Haven't seen a thread like this for those of us taking the beast this year so I thought I'd make one. When's everyone taking it? I'm taking it May 24th so I now have just over 60 days until I take it.

What materials are being used? I'm using FA, Goljan, BRS Phys, and Savarese along w/ Kaplan COMLEX and USMLE Qbanks (provided by school), USMLEWorld, and COMBANK.

Anyone taking USMLE too? I'm undecided since I'm military. I'll see where I'm at in a month and I can schedule it then.

Best way to study for this thing in my opinion is to study as if you are only taking the USMLE and keep it simple stupid (great advice, hurts my feelings every time). I only used BRS phys, Goljan, First Aid for the first 2 months. Then for the last 2 I started working in U-world and did that pretty much nonstop. I then took the usmle and spent the next 2 days studying OPP.

took it 5/27 and got a 788/99

My advice, prepare well for the usmle (+ some opp) and you will know more than enough for comlex

Uhhuh, okay buddy.

that's 4 months total. what school gives 4 months to study for the comlex? i mean... if we all had 4 months, we'd all do well.

Obviously we dont get 4 months just to study, we get about 3 weeks of dedicated study time. But I started studying in January while we still had classes, usually got about 2 hours a night.

Congrats!! What is it that you want to do when you grow up???

Clearly this is the chosen one spoken of in the prophecies, destined to bring balance to osteopathic medicine.

Did the computer play a golf clap sound effect when you closed out of the exam? Holy hell.

There are 3 main things u need to know from savarese if u are in a pinch for time...Autonomics (levels and nerves supplying different organs...i think it was chapter 9 or 10), Sacrum/innominates, and Cranial...that was a majority of what I had for OMM on the COMLEX

when you say sacrum/innominate and cranial, are you referring to the individual chaps or also techniques (ie muscle energy, hvla, etc) for those parts of the body as well?

you are full of crap. There is more stuff on the COMLEX that is NOT in BRS Phys, Goljan, and FA...so either you are ag ood guesser, a practicing osteopath already, or just a joke. Im guessing the joke.

Bitch.

You need to know how to diagnosis sacrum and innominate, chapman points are good to know (not many questions on them tho...like 3), and for techniques you need to know how to set each one up...like for muscle energy for a sacral dysfunction...muscle energy for innominate dysfunction and what not...HVLA setup for others...hope that helps

You're right, there is more on the comlex than just those sources. That's where u-world comes in. Also, I was simply trying to make the point that if you study a few sources really well, then you can do well on this test. I know that when I was trying to make a study plan it was very overwhelming and I just wanted to make sure I covered all of my bases. It wasnt until I chopped down my study materials that I really got going.

DoctaJMa,

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it because I'm getting stressed. Ok, let's say for the sacral/innominate chap (ch. 6), do I have to know the sacral mechanics and whatnot (pp. 44 in teh 3rd ed). I know how to dx and whatnot, but there's a lot of detail and I don't know how ppl just spend a day or two on this book.

PS, my test is a 2 weeks away. Sorry, I know I'm asking dumb questions, but it's freakout time! haha

LOL. A 788 that's rich. You do know an 800 is a perfect score right?

Oh and you didn't score in the 99% you scored in the 99.997% which would mean you without question got the highest score in the country.

Let's do the math because I'm sure as someone who received a 788 on the COMLEX you know what the statistically likelihood of your claim being accurate is.

If passing is 400 (and it is) and if the SD is 81 (and it is) then your score is beyond 4 SDs (nearly five) above the mean. Currently there are 19,427 people enrolled in an Osteopathic Medical School around the country. Being generous if I give you 20K and divide that by four then assume ever person in that population is actually going to take the COMLEX (and we know from attrition rates that isn't true) then according to the number outside of a CI of 4SDs we can see that your score is rarer than 1/31,574 and as I previous estimated (in your favor) there are only 5K people taking the COMLEX this year.

Your claim would be equivalent to an allopathic student claiming to have scored a 299 on the USMLE (which to my knowledge no one has ever done).

So therefore what are the odds that the individual who got the highest score on the COMLEX in the country this year and possible since the test's inception bothered to sign up at SDN when in all probability you are (would) be in the middle of his or her first or second core rotation to brag to people he or she will never meet?

The one conclusion I can come to with any degree of certainty is he should have sprung for the extra 20 bucks it cost to do the biostatistics review with USMLE World. At least it might have made him a more credible liar.

