, always plan for the worst.

Awesome! Thanks for your help! I saw you on last year's thread too. Are you a FSU student now?
As far as validation goes, when I "submit to AMCAS" I know it wanted me to choose my med schools that I want to apply to. Does this have to be decided and paid before I can validate? I cannot find this info anywhere. Thanks again!
You can do it either way. You can put the schools when you submit your AMCAS or you can wait until it is validated. You can submit the schools one at a time if you want to. It only takes a day or two to get the secondary.
BTW there is no MCAT exam on August 6 2012.
I am the parent of an applicant and I wish to give you some advice. Get your letters lined up and make sure they are submitted. He will be trying for the 3rd time and the prior times letters have been a problem.

I'll be at the open house. I've been driving around Tally looking for housing and found The Lakes. This set of condos is very close to campus. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about The Lakes?

I released my seat today. The OOS tuition was just too much of a financial burden, even with my scholarship. It would not have been a fiscally responsible decision, despite how much I loved this school.

I know it is a bummer, but if you have other cheaper options, it is the responsible thing to do. They often do offer more money after first year to help out, but that is not something I would expect to happen either.

Out of curiosity, how did you find out about your scholarship award? I thought the window to apply for scholarships doesn't even open until May. Is it different for out of state students? Did I miss some email about how to apply/when to apply for scholarships??

There are scholarships you apply to and then awards offered by the school to try and reduce the cost for OOS students ( and instate that meet certain criteria).

This.

I was offered a tuition waiver for 50% of the IS-OOS difference

Are you positive on that about the committee sometimes placing a bridge student in the medical school class in the event a spot opens up? Do we find out about bridge acceptance middle of may or end of may?

Yes I am positive. I have talked with some admissions people on the matter. That's why Bridge acceptances are the last ones. And I am not sure of when notification will occur...it could happen in the middle to end of May. Are you from a rural area?

The general trend is to put people in bridge that meet the qualifications and are just a hair under normal admission criteria. I'm sure there were some that we're admitted off one to the other, but the point is to prove you are ready for med school academically.

I really wouldnt consider Sarasota/Bradenton rural per say but a 20 min drive east could change the perspective i.e. myakka and arcadia which are super rural

Just look at how it's defined on the first and second pages of your AMCAS if you want to check if you're rural or underserved. 🙂

Does FSU award any other type of scholarships?

Yep. I asked the financial aid office about them recently, and they said we will get a username/password during orientation to access a site on which scholarship applications will be located. If I remember correctly, there are merit-based, mission-based, and need-based scholarships available.

Interview tomorrow morning!!! Admissions said they have more than 10 seats still open!!

There is little benefit from asking a person's stats. Everybody is different and you will drive yourself crazy before getting insight into their decisions. I am still baffled why I, an upper middle class white kid with below average stats, got accepted.

I am just curious if they are still interviewing applicants with fantastic stats or if they are considering lower middle class white kids with less then stellar stats.

I wish Dr2B2016 the best

Does anyone know a clear date on when we should be notified about bridge acceptances? They say the end of May but I've been told by current students they get notice about acceptance into the program about mid-May.
