Nice to see that someone else has the same thing. I'm just anxious to make sure everything is in order as Sinai looks like an excellent school.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Just received the confirmation email for my secondary. Submitted 7/29. I check the link to the status page but all I see is my submission date and time and a to do list. Nothing telling me my letters arrived or anything.

Does anybody else get a complete message when they check the status page?

I received a complete email this morning as well; however, I don't see any type of indication that my letters have been received either. I think if they're uploaded to AMCAS, you should be fine. The reception of letters could just be referring to those who had to register their actually letter writers. I'm not totally sure on this though.

yeah. I haven't had any problems with my letters uploaded to AMCAS with any of my other applications. I'm assuming most med schools are pretty well-integrated with the AMCAS letter download process by this point.

goodluck all!

Did you get a complete email, or a receieved email?

I guess technically I received a "received" email

Congratulations! You have successfully submitted your online application to the MD Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. We sincerely thank you for your interest in our school and look forward to reviewing your application.

Letters of recommendation will only be accepted through AMCAS. If you or your school use either VirtualEvals or Interfolio the letters should be transmitted to AMCAS through that service but it is up to you to make sure we have received both your supplemental application and letters of recommendation.

Applicants who are selected for an interview will be notified via e-mail. The MD program interviews Tuesday through Friday from October through March and require a full day's commitment on the part of the candidate. Details of the interview day will be explained within our e-mail.

Got my complete email today! Who here is also applying to Rochester and Einstein? I had thought I might be able to pair all of the New York schools together but it looks like Mount Sinai does everything way later...This sucks for money because I live in Utah right now. What are some things that Mount Sinai does better, or at least differently, than those other two schools?

These schools plus nymc make up my list of new York medical schools! If I get lucky enough to get another ny interview, I doubt they'd overlap anyhow :-( I'm from California so each trip over is a looong fight haha I know this isn't what you want to hear, but unless I already have an acceptance I'd still probably fly out for each school's interview regardless of how I feel they stack up against each other simply because the odds for applicants blow.

My bad BTW. Wasn't a "complete" email. It was just an application received email.

Im not sure if I should write in the gaps in education section- Do they just mean if you took off time during undergraduate or before undergraduate? I have taken time off between undergrad and college, but I'm not sure if that is what they are looking for. Any thoughts?

Hi,

This is a stupid question but I could not find where to directly type my essays on to the forms. Under "Home", "To Do List", it says: 3. Documents/Essays, Type your essays directly into the application form or create them in your preferred word processor and upload them from your computer.

But when I went to Step 3 page, I did not find anywhere to type my essays and could only upload my Words documents.

Thank you.

I also thought this was peculiar, but I uploaded my essays as .docx and submitted without difficult.

What exactly is time off between undergrad and college?

Does that just mean time off during your college career?

Anybody not get a secondary yet? I was verified 7/29 and haven't received it yet.

Im an idiot, sorry i meant to say that I took time off after college! I otherwise dont have any gaps...

I am a non-traditional student and will have taken two years off between undergrad and med school (here's to hoping for an acceptance somewhere). I assumed that the question was referring to gaps in the academic record (so, time in university) so I answered with 'no'. Also, it mentions that you only need to list it if is not mentioned anywhere else in your app. I talked a lot about my experiences in other portions of my app so if you've done the same, then I would say you are set 🙂

Just added Mount Sinai to my application, hopefully I'll get a secondary soon!

Okay great- I was leaning towards no, and am glad that you agree. I appreciate your input, thanks!

Were there any gaps in time, post-secondary school, or greater than one month duration, except summer vacations, that are not accounted for anywhere else on your application?

This is such a poorly worded question! Does this include time after graduation but before matriculation (ie a year off)?

Yes it includes time after graduation. However, if you spoke about it in the "Activities" section of your primary, there is no need to explain.

Interview Invite! Submitted 8/3
Anyone know whats the closest/cheapest airport to fly to?

Do you mean you submitted it on 8/3 or were marked complete on 8/3? Congrats!!

Anyone know whats the closest/cheapest airport to fly to?

LaGuardia is the closest, but sometimes its cheaper to fly into Newark depending on where you're coming from. You can take a cab from LGA, which will set you back maybe $30, or shuttle to the subway. If you fly into Newark, then you'll have to take a train into Penn Station and either take the subway or cab it uptown. That will take probably over an hour. I doubt JFK will be the cheapest option and it's further away than LGA, but if you do fly there, the subway will be the best bet.

