My pleasure, thanks for visiting 😀

You are welcome! Now, I get to experience your future campus in a few weeks 🙂. I received an II today :luck:

Could you recommend a place to stay?

Anybody else interviewing on December 5th?

The application for this school is sorta weird. I completed secondaries 10/25 but TWO entire weeks later, I got info saying "NOW you are complete." I hope a lot of people didn't jump in line ahead of me.

Rest assured, it just takes them a while to organize the materials and send out a letter of confirmation.

Hey everyone, I know its been a while since I posted anything. I just wanted to take the time out to encourage some of you who are on this journey with me as well. I too have been waiting for interviews and it just seemed like everyday was getting more and more discouraging. But through it all I knew that God had a plann and I knew that if it was his will for me to get into medical school it would happen. Even if you applied to fifteen schools and get rejected to fourteen. Just remember all you need is one yes. I wrote something not too long ago and I wanted to share it with you guys who are still waiting as a means of encouragement. After several months of waiting God has opened the door and I was invited for an interview January 30. So there is still hope folks. Just keep trusting him. He did not bring us this far to leave us. Here is the devotion. Hope it is a blessing. Also, keep me in prayer as I will do the same for you!

Never think that God's delays are God's denials. Hold on; hold fast; hold out. Patience is genius-Georges-Louis Leclerc

There comes a time during everyone's Christian walk when you start to feel tired and weary. Everything around you seems to be going totally opposite from the way you thought it would. You begin to feel like God is not listening to your prayers. You make your requests known to God but it feels like everyone around you is being blessed but you. You ask God for a companion, but your friend gets engaged. You ask God for a job, but your friend gets promoted. You ask God for help into graduate school school, but your friend gets accepted to several schools and now has to decide which one to go to. At that point, you begin to ask God, "Lord what am I doing wrong? Am I missing something. I feel like you are blessing everyone else but me. At this point God, I feel like I am going to throw in the towel." My dear friends, I want to encourage you today by reminding you that God is always on time. There is a lesson that God is trying to teach you and without this process you just might miss it. You need this season more than this season needs you. The Lord is saying to someone today that your due season is soon at hand. Tie that knot just a little tighter and keep holding on. I'm getting ready to bless you like I have never blessed you before. But before I do, I need you to stay in the fire just a little longer. I need you to be refined and come out as pure gold.

It is during these times when God wants us to depend on him the most that we depend on him the least. We run to everyone and everything else but him. I'm encouraging you to TRUST in him alone. The same promise that he gave to Paul is the same promise he is giving you:"My grace s sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness (2Chorinthians 12:9)" So my dear friends, when you get the urge to give up, press on a little further. When you feel like this race is too hard to endure remember "The race is not given to the swift nor strong; victory belongs to those who keep on keeping on."

I leave you with this folks, God is not a man that he should ever lie. You may not understand what he is doing. Things may make no sense at all, Trust him anyway. He knows the beginning and the end. He is the God who holds your future. He is the same God today, yesterday and forever more. His promises will never go void. So today, instead of drowning in your despair, tell God "Lord I will not let go until you bless me."

Power Verses:

Psalm 16:5- Lord you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.

Psalm 142:3- When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way

Prayer of the day: Dear heavenly father, you bless those who praise your name and delight in your commands. Lord in the midst of the turmoil, I will not be shaken for my heart remains steadfast trusting in you and your overall plan for my life. I want to remain firmly grounded as I overcome the daily obstacles common to all. Help me to learn the valuable lessons along the way as I press on toward the goal for which you have called me heavenward. In Jesus name, Amen

I support and respect each and every one of you, whether you follow the teachings of Mohammad, Christ, Buddha, or any other deity or alternative theology. We’re clearly all in this together. This thread has been one of the most supportive. But as an agnostic, I have to wonder after seeing so many devoted Christians on this thread and nowhere else: Why has Christianity been so uniquely pervasive on this thread?

I'm not looking for a lecture, proselytizing post, or denunciation; I'm just genuinely curious. Does Meharry lean toward Christianity? I don’t see it in the Meharry Medical College’s Mission statement… Anyway, just thought I'd ask as we all wait and look toward our beliefs to get us through. I wish each one of you the best of luck. I wish we could all attend.

