2013-2014 APPIC (internship) Phase II

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
this sounds like a dream interview! In my mind, I'm about to be put on trial lol
Remember that with phone interviews you can have notes in front of you if you want--probably not the best idea to be reading off of the paper or anything, but you could have some bullet point reminders of questions you wanted to ask, experiences you wanted to highlight, or cases you wanted to mention. A nice benefit of them not being able to see you! 🙂

Thanks! I have questions prepared, it's just not knowing what they're going to ask that's dysregulating. Hopefully it'll be more conversational rather than an inquisition.

Still waiting on

University of Vermont
Orlando VA
Bronx VA
Nebraska Internship Consortium (BSDC)
Jesse Brown
Pacific Clinics

--any news on those?

Also, I got an interview at VA Puget Sound - American Lake, but I still haven't gotten a time slot confirmed, and I sent an email and never got a response. Getting nervous, since two out of my four times were for tomorrow. I'm assuming I'm interviewing on Thursday then, but it'd be nice to know for sure.

I think Pacific Clinics and Nebraska Internship Consortium have already extended invites, though I'm not sure about those tracks specifically. I know that I am assuming a no for Pacific Clinics in the child track...

I was in a similar situation with American Lake. I emailed them again yesterday and got a quick response, and there didn't seem to be any hint of annoyance that I was bothering them. I wouldn't stress about it too much since it seems like they are taking time to get back to people overall, and if you don't hear anything soon maybe you could just make a follow-up call.

Bsdc had interviews earlier this week

Atlanta VA rejection:

Thank you for your Phase II application to the internship program at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. We received 178 applications for our 1 unfilled position, and we are interviewing 11 applicants. We have finalized our decisions regarding whom to invite for an interview and include in our final Phase II rankings, and I'm sorry to inform you that your name is not on the list. The decisions are not always easy, but in this limited time period for Phase II we had to make them quickly. We made substantial cuts based solely on numbers, including intervention hours, numbers of integrated reports, and experience with basic cognitive and personality assessment tools. We realize that we undoubtedly miss out on many quality applicants by doing this, but it allows us to spend more time with each remaining application and help determine fit between our training model and applicants’ interests and experience.

Good luck with the process and in the future. Our VA has hired many psychologists who did not get interviews when they applied here for internship (or did not match at all the first year they applied), so our paths may very well cross again.

Rejection from the Atlanta VA. Invitation to the Orlando VA. Busy morning already!

Got an interview at nationwide children's hospital. Will be sending me a time slot for next week. On the less positive side, not sure my phone call with the mn children's hospital TD went so hot. Oh well... *belts* Let it go...

Congrats on nationwide. I'm sure your mn TD chat went better than you think

"Dear Applicant" interview invite email from Southeast Human Services in Fargo, ND!!! Seems to be a mass email. Good luck today everyone!!!

I've got my first two interviews today at 9am pac time and 12 pac time, with University of North Dakota and College of William/Mary respectively. Hella nervous to say the least lol :/ Phase I experiences are triggering!

I got the same thing but I have to say I really appreciated how nice and honest they were in admitting how they made cuts based on the time sensitivity. It made me it feel less like they rejected me personally. Respect

Got one of these too. I agree, I'm glad they openly admitted it but I put so much time into cover letters. I wish there was some way to like pre-apply w/o spending that kind of time and if you pass their initial screen THEN submit a cover letter. A girl can dream.

There is actually an article that suggests the internship application process use that exact method (applicants indicate which sites interest them and give their basic stats, sites tell them if they should apply or not, then applicants write and submit their apps) .

Congrats! You will do great. Just stay calm and be yourself 🙂

I received this too. At least they were nice enough to send an email, but not a fun email to wake up to.

Also got a Nationwide rejection this morning.... not a great thing to read right before my first interview, but oh well. At least they sent something. I am still waiting on one site, with two more who haven't said anything to me, but have invited others (so I am assuming no on those). Looking forward to the end of this process.

Phew. American Lake finally got back to me. They gave me a date and time I did not ask for, but thankfully I was able to make it work. My friend who is also interviewing there had the same problem, but she couldn't change her schedule. :/ I guess everyone wants the same times!

Just received a personalized invite for interview with the Texas Valley VA! And also got the Atlanta rejection. Agree with everyone about it being a nice email and an unfortunate process. I'm beginning to believe that APPIC/Match reform begins with Phase IIers...

Just got a mass rejection from Pacific Clinics. I applied to the adult track. Oh well 🙁

Mass rejection from Pacific Clinics:
"From the desk of Dr. Beth Jenks-
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the Psychology Internship Program at Pacific Clinics. Our staff appreciates the time and energy that you have placed into the APPIC application process.
We received an overwhelming number of applications for the positions we have available through Phase II of the match. We are able to interview relatively few applicants compared to the number of applications received. We have reviewed your application materials and regrettably are unable to offer you an interview for our program.
We wish you the best in your search for an internship match.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jenks"

[I applied to the adult track, although it doesn't specify]

Ugh. These rejections are so tough. Still waiting for about five or six more sites including the Alaska consortium. Has anyone else applied there?

Just got the same thing. Bummer.

Rejection form Atlanta VA and Nationwide this morning. Sigh...at least the Atlanta rejection was gentle. Lol

Interviews are done for the day for me. Now to prepare for my Skype interview on Monday. Did anyone else ever interview over Skype?
