For the past few days, there has been no gas here on LI. And the stations that do periodically have gas have hour-long lines of cars waiting to get it. Power is slowly coming back, and I think the LIRR should be up and running by the time of your interview. I guess it all depends on how you get to Stony Brook, but I think everything should be fine by Monday. Unfortunately, I was one of those applicants whose interview was cancelled. 🙁

Hows traffic getting there on 1 495/LI Expressway? Are there lots of roads closed?

The LIE is fine, so is Nicolls Road. Depending on which road/bridges you're taking, getting through the city might be a bit of a mess, but who knows, it'll probably be back to normal by next week. If this gas problem still exists though, I would fill your tank before you get into the NY metro area, just to be safe.
 
Thanks bluecal! This was asked previously in the thread, but I dont think an answer was provided. When does the interview day start, or does this vary based on when your faculty interview is scheduled? Thanks!

I believe it varies. Interviewees get an email about a week before their interview informing them when to arrive. Usually around 9 or 10.
 
I interviewed 6 weeks ago and just realized there are errors on my AMCAS primary. My gpa isn't accounting for 8 credits for which I was given A's. Any advice or insight as to how I should rectify the problem? Should I call every school I applied to?

Will tomorrow. There is a link on the AMCAS application page to request fixes. I submitted a request and they said it will take about five business days. My worry is that many schools print out the application and add it to a folder or that they already reviewed my file with the current stats and put it in a less competitive file. My AMCAS gpa reports a 3.0 post bac gpa and I've never taken a post Bach class. My science gpa does not include calculus I and intro to Spanish is missing from my non science. At my school, these are both 4 credit classes and I got A's... In other words, I'm freakimg out!!!
 
Anyone who interviewed in October starting to hear anything?

Accepted!! Just got the email So excited, I interviewed Oct 9th, so I wasn't expecting anything for at least a week or two!

i have an interview friday, but nancy couldn't find me a student host due to sandy. can any students on sdn host me or know of cheap lodging options nearby?

Well that's good to know! Congrats!! You were one of the people that hadn't heard anything after the first round of acceptances came out and they were accepting people from interview dates after you. I interviewed late September and haven't heard ANYTHING yet. Was a little discourage yesterday because so many people got acceptances from interviews after mine but I guess its not over yet haha. This process is making me so neurotic, I don't like myself anymore :annoyed:

Haha thanks and you are correct, I missed the 1st round but this should give you some hope! Get ready for a long wait but just cause you haven't heard back after interviewing doesn't mean you don't have a good shot! Good luck!!! : )
 
Going to give up my interview, hopefully someone here gets my spot. Best wishes, all!
 
lot of places in LI are still out of power and heat. I work on LI and my boss still doesn't have electricity or power. This is going to make finding any hotel more difficult. If need be, you're welcome to crash on my coach but I live in Manhattan. I drive to long island in the morning and I could drop you at a nearby stop on the LIRR which will take you right to campus.

Can any current med students comment on the current state of Stony Brook? I'm coming for an interview in the next week and am wondering what the level of damage is and how far along the recovery has come.
 
So its been over 6 weeks since my interview with no word. Anyone know if they send out rejections or just keep reviewing your file?

How long did it take for you to receive the packet after getting the email? I got my acceptance email a week ago today, and still haven't received the packet.

I got the email Tuesday and got the package Saturday. I'm in Manhattan so I'm pretty close. I paid the deposit and sent in my letter yesterday. If I were you, I'd check to make sure they have the right address. Also, the package came in he regular mail as opposed to FedEx, UPS, carrier pigeon...

everything is back to normal. stony brook is one of the highest points in long island so it never floods. the hospital has generators that work very well and the staff is very responsive to fixing on-campus power outages when they occur. the surrounding areas were affected by falling trees and power outages but are mostly back to normal...certainly all major roads and many minor ones are back to normal. The LIRR has some scattered delays and service changes that you should check up on in advance. Best way to get to your interview would be by car.
 
I've got my MSTP interview here tomorrow. Anyone who has interviewed for the MSTP program have any comments about the experience? It's my first MSTP interview so I'm super excited and nervous. Good luck to everyone else with interviews coming up!
 
Accepted today via email. Interviewed on 10/26. OOS my interview went so badly that my interviewer point blank said I came off too hard for his liking and that I should tone myself down. I felt absolutely terrible for days after the interview. Guess it worked out.

Congratz! I also wanted to point out to anyone checking these forums waiting for an acceptance (like me) that people who were interviewed after 9/28 were accepted last week, and yet Toby13 just got accepted today. So don't freak out that you haven't been accepted yet.
