people say a lot of ridiculous things about this school. 🙄 i'd really like to point out that the website has just about all the information you are looking for regarding things like this. EVERYONE should make use of it, so you don't walk in unprepared for your visits and interviews. ^_^

yeah about that...we had an exam the next monday, so a bunch of people may have hit up one event for a couple hours and then got back to work. of course you have superstars who are always ready for exams so they had quite a bit more fun. went to yardfest, had some food. went to the parade for a half hour, saw tyson beckford 🙂love🙂 then was on the grind the rest of the weekend.

Very well said sweetness34, OBEAHDOCTOR, and Luvdr. I have also been praying daily for a Howard II since this application cycle started. I hope all of us get good news soon! God willing it will all work out for the best for everyone.
 
Hello everyone!

So my AMCAS was verified in early October, and I designed Howard as one of the schools I wanted to apply to. However, a month later, Howard is the only school that I haven't received a secondary from. Should I just assume that by this point that I was screened out?

Just called and they said they would be sending out a new batch of secondaries today. Whew, thought I was getting too neurotic there for a second. lol Thanks for the reply!!

Chezza I got verified on 09/23 and still waiting on the II. I just made use of the time to work on my II essays so when I do get it I can put that badboy in the mail.

That's a good point... earlier in this thread I saw that someone had posted last year's secondary questions. Do you by any chance know if they are the same ones for this year? These were the questions that were posted, btw:

1. I have lived (for three years or more) in communities which are medically underserved, or where the majority of the population is economically and/or educationally disadvantaged. Yes: No:

2. After residency, I plan to practice medicine in an underserved or disadvantaged community. Yes: No:

When you mean interview confirmation date, did you get an interview invite today? Can you also share when you were complete? That is nice to know that you have an interview and good luck!

For those of you with interview invites, I was wondering approximately how long it took to receive the invite after the complete e-mail.

Congrats on the interview!

I was complete on Oct 14th. Does that mean I was passed up on an interview offer? Kinda sucks but I dont wanna get my hopes up if I was :/

That is something to think about.
 
I am sure you weren't. I was marked complete August 19th 2011. That's over two months now. I called yesterday to check on my status and this is what the lady told me. She took my last name and social, then she said that the school was interviewing the more competitive applicants now. She said i shouldn't expect any news till after December and that is if i get any news at all. Hopefully you hear some good news.

Most likely the more competitive applicants per MCAT score.

Well, I hope we could be those competitive applicants. I really like this school and would be great to be able to attend Howard. I was complete towards the end of October. Pray for me guys.... I need those prayers!!

How long did they take for you to get the complete email compared to when you mailed out your secondary? (giving time for mail delivery of course) Thanks!

Mailed 10/14 (overnight from NJ)
Received 10/15 (confirmed by USPS)
Complete email 11/1

Atleast she was honest. But no news until after December? thats a looong wait. From what she said it doesnt sound too good for me.

Has anyone so far taken a month or so to get an interview invite? or have they all been sent out within a week or so after your completion notice?
 
I got an email from them in October asking to explain some grades (drops) on my transcript from when I was in law school.

🙁 .. hopefully we hear well. I don't know if this is the way it is so, let's say if an applicant is complete, and within two weeks they probably don't hear back or get an interview date, that probably is not a good sign, right? hopefully we will be able to see what happens in the coming days/weeks. i think they interview about 300 people, and hopefully we could be amongst those people

Interview invites are not based solely off of when your application was submitted and completed. They also take into consideration your MCAT score and GPA. for instance, If you had a 30 MCAT and 3.5 GPA and submitted you final application Nov 3rd but Guy B had a 27 MCAT and a 3.8 GPA submitted their application in Sept. There is still a chance that you may go first since your overall application is more competitive.

My numbers were VERY close to Guy B and I was offered an interview for Jan 11th and I completed my application on Oct 4th. But if you ask me, it doesnt matter when you interview, as long as the end results are that you are still accepted 🙂.... Good luck MDPhD

You weren't passed up. Howard doesn't interview in the order of the application. They review them in the order that they were received but they may feel as though you may be better suited for a later interview. Which was my case... I just said this but it does not matter when the interview comes as longs as you get one and the end result is an acceptance letter 🙂

Hey Sweetness34,
Stay positive!!! The application process is a marathon, not a sprint (no matter how much we may all want it to be a 40m dash lol). Just stay positive and focused on the big pic (acceptance). Last year I was in your shoes and it did not feel good to be waiting to see which schools were going to give me a chance but with time, patience, and a lot of prayer I was able to get a few acceptances with a less than stellar MCAT and great GPA. If I can get of any assistance, please dont hesitate to PM me.

Same here. I was verified on the 17th of October (I think) still haven't gotten the secondary 🙁. Maybe I should call and ask them? What do you all think?

I'm alllll the way in Arizona...a long ways away. Im moving to DC in a couple of months to start an internship though. Howard would be perfect cuz its one of the only places where I actually have family outside of AZ. I heard the city is amazing!

Just to clarify, its about a 30 minute drive from DC to Baltimore (without traffic) and you can take the Marc or Amtrak but it isnt so close that you can live there and attend HUCM and not have issues getting to and from school. Best bet stick to DC, or Hyattsville, Silver Spring and MAYBE Northern VA (Arlington, Alexandria) and some other parts of Maryland. Late night studying on campus and living in Baltimore will be a problem.