Lastly the texts you cite are riddled with errors that aren't even in the erratas. For instance, Goljan says a spontaneous pneumothorax deviates to the ipsilateral side (it doesn't) and Goljan claims HPV types 6 & 11 are responsible for laryngeal carcinoma (they aren't)...and those are just the errors I've caught in the last 24 hours. In other words you can't even been certain what you thought you knew to be correct is in fact correct (when Goljan said American Books are poorly written he wasn't kidding).

First off you sir, are an idiot. The mean is 500, so that means that I am above 3 SD. Check your facts before you go on a little rant.
Also I posted my score under a new account because I wanted to gauge just how good it really is. The fact that all of you think that I made it up (laughable) makes me realize that my score really is THAT good. The best score since its inception though? come on dude.

I am sure he or she did not mean to attack you. He just wanted to show that it is impossible to get that high score. However, if you thought it is your REAL score then post the score from NBOME on here so ppl can see but it's totally up to you. Lastly, since you claimed you made that awesome score. Please do share your experience, so that ppl who still taking the exam learn something from ya. Please don't take it personal because noone know who you are. 😎

This post is worthless. You have a slightly warped idea of how the test is scored...and why do you care so much?

I would like to see a screenshot of that 788 though, It is not impossible but definitely improbable. If it's real, good work eriedearie!

Honestly, if you really did make that score, then ppl are getting pissed at you because they're jealous. it's not a knock on them because when I first saw your score, i was whattheheccckkkkk as well.....

i'm not saying you're a liar, but i'm just trying to say that the score you got seems too good to be true so it seems unbelievable.

anyway, congrats. i'm sure you earned it. 🙂

Yeah I take ownership of that error. I had realized when I woke up that I was so tired from studying for the past 12 hours I had started doing the stats at the passing score for COMLEX instead of the mean.

Back to your dubious claim "dude."

It still puts your score at 3.55 SDs from the mean and a score that is approximately 1/5192. This would STILL give you the top score in the country and yes "dude" quite likely the top score since the COMLEX's inception. the test has only been around for 13 or 14 years "dude."

The fact that you are so obtuse that you would play into everything I've said assures me your claim is made up. If you truly had the top score in the country you would have figured this out before I did the math for you and certainly before you made the claim.

You logically then would have realized how audacious the claim was and most likely would have concluded that even though it was true it would probably be best not to go there because no one would believe you anyway.

Instead you tried to pretend you didn't know how good of a score that was? Strangely I believe you on that part yet ironically that was the obvious faux pas in telling such poorly thought out lie.

You're so stupid you don't even realize how outrageous the lie is.

I don't really care persay. I actually think it's hilarious that anyone, yourself included, would even entertain such a claim.

So I saw this "dude's" claim as easily disprovable and I was bored from studying the same material over and over and over.

It just goes to show when all you do is workout and study even a ***** lying on SDN becomes relatively exciting...at least for me.

Dude, I don't see why you are so harsh on this guy. Noone care if he made 800/99 and noone care about your math either. Did you take COMLEX already? If you did not then I recommend you should spend more time on studying rather than on some nonsense calculations😱. We are here to wait for score and share experiences, not to bash each other. Take the exam and you'll see why I recommend you not wasting time on some non-sense posts. 😀

So I have a question.

Mean = 500. SD = 81.

Passing = 400.

So to pass, you can't be any lower than ~1.25 SD below the mean.

On a normal distribution, <-1.25 SD = ~11%. So 11% of people fail comlex? Seems a little high

hey everyone,
i didnt realize when i posted my score on here that it would get such a polarizing response. i posted on here just like everyone else does, whether they got a 400 or 800. i just wanted to share how i studied and what worked for me. i really did get a 788/99 and i understand why some people may not believe that but just to appease all you doubters out there, here's a screen shot ( figured that was a bad idea, i dunno about backlash from nbome. if u really want it then u can pm me) . i guess i dont really have to prove anything to you all but hopefully we can just stop the negative tone of these posts and go back to what this thread was originally addressing - sharing our scores and how we studied. now some might say it's photoshopped or doctored (pun), but oh well..believe what you want.

and for those wondering why i only have a few posts.i have another SDN account but my name/identity was easily discernible from it and knowing all my classmates scour these threads...i just didn't want everyone from my school to know. i've told my parents, girlfriend and a few close friends my score and thats about it..and of course anonymously shared with you guys just to throw in my 2 cents about study methods.