Can someone confirm/deny that the 'Application Received' email is a complete email? Mine came after a 'Application Submitted' email. Thanks!

Thanks for the information.

Also I submitted on 8/3 and received an email saying they got the application on 8/6. The interview invite came on a Monday.

I'm wondering too. I got an "Application submitted" email 8/4, and "Application Received" 8/6. On the application page it just says Application submitted.

+1 i'm assuming that's the complete e-mail?

LGA is the closest to the med school. The M60 bus will take you directly from the airport to the 125th subway station where you can hop on a train downtown in about 30-45 min (2.25 one way). JFK is about an hour an 10 minutes from Sinai (6 train to 51st, and then E train - 7.25 one way). EWR is about an hour and a half (6 train to E, get off at Penn Station, transfer to NJ Transit - 14.75 one way). As you can see, I've never taken a taxi in NYC 😛

Which airport is the cheapest depends on where you're coming from. LGA has a lot of local flights from destinations on the east coast, whereas EWR and JFK handles more of the flights coming in from the west coast and such, but it's easy to fly into any of them for an interview invite in NYC. Just EWR will be a bit of a hassle and so you should probably take Super Shuttle if you decide to fly in via there. LGA and JFK is super accessible just using public transport.

Sinai interviews from October till March, every day of the week except Mondays.

And congrats if you get interviewed before January! The pre-January-ers traditionally have a very strong shot at getting admitted (anecdotal evidence, so take it as you will, but it's true 😛)

anyone have data on how many are offered interviews and accepted?

In order of Instate/OOS:
Verified - 1464/4621
Interviewed - 195/552
Accepted - no numbers given, but 140 total spots; matriculated = 44/93

I recently got an II to SUNY Downstate and will be in NY 9/25. Anyone have tips on how to go about writing an In-the-Area email for Sinai? I'm OOS so I don't know if they're going to be receptive about potentially granting me an interview so early. Do I mention I'm going to be at SUNY?

If you've had your app in at Sinai for a reasonable amount of time (like, maybe a few weeks or more?), I don't think it would hurt to mention that you will be in the area. Or you could wait a week or two before you send the email.. but I think it's worth a shot, because if it works, it'd save you a ton of money. If it doesn't work, I don't think it would hurt your chances.. would it?

Also, from MSAR, Sinai doesn't seem to have a strong IS preference - they interview the same proportion of IS and OOS students (a bit over 10% of applicants from each).

Side note, holy crap you applied to a ton of schools!

hahaha yeah. so you can imagine how important saving money is to me at this point 😛 I applied to a ton of schools because I'm a reapplicant and wanted to put everything I've got into this cycle! I don't want to reapply again!

-sent an in-the-area to Sinai and Einstein...I've been complete at Sinai only a few weeks but I figured I just let them know, if they choose to invite me later, oh well 🙂

Could you let us know if they respond? Lol. I am thinking of thinking an in-the-area email myself but my interview at SUNY upstate is not till mid-October so I'm thinking of holding off on that for a few weeks or so.

Sure thing. I'll post their responses when I get them. I forgot to mention I also sent one to NYU. They responded just now saying that if I am granted an interview they'll try to accommodate me.

Here's hoping for some news soon!

Has anyone who received II (i.e. interview invites) mind sharing stats and residency status?

anyone know when they start sending interview invites?

I believe one member posted saying that he had received an interview invite a few days ago - so to answer your question, they already have 😉

FYI guys... the total class size is indeed 140, but ~30 spots are reserved for the "Humanities and Medicine" (HUMED) early acceptance program, and ~10 spots are MD/PhDs who have a separate application process. You're looking at 100 straight-MD spots for each entering class at Sinai.

By the way, the in-state numbers for NYC schools tend to be a bit inflated, since there a lot of people who come from elsewhere to NYC for a couple of years and apply while living in the City. I don't think any of the Manhattan schools actually have an in-state preference, though self-selection among applicants leads to a large tri-state contingent. Also, the above numbers are tricky to compare to other schools, since it looks like they may include the HUMED applications.

Does Sinai send us a complete e-mail after submission of the secondary? Or do we call the admissions office to ensure all of our materials have been received?

I got an email saying mine was received, which followed one that said my app was submitted.
