Hey for accepted students: How long did it take for you to get your acceptance letter/packet in the mail? I have been waiting for two weeks and nothing yet.... :/ I want to know which clinical campus I have been selected to.

Hey guys,

Im consider applying here for the 2013-2014 cycle. I know its a new school, but can anyone offer up honestly what the area is like. ive heard is a bit dull and impoverishment. NOT to put down the city or the school. Ive just heard by others its not the best area to live. Im from the west coast, if anyone can provide insight about what the community, campus environment is like it would be much appreciated! thanks!

The school isn't new, but the building is. It was finished in 2009.

You've heard right. Temple is in a low-SEC, high crime part of town, North Philadelphia. Most students don't live by campus (though there are some renovated rowhomes around the corner from the building that are rented out to HSC students) and generally stick to center city or Manayunk. The area does make for some very interesting hospital experiences, though. Lots of trauma, lots of people that wait too long to come to the hospital until they are very, very sick, lots of comorbidities, etc.

The fresh prince of bel air was born and raised in west Philly and his mom sent him away...north Philly is an interesting experience to visit. I've been all over so it didn't seem that bad to me but from the west coast it might seem like a bit of a culture shock. My interviewer told me it is advisable to have a car and not travel anywhere alone. My mentor and family practice physician told me verbatim you're going to get raped. I think it is about being smart. Plus you're most likely living elsewhere in a cool city.

In terms of experience and environment (especially if you aspire to work w the under served) it is a priceless place to attend med school.

I haven't received my acceptance letter/package in the mail and its been almost 3 weeks? Should I give them a call?

Ok so second look day is April 5th. Has anyone gotten anymore info on this day? Should I have already booked a plane flight or what? I haven't got much details.

Wish this school was a bit more organized.

Also, is there any way to find out which clinical site I have been accepted to rather than wait for the snail mail?

Alone. If you're staying overnight, you can certainly bring your significant other to check out the city, but IIRC, the school events are just for the accepted students.

I'm trying to remember what our second look day as like. I'm pretty sure it started with a continental breakfast (with coffee, of course) and just a bit of time to mingle with the other accepted students, as well as probably some current students and faculty. Then I think there were some might be some information sessions, on things like where most students choose to live, what there is to do in Philly, etc. And there was some meet & greet/ice breaker things. Then I know they took us on a tour again and took us through a bunch of different rooms in the Sim Center. People got to try to talk to SPs, check out the Sim man, play with the laparoscopic surgery simulator, stuff like that. Then they took us to Dave and Busters for some food and gaming. It was fun.

I'm not a tour guide or student interviewer, but I have some friends that are and I got the impression that they were winding down the interview season. I don't know if that means they're already done sending out II's or not. I know that clears nothing up. Sorry, folks.

yup who all is going? I hope they explain a lot more about the financial aid and also how the curriculum is set up.

I'll be going. Looking forward to meeting some future classmates! 🙂

Hey,
Besides the deposit of $100 is there anything else we need to send Temple for our acceptance? I still haven't received my official snail mail for my acceptance..only an email :/ So i want to make sure I do not need to send them anything else.

Thanks

For any accepted students is there a way to start registering for graduate housing or any info we are gonna get on where we can live and stuff like that?

If you paid your deposit. Your status should change to deposit paid. Once you have paid that your seat in the incoming medical school class is safe. 3 weeks sounds way too long to receive your snail mail letter. I would call, it probably got lost in transit somehow.

I know this probably isn't going to garner a reply to my question, but it's worth a shot! Does anyone know what your online status says if you get rejected post-interview? I know a waitlist leaves your status at interview complete. The reason I ask is that my decision letter seems to be lost in the mail. Whenever I email them I don't get a response, and when I call they just say they'll make a note to re-send it to me but it never seems to get re-sent. I know I didn't get accepted since my status is still at interview complete, but I'm trying to figure out if I'm waitlisted or rejected. Interviewed early December 🙁

Just call them.

I've called multiple times and gotten the same response each time (listed in my original post), but I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

im guessing if I havent heard from the school, i've been silently rejected 🙁

I'm really disappointed temple didnt take me as im an undergrad at temple with a sGPA of 3.8, overall gpa of 3.77. I had a 29 on my MCAT though (10,8,11) and my secondary was completed by september (i know it's late)

Is there even graduate housing? I was under the impression that almost all student lived off-campus, and most lived in Manayunk/Roxborough/East Falls or center city.

For second look, does anyone know if we're supposed to be getting hotels for that, or are there student hosting options?

depress, I got in the same day as you and have not received anything either. I'm not sure what the deal is!

Hey, I'm staff here at Temple (have an interview next Tuesday, fingers crossed for waitlist placement), but in the process of tooling around the website I found the housing website:

http://www.temple.edu/studentaffairs/housing/select-your-housing/

They offer housing for graduate students too, and the site is linked from the SoM website, but I honestly do not know if any med students use Temple's housing. Few students live near the Health Sciences Campus, but honestly if you can find something within Philly along the Broad Street Line (try PadMapper with the transit overlay), you'll be just fine. I used the subway rides for MCAT study time and the express can get you into Center City within fifteen minutes.

Does anyone know where we can find the 2013 match lists? I can't seem to locate it anywhere.

Well good to know that I am not the only one 😀... have you tried contacting them about it? I am debating whether I should bother them by calling? Or just wait it out till 2nd Look day...

btw..is there any way to find out which clincal campus you have been accepted to for 3rd and 4th year besides the snail mail? That is mainly why I want my official letter in the mail... :/

I also havent received my snail mail letter either. They said your interviewers sign the letter so it depends on when they get around to it.

Also is there gonna be an official FB page for class of 2017?

Maybe some current students could chime in:
So I'm starting to look into housing and will be touring apartment buildings over the weekend of second look (primarily looking in center city along the broad street line because I won't have a car), are there any buildings in center city that are particularly popular with Temple med students?

Thanks!

Does this mean that everyone who is interviewing now is looking at a wailist ? They don't give out acceptances anymore ??

Hey so I'm a little confused .. I interviewed on Feb. 12th at St. Luke's but I never really knew for sure whether I was interviewing just for the St. Luke's program or for all of the Temple programs. Anybody know? Also, (either way I guess) does anybody know if decisions take a little longer for people who interviewed at St. Luke's? I still haven't heard. Thanks in advance.

Is everyone really waiting on snail mail? I actually just got an email when I was accepted...

Yah but you don't know where you will be for years 3 and 4 unless you receive the letter

It'll just be for St. Luke's and they will take a bit longer to get back to you because they need to go through two admissions offices basically.

Could any currents students tell me generally when people start looking for housing?

I'm just waiting it out - I'm not going to choose someplace else over Temple regardless of the clinical campus. But I bet you could call and ask which clinical campus you've been accepted to.

I don't know what price range you're looking for, but I know a ton of people live in The Drake, The Newport, The Versailles, and the Tourraine. They're all right on the Broad St. line, so super easy and convenient to get to Temple Med, you can take the express train and be there in 15 minutes.

I'm sorry I'm no help with housing. Most people live in CC and take the Broad Street line in, or live in Manayunk and drive; that's really all I got. I live in the suburbs with my family and drive in a different way. There's only like one other person in my class who lives pretty close to me.
