Did anyone else get an invitation to apply for their 5 year dual degree MD/Masters in Clinical Research (MSCR) program? I got the interview invite recently and then got an invitation to apply to this program later. Wasn't sure if it is something that they send out to everyone.

Thanks!

Haha, I just posted about this, but I just referred to it as PORTAL.

I'm not sure I understand the provisions. They only provide additional support during your fifth year when you earn the masters? I'm already earning one masters degree this year. I don't know if I care for another yet.

For those that received interviews, what did you guys write in the subject of the email? Just the same subject of the email you received regarding the interview?

Is application to the PORTAL program binding, ie. you cannot transfer out of PORTAL into the regular MD program once you are admitted?

And is the PORTAL application separate from the MD program, ie. two different admissions committees?

just curious...what percentage of students are jewish?

I have a friend who is an M1 who is Jewish. I just asked him, and he said that about 25%, but that probably fewer than 10 per class are actually religious.

Why does it matter though?

It matters because it is a part of Sinai's mission along with AECOM to provide healthcare to Jewish communities in that area.

You dont have to be Jewish to care for Jewish people. Just saying.....

Exactly, I don' think Mount Sinai discriminates in terms of admissions on the basis of religion, either for or against.

Honestly, you hardly notice the Jewishness of this school other than the Orthodox Jewish patients that you see occasionally in the cafeteria or in the main lobby. I would say that probably around a third of the class have some Jewish heritage (defined as a practicing parent or grandparent), a quarter of the class have practicing Jewish parents, and less than 1/10 of the class being actually devoutly observant. I'm not too surprised by a large amount of the class having some Jewish relatives though, given how we're in NYC. I don't feel like the school actually gives these people an advantage in the selection process.

Importantly, our cafeteria isn't completely Kosher nor do our libraries close for the Sabbath, which I believe to be quite different from AECOM, which has both.

Were there any gaps in time, post-secondary school, or greater than one month duration, except summer vacations, that are not accounted for anywhere else on your application?

This is such a poorly worded question! Does this include time after graduation but before matriculation (ie a year off)?

Yes it includes time after graduation. However, if you spoke about it in the "Activities" section of your primary, there is no need to explain.

Is this true? I guess I misunderstood the question and submitted my secondary without answering the question.

Fair enough. I am definitely applying to both when my time comes.

That being said, is anyone applying to the MSTP program at Mount Sinai?

Interview Invite!!
cGPA: 3.63
sGPA: 3.42
MCAT: 31S

I was complete here September 10 and received interview invite September 19 (very quick)!

Can't believe I could score an interview here! It's on October 30th by the way, so it seems that interview dates are still relatively early

gives me hope

I vaguely recall in years past that Mt. Sinai seemed receptive to LOIs. I think a couple of people reported sending letters and receiving invites soon after. Does anyone know if the admissions office actually gives greater consideration to letter writers, or were these occurrences merely coincidental?

I don't know, but I'm interested in sending an LOI myself. I can't find a good email address, does anyone know where I should send it? Thanks!

there seems to be mixed responses to this in previous years' threads, but when they ask about "gaps in academic record," does this include what i'm doing this upcoming year if i graduated this past may? i did not take any breaks during my college career.

Seeing as how they only list their phone numbers and no email contact, wouldn't this be a big hint that they don't want you emailing them? Just a thought.

Yeah, me. No word yet.

Does Mount Sinai let you know if/when your app is complete?

Me as well for MSTP! : ) II on 9/27, I 10/29-10/30

kettlecorn - you should post yours in the md/phd invite thread!

I know this has been discussed previously, but I don't feel like it was ever conclusively resolved and would like to confirm...

Does Sinai send out 'application complete' e-mails? I submitted 08/06 and never received one.

no i don't think they do

So a friend's mom is faculty at the med school and suggested I apply... Though it was already pretty late.
I submitted my secondary 9/20 with 32Q and 3.6gpa (but w/darn good essays if you ask me).

Thoughts?
I'm thinking it was so late that it was probably a waste of money...?

You already applied, so who cares what anyone thinks? Hopefully you get good news soon :xf:

I just decided to apply to three more schools in the general geographical area I want to be in - submitted my secondary minutes ago. I know it's frowned upon to apply this late, but it's a risk worth taking for me. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts!

For those of you who have already interviewed, do you happen to remember when your interview day ended? Not quite sure how late in the afternoon/evening my return flight should be...
Thanks!
