2012-2013 Rays/Prelim Rejects Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
they wanted to make sure you got the message. the schools i got rejected from thankfully only sent the notice once, lol

Indeed. They wanted to be absolutely sure you don't become a resident, fellow or attending there. haha!

Tufts Mule Shatluck TY does not want to interview me "at this time"

Colorado rejection.

I found the USF invite kind of odd at 5 pm central time on a Friday, but I will take it.

Wow, absolutely NO love from philly!!

Penn - rejected 10/11
Temple - waitlisted 10/22
Jefferson - rejected 10/22

ditto x 3

and i won't hold my breath to pulled off the temple wait list. there go my philly dreams... 😳

No invite or rejection from Jefferson. I guess I am somewhere in-between.

Not sure what I did to piss off philly. I'm from the NE too so it can't be that much of a regional bias.
are you from NYC?when i interviewed in Upenn for med school they asked me very bluntly "why would you leave NYC for philly?" and my answer was not great --> waitlist.
maybe they dont think youll go to philly if youre from a diff major city in the NE?

I am from NYC and I rotated there to show my interest and was still rejected...

So there isn't much movement on waitlists? because I was wait listed at Colorado as well.

Emailed St. Luke's Colorado TY to see app status and was rejected. :/

UNC rejected one of my friends today. I haven't heard back from them so I'm assuming it's a waitlist.

Edit: prelim, not rads.

I guess no rejection email is reassuring then?

Got Temple wait list, Jefferson and Northwestern recently as well.

So did Jefferson and Temple send you a wait list e-mail?

Loyola rejection today, even before interviews have gone out, ouch

To the people who got rejected by hopkins, was your app fully complete on 9/15?

No. I had 2 of 4 LORs in (both of those were rads, though) when they downloaded my stuff on 9/17. The other two letters were available and downloaded 2 days later on the 19th. MSPE and USMLE scores were uploaded asap and nothing I could control.

Thanks trini and 49ers. I guess I'll continue to enjoy my stay in limbo.

Nope. Hopkins seems to be very selective. Not really the scores type of program it seems.

Why would you say that? All the ppl I know who interviewed there were 255+/AOA, not that that's unique to Hopkins.

How many were they out of 80 or so that hopkins invited?
Just get the feeling that hopkins vs. other power houses (ie: MIR, MGH, BWH, BID, Stanford, Mayo, UC system) is looking for more than just numbers.
This is judging from people that applied there and their resident profile page.

Definitely disappointed about rejection from Loyola! Got invites from top chicago programs but not loyola..so bizzare!

in the same boat as you...

waitlisted at UPMC. anyone know if that list will get any movement?

You got it twisted. Hopkins looks for numbers. MGH, BWH, Stanford, the big 3 california schools = numbers + research.

FWIW I Iv'd at hopkins with scores a little better than what drizz mentioned... almost all the other applicants were the same

I wouldn't say that at all. The top places that can get anyone look for more than just numbers (sd/sf/la/stanford, mgh/bwh, Washington) Those 7 programs are the most competitive in the country. Places like Mir/Hopkins are looking for numbers. You're correct in saying that mayo looks at more than numbers because they're looking for people that will go there. Last year they ranked people with 240s to match whereas even weaker CA programs like UCI had step 1 averages of 260 for interviewees.

If a 255+ is "numbers" to you, I don't think MIR is looking just for that. I know two people they are interviewing with scores in the 240s (upper and lower end) without rads research or ties to the school or region. They are AOA and don't go to a big name school.

Mir interviews a LOT of candidates, so it's not surprising people are getting jnterviews without extremely high #s. My point is that simply high #s usually gets ppl interviews.

This makes me feel worse about not having a MIR invite despite having high numbers AND being from St. Louis and a WashU alum who has directly expressed interest in the program 😕

You just came off as too needy/desperate. I'm kidding. Who knows what is going on in their heads...

I guess northwestern rejecting me from their rads program wasn't enough. Just got prelim rejection from them.

Same...tbh was a little surprised with these two rejections. I figured an AOA, 265+, MD/PhD, born/raised/undergrad+med school in the upper midwest candidate would have a good chance. Guess not what they are looking for.

You may go to a no-name med school. They tend to want students from top schools.

Well, sometimes this stuff is unpredictable, who knows. Most applicants from my sch with > 250 interview at wash u.

Ha, me too buddy. I got the rads interview, which I was really excited about, but got the prelim rejection today. I've got a few prelim/TY interviews, but I'm starting to get more anxious about that match than the radiology match haha. In hindsight, I wish I had maybe applied to more prelim years in less competitive places... the whole "prelim years are not hard to get" is true, but probably should have diversified a bit. Oh well.

The question is why are you all applying to academic prelims?
In my experience they favor neuro/gas/derm people and they are a lot harder.
