Well, I did get my pre-interview rejection today. Postmarked Jan. 23rd.
 
Got a continued letter today post-interview. 🙁 interviewed on 12/11

That might be a good sign. Several people (on here and one I know) got the same thing and got accepted within a few weeks of it.🙂. Don't fret yet!

Nymphicus, or other present M1's who haven't commented on this, could you comment on how the new curriculum is going? What things have caused upsets and hangups, and what things are good? How do most students feel about it? How do you anticipate next year's even shorter pre-clinical curriculum will be? Have things been organized? Is there time to learn the quantity of material? How do you like Vandy? Thanks in advance.😀
 
Just got the continued consideration letter. Interviewed on 12/10. Does Vanderbilt have a wait list, or is this the rough equivalent of a wait list?

Details for those invited will most likely come by email within a month from now (based off previous year's timings).
 
does anyone know how to send updates after your interview? just to the interview email address? or is there a different one?
 
So... I submitted my secondary app in November (that's late, I know; got the invitation late). Check marks early December. And I understand that interviews ended Friday but I haven't heard a thing from Vanderbilt. I expected a rejection letter but does anyone think that they've extended interview season since primary app deadlines were extended?

Same except submitted the secondary in October. What gives?!
 
Called them just now; they're no longer offering interviews. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I've been waiting for an answer since October.
 
does anyone know how second look is done here? i remember someone telling me that they put us in a hotel and give us free passes for events in the city...

We should be getting more information soon, especially since the deadline to confirm attendance is March 4th.

I think very few are merit-based, and usually you hear about those at the time of your acceptance, sometimes later, though the big ones are around the time of your acceptance. The rest are need-based and you get those after you fill out financial aid forms
 
With the advent of the new curriculum, will all of pre-clinical (year one) be pass/fail?

I read that in the past (or maybe even currently) the first year was pass/fail but second year was H/P/F.
 
Have there been any post-interview rejections? Or is Vandy just waiting until next month to reject me?

Sorry, but this question went unnoticed. Can any current students give us opinions on this? My only concern about Vandy is the newness of the curriculum. Especially the fast transition into the one-year preclinical. Comments? Please?😀

In the past, the second year was H/P/F. For the current M1 class, they have eliminated honors in the second year (so only P/F). We have not been told to expect otherwise for the incoming class, so yes, the first year should be all P/F.

Sorry, but this question went unnoticed. Can any current students give us opinions on this? My only concern about Vandy is the newness of the curriculum. Especially the fast transition into the one-year preclinical. Comments? Please?😀

Our class (M1) is more like those classes who have come before us, in that our curriculum is mostly the same as theirs', only a touch accelerated. We haven't experienced the "new" curriculum (referred to as Curriculum 2.0 by the administration). While there have been the odd lecture here and there that was not trimmed appropriately by the lecturer/course directors, on the whole I'd wager we have had enough time to learn the material. Organization of the courses has also largely been the same, so that's been good for us.

As for Curriculum 2.0, Vanderbilt has been working towards this point for many years now, involving faculty and students throughout the process. They have always had the goal of doing the one year pre-clinical; i.e. it's not that they wanted to do a new curriculum and then decided why not also make it one year. So to your point about it being a fast transition, I'd say this is actually a slow one, given that they had our year to transition. This transition year was primarily to ensure high quality clinical rotations without too many students on the wards simultaneously.

I can't speak too much to what Curriculum 2.0 will be like as a student going through it, but I do know that the level of student engagement in the current planning process as well as the constant solicitation of and action on student feedback during the academic year are likely to make it as smooth as possible. Don't expect there to be zero bumps along the way, but I think Vandy's doing a great job minimizing them.

People in medical education have often said that the strength of an institution is their willingness to change when everything's currently working well. Remember that as you consider your options.

Does anyone have any details on second look weekend yet? Or can any current students let us know kind of whats up?

wait so this coming incoming year, is the second year p/f? i guess we won't know yet.

I doubt the second year will be P/F since second years will start rotations. I think he means that just the first year (i.e. all the preclinical stuff) will remain P/F, as it is currently.

The pre-clinical year(s) are P/F unranked. Clinical rotations are graded with an honors scale.
 
Anybody who interviewed in January hear anything? My roommate is going bonkers.

not sure about specific dates, but the general pattern has been that Dean Zic makes phone calls on saturday and sunday afternoons/early evening

Does the admissions office also send out an acceptance email right after the phone call? That would be helpful in case a successful applicant misses the call.

At least in my case, the acceptance letter came via snail mail over 2 weeks (yes, weeks) later. I believe Dr. Zic leaves a voicemail if you miss the phone call, though.
