2011 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ok, this whole "tracking possible interview dates on a calendar" thing is WAY stressful!... Half my sites are entirely too vague, and the rest totally conflict!! I really wish I knew which sites will offer and which wont, but there's no way to know. :scared:

Also... Is it terrible to request a date other than those listed if you are going to be in the area at that time?? for example, I will be in California and available to interview December 17... however, my site's dates dont begin until December 21. I'd really like to be able to go to the interview while I'm in state, but also don't want to get crossed off of lists for being demanding. Thoughts? 😱

This is assuming I get interviews...

I haven't... still waiting to hear about the neuropsych/peds consult track. What track are you waiting to hear from?

Child and family therapy full year (though it seems someone else has heard about this track) and CFT/Neuropsych

the los angeles ambulatory care center sent out a generic email asking you to rank interview dates at 5pm (california time) yesterday.

I decided that i'm only checking email in the morning and at the end of the day. I am wasting way too much time waiting to hear from places and got no work done yesterday. Sites can wait till the end of the day to hear from me and nothing will happen.

Brown should be added to the list as they sent offers yesterday. Also, it seems the person who posted about getting an interview at Rochester did NOT get offers for all three tracks, but got a generic email listing all of the track names.

I don't think it's terrible at all. Most sites seem to be very understanding of conflicts/costs associated with the interview mess. That being said, I'd suggest also making it clear that if they're unable to accommodate the 12/17 date, you'd be willing to come out during their regular dates. Can't imagine them thinking you're being demanding then. 🙂

Fingers crossed on you getting those interviews!! :xf:

Has anyone else not heard anything from Kennedy Krieger?

I haven't... still waiting to hear about the neuropsych/peds consult track. What track are you waiting to hear from?

Hey guys, I have heard from the Peds/Neuro and I think someone else has heard from the CFT/Neuro. The emails they sent out via email were not personalized and I think were group emails to the interview applicants for those specific tracks. I haven't heard of anyone receiving rejection notifications yet. I'm sorry, I wish I had more positive news but I hope this helps.

Just got an interview offer from A.I. Dupont via email. Seemed to be a mass email.

Good luck!! Fingers crossed for those waiting!:xf::xf:

Just got a rejection from Virginia Commonwealth University. boo for rejections. Don't feel too sad for me though, as I am 2 for 3 of interviews. Still ahead of the curve!

Good luck to all of you who hear from places today!

Does anyone think it's a bad idea to attend an open house before having a phone interview?

The counseling center? You're not missing out on anything special. 😉

Yeah, I've heard that VCU hasn't really offered a quality internship in a while which makes me worry a little about VTCC, which is affiliated with them (though I haven't heard anything about an interview yet).

VTCC is minimally affiliated with VCU and does have a good program that I've heard. It has changed over the past few years and I think they lost one of their best training directors but overall is still a good site.

Thanks. That's helpful to know!

Let's wait until after the interview to duke it out!!! I look forward to figuring out who u are during the orientation 😛

I just got this image of you guys meeting and introducing yourselves as "Hi, I'm Gangreen" "Hi, I'm ThisIsCrazy" and then the TD overhearing this all and being verrry confused! Ha!

Congrats to both of you!

Thanks. That's helpful to know!

I'm actually excited about the opportunity at Virginia Tech, as they have taken one student from my program for the last two years. I have heard only good things from those interns (although they say VTCC works you pretty hard). At least its comforting to know that the place that rejected me isn't all that good anyway. Who needs 'em?!

If we both get the 10th I'll send you the link to my blog so we don't have to do that whole creepy staring at people trying to figure it out kinda thing. :ninja:😏

I was hoping that was the attitude you were going to adopt!

I've already had that creepy experience; someone from my school i think is sending me private messages. I've been getting wierd ones on here from people who dont ever post and who mysteriously know where I live lol.

rejection from Brown Behavioral Medicine track..no suprise there!

Oh, and thanks to everyone for the advice on attending or missing the open house. I decided that I better attend it. I had to cancel another interview, which was really upsetting. I had 5 to begin with, so not exactly a position to start declining interviews! ARggggg frustration and anxiety....

Just wondering if anyone has heard from or have any idea when we might expect to hear from:
- University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antionio
- Texas Children's
- Tulane
- Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center

I know invites have gone out for University Texas Health Sciences Center

Confused. A little while back it seemed like the VA Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center sent out rejections (there was a post a few days/pages ago indicating as much). And then today someone posted about interviews.

I have neither been rejected nor invited. Any thoughts?

I'm in the same boat and I have to say it is KILLING me! It's a bad idea to try to analyze the process, so I keep trying to tell myself that at this point, it is just a good thing that we have not gotten a rejection. If they really didn't want us, we would have been in that first batch. I'm kind of thinking maybe they either haven't gotten through all the applications that made it through the initial cut but started sending interviews for those they had decided on, or perhaps we are their "safeties" and will fill in if/when ppl turn down interviews. Or, I'm local, so maybe they are giving long-distance interviewees their invites first. Who knows! That's where my head is but I'm trying hard to remember there is often no rhyme or reason at all to when you hear from a site, either way. Also trying to remember that until we get a rejection, it's a GOOD thing. Easier said than done

Perhaps they are doing rolling invitations? Or perhaps they immediately eliminated people who didn't meet certain criteria (hours, etc) and then immediately offered interviews to people on the basis of some criteria, but then had to go through a large stack of maybe/possibly candidates?

Anyone recieved rejections or offers from the VA portion (HTVMH) of the MO consortium?

Just offered an interview at Western Psych!

Somebody once told me that thats a place where if you pull in an R-O1 for 1.5 million, your divison head comes up to you, pats you on the back, and asks you why it wasnt for 2.5 million...? 😉

Woohoo!! Just got an interview to Loma Linda VA (aka Jerry L Pettis VA). Came in a form email, no personalization. Dates are Tuesday December 14th or Tuesday January 11th.

I applied to several of those sites (Village, Lukes/Roosevelt child, Astor, Andrus) and haven't heard anything either. However, I believe others have posted on here that Bellevue child tract has sent out letters of invite several weeks ago (so I am still hopeful, but expecting a rejection on that one).

I have heard from Columbia child track but im pretty sure its rolling interviews. I havent heard anything from andrus, astor, or bellevue either.

UT HSC apps deadline was December 1. i sent mine in during the first week of November, and received an interview invitation a week later (obviously several weeks before apps were even due). So they operate with rolling offers there, it seems....

Just wondering if anyone has heard from or have any idea when we might expect to hear from:
- University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antionio
- Texas Children's
- Tulane

I'm also waiting to hear from St. Luke's and Andrus. Bellevue child track has at least some interviews next week, but maybe they're not done with invitations if rejections haven't been sent out yet?

Has anyone heard from UCSD VA child track?
How about UMDNJ child track?

Anyone recieved rejections or offers from the VA portion (HTVMH) of the MO consortium?

I've only heard of one person getting an interview there so far. I'm waiting to hear from them too. Fingers crossed!:xf:
