2013-14 Anesthesiology Applications & Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Who told you that they only interview in January? My interview is in November.

Ops sorry i guess i interpreted it wrong, my email stated "We are currently offering interviews on Tuesdays and Thursdays in January, 2014." I thought that meant that is all they had originally offered ... but i guess it means they've filled most of their interviews up.

Cancelled Virginia Mason, USC, UC Davis, and UT Southwestern. Best of luck!

I was just wondering what most people think the "magic number" was for ranking? I am now considering canceling some interviews to cut down on expenses etc.

Has anyone heard back re: interview scheduling from Cedars Sinai (LA)? Got the invite a long while back now....

Around 10 for a >90% chance of matching. Source: charting outcomes in the match 4th ed

Cancelled Columbia, Mt. Sinai, Hopkins, Upenn, UColorado. Best of luck, I know some people were on the Hopkins WL.

Double check the series of emails you get from Cedars. I also was wondering about this, only to realize the invite was attached to one of the emails. FYI, just interviewed there this week. Good Luck

Are you focusing more left coast and Boston?

Are you focusing more left coast and Boston?

After some serious thought I realize that cold winters just make me miserable... so yea only keeping places where snow doesn't stick to the ground except for the the Boston programs which I'm keeping in serious consideration.

Hey, is anyone interviewing at UIC on November 23rd who would be willing to switch dates with me? Thanks, and I appreciate it!

Received an email from Cornell stating that an interview invite was sent in early October (which I can't seem to locate anywhere), and asking to either schedule or the spot would be given to someone on the waitlist.

Canceled Virginia Mason... Good luck!

Step213, why didn't you tell Hopkins to call me? :)

VM? Aw that was a fav of mine so far!

I'll leave a message for Hopkins for you... cause you know how much they must value my opinion ;)

I know, I was really excited about it, but I just don't know how I could make it work with my family. :-(

Thanks for putting in a good word for me! :)

Not sure if we're still updating this list anymore, but received a Harvard/Mass Gen invite today. Definitely wasn't expecting it! They had one date available for next week (Nov 14) and the rest in Jan/early Feb.

Thank you anesthesia2014 for reformatting the list! Although I was a fan of the old list that included usernames along with dates, the SDN posting limitations of 10,000 characters couldn't handle the awesomeness of my fellow SDN posters here ;). This also combines the functionality of the separate thread in the forum for interview dates which is a bonus.

As a happy medium between usernames and purely dates, I went back and counted up the number of people specifying each date and put it in italicized parenthesis after each date. That way people can still get a relative gauge for number of invites going out at a time.

@RT2MD and @gasthrowaway -- I added your dates to the list.

----------
please include these instructions when you quote - and refresh the page, then quote the last list available!
step 1: click on the blue "quote" button at the bottom right of the last post
step 2: remove the bracketed things at the very beginning "{quote=username;numbers}" and very end "{/quote}".
step 3: add date you received invite on appropriate line (the italicized number in parenthesis after the date is the total number of people receiving invites on that date)
step 4: include offered interview dates in blue brackets
***Please type what you are adding at the top so people won't have to search the whole post to see what you added!***

A mi tambien Re. a Brigham invite today. Also surprised! Wish they still had Dec dates available though so I wouldn't have to make so many trips to Boston!

Just curious if people have been getting rejections? I have gotten two so far (Wayne State, U of Colorado), but haven't heard anything at all from 10+ programs. I'm just going to assume that is my rejection, I guess.

Dang 72 programs! Did your school advise you to apply to that many? I am a DO as well and only applied to 25. 10 invites, 3 rejections and 2 "wait lists". The advising at my school is well shall we say nonexistent - so just curious.

MD applicant here, good steps but 2nd quartile (my class is insanely smart!) and no AOA. I haven't heard any rejections yet. Applied to 26 programs, 22 invites, nothing but crickets from 4 programs. Wondering if I will ever hear anything or just silent rejection town? Don't really care either way though.

the info I received was mainly from people on SDN that had applied in previous cycles. Most people suggested to apply to anywhere from 30-70 programs. The way I looked at it, I've come this far, I may as well spend a little extra and see what I could get. Overall, I am very happy with my invites, right now I plan on going to 13 interviews, so I was able to really pick and choose from a decent list of invites.
