See, this is what I'd like to do. Especially since things seem to be taking a little bit of a desperate turn for me. Perhaps this will be the first time I go against his advice. Thanks for the input!

Nope! I think a response would be the polite thing for them to do, regardless of their decision. I am giving it till Friday for a response and then just writing off as a no invite.
 
I received a personalized email invitation from the Institute for Multicultural Counseling and Education Services on Tuesday evening. They asked for an IN PERSON interview next Thursday, 1-4pm. I live on the East Coast and I responded to the email saying that I am very interested in their site and would love to interview with them but inquired politely if they would consider a phone or skype interview due to the short notice (one week), prohibitively high cost (over $650 for ticket and accommodation), and other commitments I cannot reschedule. They replied they only interview in person and "we wish we could work this out". So... I hope this interview goes to someone else who can attend it. I am surprised by their expectation to interview only in-person during Phase II.

I have gone back and forth on this. I am getting anxious too, but I keep reminding myself that it has been less than a week. For sites that we haven't heard about on SDN yet, I am assuming they are just taking more time to review our applications...which would be to our advantage! I am more inclined to contact sites that I know have already offered interview invites, because it is possible that they did not even fully review my application in their quick turnaround. On this forum, I have learned of a legendary folk hero who turned a rejection into an interview by doing this during Phase I, and I figure I have nothing to lose by following his lead. Even then, I don't think I'll send out those messages until Monday. I remember I received an interview invite during Phase I a full week after invites were initially offered according to SDN. Perhaps the same thing might occur during Phase II.

This makes me sad. It is especially terrible if they are interviewing more than a few people for their open position. To make you spend all that money for a 1 in 30 chance...I think it reflects poorly on the site. I don't know what your personal situation is, but I think for most of us...waiting another year is better than attending SOME of these sites.

When sites do this, it makes me wonder how they treat the intern during the year. They were in our position before shouldn't they have some compassion about our situation? Seems odd.
 
i also had a site tell me that, if i couldn't make an in-person interview, they would not interview me. luckily, i live nearby!

It's especially odd since they are the Institute of MULTICULTURAL Counseling and Education. You would think they would be sensitive to socioeconomic disparities and make accommodations in an attempt to be more inclusive.
 
I got a call from Visiting Mental Health in Florida asking for a phone interview today. I couldn't do it because I have clients but they said they would email me with a day and time. Seems weird to not ask if I can make it at X time but they were nice about it.

I did things backwards. I limited myself to only northern California for the first round and that backfired. It would be a pain to move because I own my house, my husband has a great job, etc. but sticking around another year is not an option at this point either. So, we'll work it out.... In LA, FL, NC... wherever!

Just got a call from Geocare in Indiantown, FL. They were setting up in - person and Skype interviews.

I think it is ethically dubious to require this for a one-year long contract.

For goodness sakes, many jobs (full time, non contract employment) use telephone or skpe these days. I was offered a VA job (which I turned down, actually) right out of internship based on a phone interview. Seriously, WHAT THE FRENCH, TOAST?!

Has anyone heard from the University of Vermont?
 
My husband and I decided that we could live anywhere for a year... It is definitely not ideal because he has a law degree and has already been very limited in his professional options by joining me in a semi-rural area for the last couple of years while I finish coursework etc. But since the whole Phase 2 situation is not ideal anyway, it seemed best to try to maximize my chances of matching by applying anywhere offering training compatible with my goals regardless of location. We also don't really know where we want to settle ultimately, so it seemed reasonable to be open-minded at this stage of the game.

It hard to think about putting off major life events like kids and buying a house, though...many of the places I have interviews are pretty much out of the running in terms of places we'd like to settle down eventually.

Yeah, I'm applying all over. My fiancé would stay in the town we are currently in due to having a stable, well paying job in the town we will eventually settle down in. We are currently looking for a house but may put tha on the back burner due to traveling cost during the internship year.
 
My husband is a lawyer and barred in our current state so it's definitely not ideal to pick up and leave for one year of training. However, given how hard it is to get an internship, we have no choice but to be flexible.
 