If you go to Meharry's website, and look hard enough, you will find that they have something on there that says "Worship of God Through service to Mankind". Meharry is also affiliated with the United Methodist Church. I am sure not everyone who goes there is Christian, but the school probably attracts more of us. Secondly. I think people feel safe on this thread to openly talk about religion. I am sure it's not the same on other threads. Hope this answers your question.

Aha! Yes, it sure does; thank you. Good luck.

just got wait-listed.. does anyone know the odds of me getting in off the wait-list? Should i send a LOI? if so to who? Ms. Johnson? 🙁 worst day ever!

Honestly the wait list experience from last year was a heartwrenching ride. I figured out later on they have a high priority wait list. Not sure when or how they differentiate between who is on what list...If anyone knows help us out! 🙂

That was powerful Vessel of Honor!!! Thanks a whole lot! lol 😀😀😀

Hello!
I have an interview here in January. Can any of the med students currently attending Meharry elaborate on the curriculum as to whether it is systems based etc. ? Also how does a typical day for a first year look? Is it 8 am to 5 pm? Is there time during the day for studying? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Good afternoon my fellow medical school pursuants:
While looking through some of these forum connversations I realized that some people can be very discouraging. They tell you that based on you score you are not cut out for medical school. They tell you that you should probably consider going into another field or reapply. My dear friends the one thing that I have learned through this journey is that God always has the final say. Yes you may not have the best scores but is there anything too hard for God? He has the power to open doors that no man can open and close doors that no man can re-open. Folks God doesn't work in the way that we think he does. Don't ever bring him to our level because his thoughts are not our thoughts neither is his ways our ways. I say this because I want to encourage you to keep trusting him throughout every single step of the journey. He is a God of miracles and there is nothing that is too hard for him. People will say that you are not cut out but you respond by saying "I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me" There is power in the tongue folks. You may not have gotten an interview but in JESUS name you will soon. God knows exactly what school he wants you in and why he wants you there. Have faith folks. The fact that you are even going through this process means that you have what it takes. Instead of having a pity party let us pray the words of Jacob today: "Lord I will not let go until you bless me"

Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope

Proverbs 3:5-Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, Acknowledge him in all your ways and he shall direct your paths

In addition, if anyone is in need of prayer or wants to talk to me personally you can always PM me. We need each other through all of this. Once again keep me in prayer folks as I will do the same for you.

Vessel of honor, I want to thank you for your encouraging words on here. I believe it and I receive it!

Does Meharry pre-screen its applicants?
I've only gotten and email from them telling me that my application was received from AMCAS and that the secondary will be sent to me sometime soon...but that was a while ago

From what I understand. Yes, they prescreen.

Hey guys, I just wanted to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving and to let you guys know that there is still time. Even if you have not received an interview yet, there is still time. I interviewed with the first group on 10/10/11 and received an acceptance on 11/1/11. Mr Mosley said that there were about 100 to 110 spots. Not sure how many for post bac but im sure not that many. Dont give up hope. My prayers go out to you guys and just know that these people who talk bad about those with sub par stats are just scared that their over compensating stats might not get them in. Just ask God to open the door for you and let you in but if it doesn't happen just know that there is something better for you out there. If that means next year then you do what you have to do. If anyone needs anything just ask. Im here for your guys and for those that will be my future classmates the same applies when school starts. Happy holidays! 👍🙂

Accepted!!!!

Interviewed 11/7 and found out through snail-mail!

Any advice on interviewing at this school. I will be there on December 12th. Are there any questions that Meharry likes to ask it's interviewees?

It really depends on who your interviewer is. Mine hadmt reviewed my file so it was generic questions about my experiences and what I learned. Another person had an interviewer who had pulled their amcas apart and had a series of questions prepared.

and to add to what fam said, My interviewer just took a quick glance at my file which had all my amcas and secondary application in there. He then closed it and told me a little about himself. After that it was all me. He told me to tell him about myself and then i had to ask him questions upon questions about the school and other things. I enjoyed it though, plus he was pretty cool.

