I also got an interview invite yesterday! It was sent around 3:00p and I was complete on 8/1. Good luck to those still waiting to hear. This can be such a crazy-making process!

Has anyone with an invite looked into booking a hotel yet? I haven't had luck with finding a student host, so I tried calling the recommended hotels, and some of the rates that they have don't match the ones that Northwestern wrote for them. For example, Northwestern said the Crowne Plaza rate is $99 until November, but Crowne Plaza told me their best rate, with the Northwestern discount is $169.

Has anyone had success with this?

Woke up to an interview invite this morning!

Submitted secondary 8/22. Can't remember if I was complete same day or not.
 
Interview invite today! Complete around 8/21, 39M and a 3.8 GPA
 
ummm. extremely intimidated by the panel. it's like my nightmare. but here we gooooo!
 
So...I just turned in my secondary. I received it 7/28 and had a draft done 7/30. But I have just been too reluctant / stupid to submit since it's my dream medical school (I wouldn't even dare to call it a top choice). I finally did it though.

Does anyone know how aggressive FSM is about secondary applications compared to other schools? I know most of the top tier schools are fairly lax about when you turn them in compared to others with the notable exception of Michigan, but I was just wondering if it's "too late" for me. Oh well, better late than never, right?

Invite yesterday, complete 9/3. Going to interview on 10/21 if anyone else is going the same day.

Interviewed here yesterday. A very pleasant experience. 1 individual interview that was conversational. It was short (a little less than 20 minutes) and felt rushed. The panel interview was actually enjoyable. I had seen many of the questions before on the interview feedback page, and the interviewers were friendly.

The hospitals and campus are impressive. I had never been to Chicago before but I expected to be like New York. I was very wrong. It was cleaner and much more spread out. They brought us into a hospital room, which seemed like a strange choice (even though it was pretty nice).

If anyone is curious, I submitted and was complete by Aug 26. I see 6 dates open in Oct and then 3 more in early Nov; all MWF dates!
 
Interview invite today! Complete 8/30. ~3.8 GPA, 32 MCAT, so don't worry if you don't have ridiculously high stats. I really think they carefully consider all components of your application.
 
Anyone know what exactly is the panel interview? I somehow assumed that it was a panel of interviewers + 1 interviewee, but I got a sense that there are more like 3 interviewees. Any idea on the #'s? (roughly how many interviewers vs. interviewees)

Also, anyone know how to best prepare for an interview style like this? I know interviews are my weak point and I'm getting sorta nervous. I couldn't gather much info on how panel interviews with multiple interviewees go -- Is it a "sit in a circle and discuss" type thing (e.g. an ethical dilemma is presented and all the interviewers just jump in whenever to "discuss")?? Or is there a more direct flow? (e.g. interviewer asks a Q then every interviewee is given a turn answering)
 
Interview Invite on 9/30! Happiness!!!! 😀 Panel interview seems daunting, though... especially on Halloween! Should I go in costume? :laugh:

I also live abroad, and sent an email to all my schools once I received a Nov interview. They responded to say it would be added to my file on Sept 23rd and I received an invite Sept 27th.

Just a heads up, though, you're cutting it close the longer you wait. While most of my schools acknowledged my email, I currently only have 3 interviews - the one that prompted me to email schools, and the other 2 I received after. My trip home is in a bit less than a month right now and I still have 12 schools that haven't made a decision (making the length of my trip a mystery, which is a problem considering I only have so many days off of work and I'd like to keep it as short as possible given the number of interviews I have... but I don't want to plan it, and then get a few more interviews at the last minute and not have enough days in the states...)

sorry for rambling! life is just difficult right now 😀

long story short: email all your schools NOW. they will not magically read your email and respond 30 minutes later. they need time to review your app.

I am not sure how to best prepare for something like this as I haven't gone through it myself yet. However I have heard some descriptions of what the process is like.

There is a panel of 3 interviewers and 3 students in a room. It is closed file and at first they just basically cycle through the applicants asking them individual questions (maybe the same or different). At the end, they will give you some kind of group problem to solve (I have heard many different ones, check out the interview feedback forum) and you have 10 min or so to discuss your answer (they observe you during this) and then present your solution.
 
Mine this year was almost exactly as described above, except that we were allowed 45 minutes to complete the group problem. Gives you a chance to show your teamwork skills and my group members were awesome.

Yes, this is correct. The last 15 minutes were devoted to the group activity. There was supposed to be 3 interviewers on 3 interviewees, but my group only had 2 interviewers. I don't think there is really any good way to prepare for this. They just want to see how you work with other people. Just be modest, attentive to the other applicants, and friendly.
 
So let's talk logistics here,
What would be the most economic/convenient way of getting from O'Hare to a hotel on North Michigan Avenue? How much (ish) would a taxiing cost?

Probably 40-50, including tip. You can also take the subway if you're looking for something a lot cheaper, but it will probably take longer (unless the traffic is really bad).

The subway took me about an hour and 15 minutes. It's $2.25 though each way, so super cheap.

Hey,

I took a cab from O'Hare to the Northwestern area. It cost about 35 bucks, which isn't terrible. It's legit door to door service, so it saves you the hassle of trying a train system that you're not familiar with. Also, for my return trip to the airport, I was able to split a cab fare with another student heading to the airport, and it ran us about 18 bucks each, again not too bad. But then again 4.50 <<<<< 53, so it's your call.

If you're staying on north Michigan it's pretty easy to take the blue line from O'Hare straight into the loop and then walk to where you're going, or get on another line (I'm assuming you're around Michigan and Grand, given where the Northwestern campus is, so it would probably be red line) to get to the hotel. $5 at most one way. Cabs from O'Hare can be as much as $50 with tip.