A nice rejection letter from Astor. It had my hopes up. I could see the words "I wish" then I opened it up and it said "I wish to thank you for your application". Darn. On to the next.
 
I've been watching this thread for a few days now and figured I should pipe in lol. I received an invite at University of North Dakota on Friday Feb. 28, Anka in Concord on Monday, College of William and Mary via phone and Southeastern Idaho Psych Consortium via email Wednesday afternoon, and Healthpoint Renton, WA via phone a couple of hours ago. Still waiting on like 21 more, including the prison in CA, multicultural in Los Angeles, Kansas State, Utah State, Florida State, Southern Il. state, Fullerton in CA, Santa Clara in CA, and U of Houston in TX. Hope this helps. I've got 5 interviews so far and hoping for another 5 lol.

Sorry to hear that! At least you know, but I'm sure it is a disappointment... Hang in there, it ain't over yet...I think/hope, anyway!

My fiance and I will have to do long distance next year if I match to one of the places I have interviews at. It isn't ideal, but we do not have kids yet, and we mutually agreed that it isn't worthwhile for him to uproot his life to follow me somewhere that, odds are, we wouldn't be planning to stay permanently. Definitely going to be a rough year, but I'm confident we could make it work. It's insane how much we have to change our lives in order to be able to finish our programs that we've already worked so hard and sacrificed so much for!

Hey all,

I've been creeping real hard on this forum through Phase II and felt compelled to contribute.

Interview offers: Shorehaven (email went to spam, so they called me), Community Services Institute (call), & Royal Oaks Hospital from the Heart of America Cons. (email)
Rejections: Oscar G Johnson (personalized, but looks like my name was just copy/pasted, as it was pretty generic) & Northern Ontario Cons. because I'm not Canadian and they can only interview Canadiens in Phase II (this was their statement in their rejection email).

BTW, very disappointed to find out that our supplemental items were not included since I applied to sites that I now meet the hours requirements for and included an addendum relaying that information.
 
Has anyone heard back from American Lake VA yet confirming their interview time? I sent an email with available times Monday and haven't heard back yet.

Thanks. I had offered tomorrow as one of my available times but hadn't heard back. I sent a follow-up email and got a quick response. I'm good to go for next week. Good luck tomorrow!
 
I got a rejection from Astor...I'm not surprised after the flubbed email
 
No news for me today. I guess I should be happy that I have four interviews at great sites and move on with my life.

I'm tempted to say the same thing...except that nobody's heard from several of my favorite Phase 2 sites--I'm not sure what that means!! Among others I'm still very curious about: Mailman/UMiami, Tulane SOM, and Children's Institute Inc.
It seems like they must just be interviewing people not on SDN...right??
 
I should say that I'm not meaning to complain or sound ungrateful for the wonderful interviews I have--although I'm not confident about matching by any means, I'd be satisfied with any of the sites where I have interviews! Just not sure whether or not I should still be waiting anxiously for more news...

In previous years mailman and tulane had phase 2 spots. it looked like they notified over what would be this weekend/monday. so fingers cross. I have 1 interview but its at the place that I interviewed phase 1 and they emailed me and told me they really liked me and wanted me to apply for phase 2.... so its promising!

Nebraska VA - You're still on our ranking list but not getting an interview, received mass email today
Southern Il CAPS - interview invite earlier this week
Western Kentucky - email yesterday
New Mexico - call yesterday

You'll be great! I like to think about it as an opportunity to chat for half an hour with someone else who is just as excited about psychology as I am. Oh, and I get to talk about myself--who doesn't like talking about themself? 🙂
 
this is so stressful! what if they ask me questions I don't know the answers to? what if I freeze and forget all my grad school experiences and training? what if my voice quivers? What if they don't like me?? It's hard to have confidence going into phase 2 after the horror that was phase 1 🙁. Maybe this is just first interview jitters...

I had the same thoughts going in to my first interview today, but it ended up being a really great conversation. The DCT spent most of the time just talking about the program and having me ask questions. I only had a couple legit questions I needed to answer (what attracted you to this program, future goals, etc.). You'll do great!

this sounds like a dream interview! In my mind, I'm about to be put on trial lol