Faith isn't the ability to believe long and far into a misty future. It is simply taking God at his Word and taking the next step~ Toni Erickson Tada

Throughout many of my previous devotions, there has been a recurrent theme about trusting God. Having the opportunity to reflect over my past entries, I realized that it is impossible to expect anyone to trust God if they do not know how to do so. I mean even when people say to us "Trust me," we usually have two thoughts "Ok, I'll trust you," or "why should I?" And to be honest, the latter usually takes precedence. If that's the case with people, how could possibly trust someone we cannot see or feel? Well my dear loved ones, I have some news for you. In the case of God, when you begin to fully understand why you should trust him, actually doing so becomes instinctual. This morning I want to discuss with you some of the many reasons why you should trust God.

One of the main reasons why God should be trusted is because unlike us human beings, he is worthy of it. It's just that simple. God will never fail you or rescind on his promises. " God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and then not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19) Friends and family we serve a faithful God. There is nothing that he says he will do that he will not fulfill. God has the power to bring to pass what he sets out and plans to do. In Isaiah 14:24 we are reminded: "Surely as I have planned, so it will be, as I have purposed so it will stand. Folks, if we aspire to ever fully trust Him, we must be willing to get to know him, through his WORD. To know him is to TRUST him; to trust him is to LOVE him.

God is not going to tell us to trust him if he is not willing put out and show us why we should do so. God has proven in our lives and in the lives of others why he is worthy of our trust. Even if you are unwilling to trust him on the account of your life, trust him on the account of the testimony of someone else. In 1Kings 8:56 we read "Praise be to the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed for all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses." Folks if he could part the Red Sea, send food from the heavens above, and faithfully guide the Israelites out of Egypt into the promised land, what in your life is so hard that he cannot accomplish? Will you trust him?

I leave you with this folks: what other alternative do you have besides to just TRUST him? You have trusted yourself and others countless times and have come out empty handed time and time again. So why not try something new? The choice is ultimately yours. God is an all-wise, all-knowing, all powerful, gracious and loving father who has nothing but great intentions for you. Take a leap of faith today and get to know him. He has not made himself difficult to find or to know; everything you need to know about him is written in his Holy Word. Take a radical approach and I guarantee you will see him in a new and remarkable way. If he can do it for me, he can do it for you!

Prayer of the day: Dear heavenly father, thank you for the opportunity to get to know you in a new and radical way. Lord sometimes I just don't know how to trust you. Give me the strength to do so anyway. I may not know how you are going to work out my situation but I know that you will work it out ultimately for my good. Lord, continue to show yourself strong in every area of my life. My only desire is to serve you. Give me the courage to look past my fears and wholeheartedly follow you. In Jesus' name, AMEN!

Romans 8:28- And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose

Psalm 100:5- For the Lord is good and his love endures forever, his faith

I actually have a pointed question relating to this. Does the strong presence of Christianity at Meharry affect the attitude about homosexuality at Meharry? I've been relatively open at other schools, but I have no problem hiding it during my interviews or for the whole four years if I absolutely have to, though going to an accepting school is definitely important to me.

If anyone could shed light on this, I would be extremely appreciative. I'm not trying to pick apart the school; I'm just trying to figure out which of my options would be the best fit if I even get in at all. You're welcome to PM, but a public post would be really valuable since I'm certain that I'm not the only one who's wondering about this.

Thank you for the tips. I appreciate y'alls quick response to my question. I am very excited to visit Meharry

Greetings,
I got an email that I have been put on pre-interview hold 🙁.Anyone have any advice on what I can do?.Meharry is my top choice..Thanks

I'm sorry. I'm still waiting for a response. I was complete on the 25th of October. Keep your head up, God works in crazy ways.

I just spoke with Mrs.Davis and was made pretty fearful because Meharry has a "new" policy about students finishing pre-req's before applying rather than before matriculation. I am a 29 year old non-trad with 2 kids, finishing o-chem II now. I don't know what to think, just trusting in God and his provision.