my main point is that anyone can do well on this test. does it require a solid baseline of knowledge? absolutely. but if you start studying early and consistently even just a couple hours a night, you'll do great.

good luck

ill just be proud you're from LECOM-E (im assuming based on the name)
although I gotta say im a bit pissed... if they score you based on all those who took it that day/week, then im fairly sure my score would have been 30pts higher if you didnt take it on the 27th 😉 haha

WOW, I am speechless😱. This is the most awesome number I've not seen in my life. Hat off to you sir. See, it's much easier for everyone if they could see with their own eyes. Once again, congrats on the well performance. Wish mine would be awesome like that (That's why I say I wish, lol) 👍👍👍👍👍

BTW, to the guy who did buncha nonsense calculations, go study and stop hatin' or Chuck will knock on your door😀

👍

Congrats! Sucks that it caused such a stir.

I personally don't agree with having to put up screen shots to defend yourself. I mean, come on...it's an internet forum: Let's just take what's on here with a grain of salt and go from there!

Lol, I agree with this person. To the KING of COMLEX, whenever you take step 2, please let us know so we can avoid from getting our butts kicked. Again, that's a freaking awesome score.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to get some advise on how to approach my last 10 days of studying before the exam.

I took COMSAE C yesterday and got a 498. I've got about 600 questions left on COMBANK. If I do 100 questions per day, that'll leave me 4 days before the exam. However, I'm debating if I should do the questions or just focus on studying my week areas. I'm weak in neuro and borderline on pharm, behavioral sciences, and GI. Plus, I'd really like to go through all of pharm one more time. My concern is that if I do 100 questions per day, that it won't leave me enough time to study these weak areas.

Part of me just wants to ditch the rest of COMBANK and really concentrate on these areas. What do you think?

Also, I'm looking for a little reassurance...it seems that most people that have posted their scores do better on COMLEX than on COMSAE C. Is that pretty typical for everyone? My goal has been to get the mean (500) (eventhough my main goal is to pass).

Thanks!

I would probably do 100 questions for 2-3 days in your weak areas. Then the last 7 days or so, just cram FA and go through it as many times as possible. I ditched doing questions in the last week because I had already done Uworld once before and I thought it was better to memorize more and more facts in the last week.

You probably know the concepts well by now, and from here on out it's just a matter of recalling certain facts/drug names/nerves/etc. and best way to remedy this issue is...memorize FA as much as possible!

And you'll most likely clear 500 on the real thing and probably end up scoring 20-30 points higher because that seems to be the trend with the COMSAEs and actual score.

Guys...please don't be ******ed. The world around the block has always been that the highest recorded score has been in the 69X's. I feel sorry for you erie, going through such lengths to fabricate a score is pretty lame...worse than the alloopaths that all post their scores in the 270s imo.

I didn't break any records here at PCOM w 699. A friend got about 20 points north of me. Pretty sure Taus on here did a lot better than that, too. In short, the 69x thing has to be misinformation.

🙄 the scaled score has a top-end (800) that can be hit. its not a mystical score. its not magical. and its definitely attainable on the right day. This isn't the type of guy to make the **** up. hell... i scored 670 and im not anything special. I highly doubt anyone is fabricating anything. at the end of the day, you need to be happy with YOUR score, because its going to be attached to YOUR name on your residency app. why not just congratulate someone on an excellent score and move on

Personally know someone with a 748, heard of someone last year with 790+, they were rotating with my buddy. Definitely not lala land.

I also know two people who got 744s this year. Doesn't make a 600+ any less good, but shows that >700 is certainly possible.

NBOME web down again? Does that mean scores will be coming out today as they prepare to upload the new ones?:xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf:

You can actually score above an 800. Faculty from my school confirmed that they had a student about 3 to 4 years back that scored an 850.

Scores up to June 3 were released around noon (EST) last friday. I took mine the 8th and have been checking every 10 minutes since about 10 am.

Thanks for the tips Rollo! I really appreciate it. I think you're right. I just need to cram as many facts as possible into my brain. Man, I can't wait for this to be over!

For those of you who have already gotten scores back, how well did COMSAE A predict your score? I took it yesterday and got a 503. I want to do psychiatry, so I'm really just looking to pass. I take COMLEX on the 20th.

im sick of waiting. is there no hope until this friday or can scores be released any day of the week?
