skip applying to this school. i am good friends with a few people who went to medical school here, they said it was a crappy program. with that being said, i have taught the medical students on several occasions and the material being presented was ok but nothing that is going to make you a great doctor. they tend to keep getting ranked higher and higher by who's who but i don't know if you should make any decisions based on that.

...but I don't know if you should make any decisions based on some random guy's comment over the Internet. Also, this guy seems to have a personal vendetta against Mount Sinai as a whole, based on his other posts. Bitter much?

I'm a MS2, there's nothing in it for me for admissions, but come interview and you'll see. I turned down several "higher ranked" programs to come here, and it's been a blast.

Yeah listen to the guy with previous posts about disciplinary actions in residency......not biased at all.....

err. just my opinion. feel free to do whatever yo wanna.

Hey for those of you who interviewed here, do you remember if they said they'll send out acceptance emails the week of Nov. 1st or the first week of Nov as in Nov 5th?

Interview invite 2 days ago, complete 9/12!

Another week, another no-invite.

Did they tell you when you were complete?

Nope, only a submitted email on 9/12. Sorry, should have been more clear with the post. 🙂

Edit: I forgot to add that I found the email in my spam folder, kinda odd.

Submitted secondary on Sept 1 - dying for an interview invitation here... but pretty sure I've been rejected 🙁

I sent an update letter a few weeks ago (complete early August). I called before hand to make sure they accepted letters because they have no guidelines like the other New York schools which spell it out and the admissions staff seemed really nice and told me it would be added to my file.
When you send a letter of interest should we send it via email or snail mail? I'm not really sure which email to use when sending them correspondence since the ones they used to send us secondaries looks like a generic email for the application site, not the admissions office. I've been complete since mid-August and would really like to hear something from Mount Sinai, already invited to pretty much all the schools I applied to in NYC except Sinai. Seems odd to me.

I still haven't gotten an II and I'm IS. Office is closed today, anyone know a way to check status?

Mount Sinai doesn't have in state preference so I don't really think that matters. The status page doesn't change after you submit your secondary. They'll let you know via email.

Bumping this guy's question. I remember it sounding like either 1st or 2nd week is a possibility, but maybe someone has more concrete knowledge.

Yeah, I am curious about that too. Does anyone know?

They said first week or even before possibly for the first wave, but with Hurricane Sandy I wouldn't get my hopes up anytime soon at all. They probably have a lot to deal with already.

I believe last year they sent out the first wave of acceptances on Nov 11th, so I'm guessing they will be out around that time this year. Also for those who applied to PORTAL, I was told when I interviewed that we wouldn't hear back until January.

Is the invitation to apply to PORTAL sent to everybody who's been offered an interview or just those who are eligible to apply?

i love this school so much! as time passes, my love only grows more. if I get an acceptance here in a few weeks, I may explode. 😍

im really tempted to write up a letter of intent/interest when I update them on my new job at the CDC.. is this a good idea?

just got an e-mail from them "As such, we will be sending decision letters to applicants on a regular basis between now and early May"

i guess we can expect the first batch of acceptances to be released sometime soon

Did they send you this email out of nowhere or did you send them an email asking when we could expect to hear?

i got that email today as well so i guess we'll be hearing some news soon....

OMG, me too! I first thought it was a rejection letter. But God promised me an admission to this school that I love soo much! My faith was a little shaken but the Devil will not win this! God has seen me through tougher situations and he is not about to let me down now. He just wont! AMEN!🙂

I didn't get this email... I wonder if it was generic or indicative.

I got this email too... What does it mean?? Does it mean that they are behind on reviewing apps, or are those who got the email pushed back for re-review at a later time?

In other news, I was "complete" here 8/14, so I assume I've been passed over at least once. Going to try a hail mary LOI in a couple weeks. I'll keep you guys posted if I hear anything.

What did the rest of the email say?

Thank you for your continued interest in Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

As you already know, Mount Sinai operates on a Rolling Admissions process. As such, we will be sending decision letters to applicants on a regular basis between now and early May. Our committee is extremely impressed with the quality of this year's applicant pool, including you. Please know that your application is important to us and that we appreciate your patience as we continue our review process.

As you weigh your options for next year, we encourage you to review Accelerating Science/Advancing Medicine which provides greater insight into the academic curriculum and the student experience at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Please remain in touch with us should you have any questions or concerns, and do not hesitate in providing us with updates that we can include in your admissions file.

I didn't get this! Commencing irrational panic mode...now :scared:

I think we should all take it as neutral or relating to the time of our interview--
I interviewed on 9/21 which I know was pretty early in their process.

The information they attached was not really specific as much as it is" rah rah rah, come to our school cause we're awesome".. it's some pretty dense reading with a lot of personal anecdotes relating to the mission/goals of the school.

Sounds like they've selected their first batch of students and are putting the rest of the applications back into the pool or sending out rejections. So the email probably serves to let one of these groups (not rejection group) know?

So has anyone actually received an acceptance notification yet?

I interviewed really early...Sept 12. It was like the second interview day.

I just emailed this exchange to multiple friends. With subject line LOLOLOL.
No explanation needed.
Is this for real?

That's what I'm thinking too, it sounds like a waitlist without specifically saying it.
Although it could just be that they haven't decided yet on the acceptances and are stalling...I guess if someone who didn't get this email but gets an acceptance email in the next day or week then we'll know for sure.

Very possible.. apparently in 2009-2010 they started releasing acceptances as early as 11/4. In the e-mail they do say "releasing acceptances between NOW and May"... so logically we could expect acceptances to come out at any time. Though I would be surprised if it was this early with the hurricane.. And because they attach the informational brochure.. I believe it must mean they made some kind of positive/neutral decision- acceptance, waitlist, or perhaps back in the pile for later.

However, if you didn't get the e-mail I wouldn't worry. I mean, the e-mail could just mean we are going back to the pile or waitlisted LOL From what I can tell, people with no e-mail interviewed a bit later?

But if they're going to accept us in a week, why would they send this email? Only seem to make sense if we're in the waitlist category...

I didn't get this email but the part that would kind of worries me is the last line about keeping in touch and sending updates. Kind of implies that they won't be in contact for a while. I could be completely wrong though, so good luck everyone over the next few days!

Maybe they follow the SDN thread for entertainment/procrastination at work and decided to send out an email they knew would offer some entertainment.

If so....well done

I see what you're saying... But the same logic applies to people receiving any kind of decision. The e-mail only REALLY makes sense if we are just going back into the pile and will not hear from them for a while lol

Cause you're right.. either way, if the decision is coming to us soon anyway then this e-mail becomes a bit pointless.

Maybe it's just an update on their part sent to the early interviewers since it has been nearly 2 months since we've heard anything. Kind of to refresh our minds on the school and when they will begin releasing acceptances? I remember when I interviewed they seemed really vague about when they would release acceptances... perhaps they have a better sense of it now and they just sent a friendly update.

Haha or MedicalAuthor is right