Every evening I turn my worries over to God. He’s going to be up all night anyway~ Mary C. Crowley

“How are you?” That is usually the hot question of the day, right? Sometimes I just have those days where I have to muster all the energy within me to say “I am fine, and you?” A part of me cringes because truthfully I am not ok and don’t think I could possibly bear to hear the issues of someone else. But it is on those days God stretches me the most. Even in the midst of my despair, somehow a friend or loved one manages to call with an issue seeking my guidance; suddenly my issues seem insignificant. During those moments I look up to God and I say “Lord I am not sure I have it in me to give. I cannot take any more words into a soul cram-full. How can you expect me to pour out refreshment that is not there?” And then the Lord suddenly responds “whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25)

Folks, we all have those days. Days when you are feeling completely full and yet totally empty. But it is during those times God embraces you even tighter. He caresses you with his loving hands ever more gently. And then he asks the famous question, “How are you?” And then you say:

Lord I am weary. And he responds: “I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Lord I feel alone. And he responds “And surely I am with you always to the end of age.” (Matthew 28:20)

Lord I don’t think I can take anymore. And he responds: “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

The more you pour out, the more he pours into you. I leave you with this folks: when the world continually empties you out and never refills, the Lord will quench your every thirst. He will reach deep within you and fill every crack and crevice. Take his hand and walk with him. His refreshment awaits you; he is eagerly waiting to ask, “How are you?”

Prayer of the day: Dear heavenly father thank you for the assurance that even when the seasons change, you will forever remain the same. Thank you for always being there to listen and to comfort me. Lord even when I am far away from you, you are always there to embrace me into your tender loving care; I thank you. On your solid rock I will forever stand, for your love endures forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Power Verses:
Malachi 3:6- I am the Lord, and I do not change

John 15:15- I no longer call you slaves, because a master does not confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the father told me.

The one thing I can tell you is that God has a way of opening doors no man can open. This is the time to trust in him the most. If this is where he wants you to go to Meharry, nobody will be able to get in the way of that. I am not saying it will be easy; but what he ordains he will maintain. Trust him like you have never trusted him before. Man looks at your credentials, God looks at your heart,...I'll be keeping you and every other person on this application journey in prayer. Be encouraged and keep your head up

A person's sexuality does not affect his/her ability to be a good doctor, so I don't think you should worry about how that might come into play at any interview. I think you should always be yourself. However such private questions will not come up on interviews. It's neither legal to ask...and even more frowned up on to judge a person's character based on it.

If I've learned anything, it's that discrimination (edit) in these kinds of cases (/edit) is always subtle. The questions may not come up, but frankly, it's part of my candidacy that makes me a more unique applicant; it gives me empathy towards those in a similar situation who might feel judged by a heterosexual doctor. Some schools recognize this, others don't or don't care, and still others have doctors who will openly assert their sexuality (steering the conversation toward their wife and kids and such) because they're uncomfortable with the idea of interacting with someone who is openly homosexual. Many schools avoid having these kinds of doctors on their committees and interviewing applicants (think death-qualified juries. Similar idea. Only in this case, letting an openly gay person into your medical school is death.), but others don't.

It's not mentioned in my application (neither on my primary or on Meharry's secondary), so I guess my question can be revised to this: Would it be unwise at this school to bring it up? The only nondiscrimination mentioned at this school is by race and ethnicity, but nothing about sexual orientation is mentioned in any materials. Again, I'd LOVE to get a current student's thoughts on this. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I am a re-applicant. Interviewed there last year. Meharry seemed liked a family oriented and accepting school. I didn't get an overt sense that they would discriminate against a student who was openly gay.

I am not sure you should hide who you are. Think about, if you were to be admitted to Meharry and decided to go, I don't think you would enjoy the next 4 years of your life hiding your sexuality. Nor do you want to be at a school where you would feel uncomfortable about your sexuality.

If you do tell them and they discriminate against you during the interview then Meharry is just not the school for you.

Hope this helps...

I definitely would do that if I had an acceptance in hand. Unfortunately, I don't, so if Meharry does, in fact, discriminate, there's no way I'm going to be out at my interview. Maybe while I'm at the school, but by then, it will be too late for them to discriminate against me with regard to admission.

Super excited!!!!!!

I'm currently a fourth year student at Meharry. I'm not sure if I posted in this thread already or not. I can help with answering questions about the school and my experiences here. I am best reached by PM because I don't come to this section as often. I can repost messaged sent to me by PM here (unless they're personal).

For those already accepted and planning on matriculating, congrats and welcome to the family!😍

There are openly gay students at Meharry.. They are just as popular and included in school life. I haven't seen/heard them being discriminated against but I obviously cannot speak for them. I'm not sure if they made their sexuality a topic during their interviews.

Oh yipeee. I am so excited for you OBEAHDOCTOR. Awww, Congrats!!! When is your interview. Congrats to you too Britanny.
