NP Acceptance - received email at 5:53 (EST) PM.
 
I interviewed in October, and one of my interviewers told me he thought I was going to get in, but no email for me... I'm starting to resent him.
 
any current HMS students here (NP) whom i can PM some questions? thanks!

Sorry to hear that your interviewers conveyed an impression that didn't play out. Super disappointing, I'm sure! I didn't receive an email tonight either. Congrats to those who did, particularly if this was your first choice! Ultimately, though, as several other people mentioned, I think a lot of people waiting on these decisions already have great offers, so really congrats to everyone.

To the rest of us: Don't let rejections control your life. To allow other people's assessment of you to determine your own self-assessment is a very big mistake.

Maybe I might not have as many opportunities at other schools, but darn, I know I'll be a great doctor in the end. And I'll be on TV someday too just like Jeremy Lin =D

That's what matters, TV exposure. Maybe you should go to Columbia, I heard Dr. Oz is there and you could be his understudy :laugh:

Wonder when the waitlist and rejection emails will be coming?

Feel like I shouldn't get too down about not getting the NP email given that I've gotten into a few other schools that I'm very happy about and that I was somewhat surprised to get an interview in the first place. But even though my stats were a bit borderline for HMS (not bad, but probably around the 25th percentile) once I got the II I was actually fairly confident cause I have some interesting and unique experiences and I think I interview pretty well. Then again Harvard was my first interview so I may have been a bit more nervous than I realized and didn't totally hit my stride in interviews til some of my subsequent ones. Perhaps the gods are punishing me for my hubris of spending some time this past weekend thinking about what I would do to celebrate an acceptance 🙂

Oh well, hardly the end of the world for me and maybe if I end up waitlisted I could find my way in with a strong update letter and a bit of luck, but still hard to say I'm not a little bummed out. I suppose one silver lining is that as someone who's spent most of their life in Boston, a change of scenery might be a good thing.

Canadian here.... Did not get an email yesterday for NP so I was pretty bummed yesterday 🙁

Nevertheless, it was my first interview and, as I became more seasoned after attending other interviews, I realized how many stupid things I have said here that made a rejection very justifiable.

I am very honoured for the opportunity to be invited in the first place (never expected this invite...). Harvard, you and I were never meant to be I guess haha.

Omg I really hope I get rejected instead of waitlisted.

Because then I can plan out things better, instead of holding on to a slim chance of hope.

👍 i hate waitlists too...it's hard to move on with waitlists....
 
How active is Harvard's waitlist? Does anybody know how many people they typically take off the waitlist each year?

There's a part of me that just wants the stress of waiting to be over, but then there's a bigger part of me that really wants to get into HMS. So while I hear what you're saying, I'll be happy if I still have a shot (though obviously not nearly as happy as I would've been had I gotten an email yesterday.)

I think the difference about my situation is:

My bf got into Harvard PhD....and we're trying to stay together for grad school. He has to make a decision THIS month.

Waitlists, especially for schools like Harvard, probably won't move as much as others. And if I got out of the waitlist, and if my bf already declined his offer at Harvard..... yeah.

I would rather get that rejection. Hahahaha.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that usually 70% of people who receive acceptances from HMS decide to matriculate. 30% of 165 is around 50 people who get a chance off the waitlist.

According to previous threads, I think 50 people are placed on the NP waitlist and 30 people are placed on the HST waitlist.

Yes. But isn't that assuming that they accept only the number of people that makeup their entering class. Most schools accept more than their entering class initially.

Yep, thats right. When I interviewed, I seem to recall them saying that they take about 225 people for their class. If thats the case and 70% matriculate, then that means that 5-10 people will get in off the waitlist, which seems about right for a school like HMS.

There's a part of me that's still keeping hope alive that maybe I was accepted and somehow my email slipped through the cracks - silly I know, but what the heck? May as well try to maintain hope until I get an email telling me otherwise.

Don't worry. That thought came through my mind toooooo. I was checking my spam like 5 times. Haha.

And also my work email....even though I didn't put my work email in my application. Sighh.
The med school process makes one cray cray.

No such email for me....looks like the dream is officially over. Probably shouldn't have let myself get my hopes up too high, but it was tough to keep myself from doing that. Oh well, I've gotten into plenty of good schools, so there's no need to be too upset, but its definitely a disappointment.

Guessing the rejection letters will hit us this evening.

Word. It's been a blessing to get so far in this little process, and I'm grateful that things are coming to a close and I'll be able to (start figuring out how to) take the next step. Congratulations to everyone accepted or not - see you down the road in medicine! 👍

They probably know that all of us who had the pleasure and honour to interview at Harvard have great acceptances elsewhere. Some of the post-interview rejects might even be Nobel winners or big names in medicine in the future. As a result, there is no point to be blunt and direct with the post-interview rejections.

Oh well Harvard, it was a fun ride while it lasted. Thank you for the opportunity and maybe I, along with every post-interview rejects here, will have the honour to work here for residency 🙂

First post-interview rejection for me. Doesn't sting quite as much as I thought it would, all things considered. I like that the letter says "perhaps we will have the opportunity to work with you here as a resident or a fellow." Reminder that this is just one step in a long journey. Good luck everyone!

i'm a harvard reject as well, but it doesn't hurt that much 🙂
congrats to those who got accepted/waitlisted, you are all quite an impressive bunch and I hope to work with some of you over these next 2394839274 years of medical training.👍
 
REJECTED!!! Doesn't feel that bad, could see it coming.
 
Rejected today, too! Well, that puts an effective end to the application season for me. The past few months have been full of a great surprises, interviewing here being only one of them. Really excited that we're all going to be able to call each other colleagues someday soon.

I'm a Harvard reject as well...seems oxymoronic doesn't it?...that's how I'll take it!
 
Rejected today as well.

Anyone want to trade a Harvard acceptance for a UCSF acceptance plus a USMLE course and some draft picks?
