2011-2012 Psychology PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
School name - University of Wyoming

Program type/track - Clinical Psychology

Date received - 1/19

Interview dates offered - 2/26 - 2/28

Ah good to hear. I feel much more comfortable knowing that certain schools on the top of my list dont interfere with interviews ive already gotten.

You meant a choice of either the 10th or the 24th i take it, correct?

Anyone who's interested in University of South Florida:
After talking with my POI (yay!), admissions meeting will happen early/mid next week. Interview invites will follow shortly after. Dates of interview - 2/10 or 2/24.

FYI for those that were waiting...it's coming around the corner!

By the way, did anybody apply to UCSD/SDSU's JDP program? I was hoping to find out when their interview dates were...I know they were still reviewing applications last week, but I was just hoping to find out about the interview dates.

Congratulation on your invites to UNLV. Did you receive a mass email or an email directly from your POI?

I received a mass email from the director of the clinical program (with my name in it), not specifically from my POI.

Hey Guys,

Just got an interview call from Clark University.
Interview Days: Feb 15th and Feb 17th

I'm more than happy to answer any POI questions via PM.
Really excited.

Whoever posted that they heard from VCU on grad cafe would you mind PMing me your POI? Thank you and congrats!!!!

Awesome, thanks for sharing! That's really good to know. I haven't heard anything from/about UCSD/SDSU's JDP either... hmm.

To those who got invites to UNC Chapel Hill and Virginia Commonwealth please share with me your POI's and mode of communication? Would greatly appreciate it!

And just to be clear, since I'm getting a lot of PM's about it, the phone call was from my POI.
Good luck to everyone applying and if you get an interview at Clark too, let me know.

To whomever received an invite from Virginia Commonwealth, would you also mind PMing me your POI? Thank you!

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and I apologize in advance if this question is redundant but I could not find the answer to it on any of the pages. If someone posts that they've received a phone call from a professor of interest, does that usually indicate that if you replied to the same school you would have received a phone call that day as well? Would the chances of this being true be higher for mass email interview invites? Thank you in advance!

Lauri

Hi Lauri,

Judging from previous years and I think this year especially, POIs are calling applicants on their own schedule. One POI might call all their applicants over a couple of days but another POI might notify later. I had a school notify people a week before they called me! You really never know so don't cross schools off just yet.

Mass emails might be another story. The department might send the email to ALL the applicants or the POI could do things on their own time.

Point being, don't lose hope if you haven't received an invite. It might be on its way!

I've heard from two PsyD programs that I applied to:

Antioch NE Clinical PsyD (early consideration)
Notified: 12/14/11 by email from Assistant Director of Admissions
Interview date: 1/21/12

MSPP Clinical Psyd (early consideration)
notified: 12/20/11 by email to check online status
Interview date: 1/28/12

Just wondering if anyone heard from the person who got an invite at UNC...if so could I get a PM about who the POI is? Thanks so much 🙂

Got the call from UNC!

Got a call from UCLA for an interview invite an hour ago.
I let it go straight to voicemail, and unfortunately the phone connection was bad so I could not make out the name of who was calling (definitely was not either of my POI though).

Interview dates are 2/8-10, and said it was important to attend at least two of the dates.

Good luck everyone!

Er, not trying to be argumentative, just want to make sure you understood my point- It's not just that it won't change the process for the better, because believe me, they know that you really want to go there if you spent all the time and money to apply. But I think it may actually annoy them that you aren't willing to follow the formal procedure that they have set up. Will that get you crossed off an invite list that you were already on? No. But what if you were on the fence, or if you missed the first round of interviews but were still under consideration for a second round? Any little thing could make a difference.

Of course, I'm sure individual POI's vary a lot on their feelings about this. There are probably some that would love to hear from you, so if you get that vibe from your POI then don't listen to me.

But I just hope that everyone remembers that classic delayed gratification study: The little children that can wait for the marshmallow end up being more successful in life! Professors know this; what kind of message do you want to send to them?

Let me add some more info that may be helpful. Some of the dates for my invites I received overlap with this prof's interview date. I like both programs and if I got an invite from his well, I'd attend his interview in person. The admissions staff doesn't have have a clue as POIs seem to extend their invites personally, and I'd like to make travel plans rather sooner than later.
I also have been in contact with him back in the Fall about my application and he liked my CV (whatever that may mean) and I spoke to him at a recent conference (who knows if he remembers me), but it's not like I am emailing out of the blue.

If anyone is willing to claim the TGC post about the phone pre-interview from UT Austin, I would be so grateful for information on who your POI is!

Congrats to everyone who got invites today, seems there were a lot!!

Oh ok. It definitely makes sense to email if you have to make a decision about overlapping dates.

University of Utah, School Psychology PhD
Mass email from department
February 13th

(I may or may not be the only person who cares about school psych interviews, but it's fun to contribute.)

There have been A LOT of posts on TGC lately, but it doesn't overlap a lot here. I saw invites to Kent State and Washington in St. Louis and I'd love a PM about POI at either/both. Anyone?

Interview invite to Virginia Commonwealth University, Clinical Psychology Program, Child focus.
Grad student called to offer interview either 2/3 or 2/24.
No phone pre-interview or any other warning.
Exciting! Good luck, all! 🙂

University of Vermont - interview following 2 phone pre-interviews
email from director of admissions
interview on 2/10

Virginia Commonwealth University
Email from graduate student - no pre-interview required
Interview dates either 2/3 or 2/24 ... I am attending 2/3

Received a mass email from University of Southern California (USC: PhD in Clinical Sciences) yesterday (12/16) from POI. In-person interview 1/13 🙂
Funny- same interview date as last year but the email was sent out 3 days earlier.

Hey, does anyone have any more information on USC? It seems like there was an interview on 1/13 but it also seemed like maybe there was more than one interview weekend and invitations are sent out gradually.

For anyone who interviewed there, do you know if there is another weekend? Or does anyone know if more invites may go out?

Thanks!!

Invite from Simon Fraser via email to interview for Clinical Psych Masters (required to apply to MA program if you don't have a masters, then apply internally to Ph.D. once you complete Masters)

No prior phone contact from department

I still wouldn't do it. I think overlapping interview dates happen and there is definitely a risk to accepting one before hearing about another. However, if I were in your shoes I would want those positive interactions and any favorable impressions he/she has of me to sit and stew in his mind for as long as possible. Emailing him at this stage could really tick him/her off. Professors are inundated with things that take up their time and delay them working on their research or preferred vocational pass-time. Students emailing about nothing more than logistical/scheduling/interview date stuff could get tiresome for them.

Just my thoughts.

Washington State University (Clinical PhD) is up on TGC. If you recieved the invite would you be willing to PM me info? Thanks!!

Pretty sure it's a choice. I think the POI presented it as a choice, but they haven't extended interview invites yet so we'll see what the final structure is!

Good luck!

I spoke to my POI at Utah (Clinical Psych PhD) and was extended a formal interview offer. Looks like they already had the grad committee meeting and the interview weekend will be scheduled for 2/24, for anyone else that's wondering.

Good luck to all! 🙂

If the person who posted the American University invite on TGC is on this forum and could provide details it would be greatly appreciated!

Was it from a POI or an admissions director/secretary?

Thanks!!
