I'm just wondering how long did everyone wait for interview invitation after completing application? I'm actually a late applicant. My application was just completed couple days ago. My stats are MCAT: 30N, sGPA: 3.94, AO GPA: 3.95, In-state. I feel like I'm doing a crap shoot applying for SBU since it's so late.

Submitted mid August, complete a week later. 32 MCAT . 4.0ish sGPA, 3.8ish cGPA in state, very strong LOR, average ECs, minimal to no research. Haven't heard a word. 🙁

I feel like I have a very small chance of getting an interview because of my timing. I had everything submitted except for my prehealth committee package last week. My prehealth package will probably arrive in the next two days. I have about a year of research, average EC.
Interviewed there yesterday and had a great time. Both of the interviews were extremely relaxed and the students truly seemed happy there. Good luck guys!👍
Glad to hear! 👍

Submitted early July and haven't heard anything back
FWIW, at my interview Nancy the admissions coordinator made it a point to tell us that they read through all applications and they definitely take their time with apps...hang in there!!

Better not hearing back than to be rejected. Call them and ask if you can send an update. Maybe that will give you some info about your file.
Out of curiosity, roughly how large are the groups of interviewees on any given day?

are the two interviews both with faculty? or one faculty one student?

mine we both faculty. One was a basic science professor in molec bio, the other was a pediactric radiologist. Basically, everyone has a different interview schedule--some start earlier than others and finish up before lunch (after which there's a tour, financial aid info, etc) Others have a late morning interview, lunch, tour, info session, and finish up with their interview. My interviews were very relaxed--for my first interview we sat in little couches in the corner of a large room in the admissions office!

I had one faculty physician and one student. I think this is the norm but I'm sure it can also be two faculty members
has there been any rejections from SBU yet?

i thought october 15 was the earliest any applicant could hear back from a school...i assume SBU is the same.

People have been getting rejected around the country as early as July...and people have been accepted...are you talking specifically about SBU?i thought october 15 was the earliest any applicant could hear back from a school...i assume SBU is the same.

hmm, i thought it was AAMC regulation that nobody who interviewed could hear back before october 15. at least that's what the dean at another school told us.
👍
You can get rejected before but you can only be accepted for REGULAR admissions on oct15. EDP applicants found out earlier
for the life of me, I cannot find a list of student organizations/interest groups on the SB site. anyone (or SB students) know where to find this?
any rejections from here yet?
hey does this school actually send out a "your application is now complete" email?
A. Azarraga
yup. it may take some time but they do send you a complete email.
I am an MS1 here so I might be able to answer some questions if you have any.
I saw one question about interest groups, as far as I can tell there are not websites listing interest groups but we were given a sheet listing interest groups as part of the acceptance packet. There are quite a few of them. Virtually every major specialty seems to have an interest group and there are usually at least 1 or 2 interest group meeting per week over the lunch hour where doctors in various fields talk about their position and take questions. They usually have free food so they are pretty popular.
Be warned that admissions here is one of the slowest processes I have experienced. SB took a few months to get back to me post-secondary, and I didn't hear back post-interview until about 2 months later, which I hear it can take up to three months.
On the plus side, they do look at your application thoroughly, and they tend to be open to people from out of state.
So far I love it here, we have a small class that is ultra supportive and the instructors have been stellar.
One of my interviews was with Dr. Schechter, and it was one of the more memorable ones I had all year. He's a great person and his lectures are awesome if not always politically correct.

I google mapped the place. It seems like it's kind of a cloistered campus. Do you know what kind of patients/pathologies present there? I'm just worried that clinical exposure won't be to the same degree that you'd find in a downtown, safety net hospital.
SBU treats a wide variety of people from the very poor (SBHOME, a student run clinic, is a good route for getting experience treating uninsured people early on), to the very rich.
Its also worth noting that SBU Hospital is the only level 1 trauma hospital for Suffolk county, which is most of the landmass of Long Island, and has about 1.5 million residents.

Yes!!!! I submitted in late August and I finally called late Sep- the woman on the phone sounded flustered and ten minutes after that call I got the 'complete' email. That whole thing has me worried....submitted late august, and STILL not complete... should I call them?
i requested a student host, anyone who already has interviewed have any luck with that? otherwise, i would just fly into jfk instead of islip and stay home overnight...
Hang in there, buddy!!
How stringent is SB on the letters of evaluation requirement? Must you submit a committee letter if my institution has a premed office? Would they make exceptions and take individual letters?
Thanks
I can't speak to the exact specifics of this one because I had a committee letter sent in, however I did submit three additional individual letters and they accepted those as well. You are best off asking the admissions office this one.

I am not sure how many students are hosting but requests were made for students to host last week, so hopefully there will be a few more soon. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Nesconset Highway when I interviewed and that worked out fairly well. Its in the middle of nowhere but there is a free shuttle to and from SBU, and it was relatively cheap.
Come on stonybrook, still no IS love for me. I'm doing well with OOS apps, but still no word from stonybrook.

Don't stress about it, SB is notoriously slow but it doesn't mean anything about your chances of getting in.
Welcome to day zero, my friends.
Do you get an email saying they have received the secondary? also, is there a way to check my status?
Thanks
you get a complete email once they have your secondary and all your stuff--there's no real way to check your status though

Holy ****, congratulations!
Do fix your mdapps, you're dyslexic when it comes to attended interview acronyms.
hahahahaha okay okay i will 🙂
I got an email on September 17th that they had received my secondary but nothing since then - no complete email. Should I call, or is it just normal that it takes this long?
I think its pretty normal that it is taking a while. They do not send a completion email other than that they received your secondary application. I was complete on July 26th and got an interview invite a month later. They are probably a little more backed up now so don't you worry!I got an email on September 17th that they had received my secondary but nothing since then - no complete email. The real question is, when are they going to send out acceptances!?!

I interviewed on 9/27 and received the accepted email TODAY!!! So if you're waiting on a decision it may be soon! Best of luck!!
what time did the interview day start?
