on hold since january, Really enjoyed the school, been accepted in other places, but still strongly considering downstate. Has anyone been accepted of a hold lately?

oyyy i interviewed first week march too haven't heard yet now i'm going to be anxiously checking my e-mail. i'm sick of wait lists pleaaaaaseeee no spring consideration!! 🙂

Congrats! I interviewed back in november , downstate is a great school! in the past, I applied to the school's early medical education program as a sophomore and although I was not accepted, I am still crossing my fingers to be accepted this time around!

I was considering to send a letter of updates/intent in a few weeks, but I didn't know that they are already pulling people off from the hold list. I would like to know about this as well.
 
did you get a background check email before getting your acceptance via mail?

Any current students here been through Operation Success? I know there must be no bearing on your actual semester grades, but will there be exams/an expectation to study or is the time commitment really only 9-5 classes?
 
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum so thanks in advance for your help. I was just wondering if SUNY Downstate ranks their students despite 1st and 2nd year being Pass/Fail.
 
Does everyone who gets wait list e-mail also get asked for Spring grades? Because if it's like Fall grades, it makes me feel like they won't look at my app again until Spring grades come in end of May
 
So, safe to assume a pre-interview "hold for spring consideration" is a rejection at this point?
 
Got my acceptance package via snail mail today! Interviewed 3/19. Leaning more towards another school though, so I may be withdrawing soon.

Long time lurker, first post here. I was just wondering. I received "Hold for Spring Consideration" post interview. Is there a difference between this and the "Hold" list? Or are they the same? I'm pretty confused. Does the "Hold for Spring Consideration" mean a prolonged decision?

Also is there anyone who received the "Hold for Spring Consideration" and heard anything back? Thanks in advance!

Hold = hold for spring consideration

There's an alternate list, if I remember correctly from the last year's thread, after you get hold for spring consideration (and don't get accepted or rejected after being hold). I think one of SDNers got accepted off from hold, but I think many others are in silence until mid May or later.
 
Is anyone here in the Downstate facebook group? Is anything useful posted there?

I don't have FB and would like to know if it is worth creating a FB account just to join the Downstate group? Thanks

Not really that worth it. Mostly people just asking about living on campus vs. off campus and stuff. I mean if you have any burning questions you should definitely join because there are a lot of MS1s and 2s there willing to answer questions.
 
They should be getting to applicants who reviewed around late march by this week right?

have people that were on hold for spring review post interview been put on the alternate list yet? i just called admissions asking about movement off the hold for spring review list, and the person said that people have already been placed on the alternate list. i havent received an email yet. has anyone else? thanks.
 
Just called, never knew the people in admissions were so nice! Will hurt if I don't get in.
 
No, sorry. I asked him for the status of my application since I only interviewed about a month ago and he looked up my amcas id and told me when my application is going to be presented to the committee, and when I should hear back. He mentioned a meeting scheduled for May 14th and said typically a person gets a decision in the mail 5-7 days later.

I am not sure but isn't the alternate list created after May 15th when they start to get a clear picture of who declines and accepts? I'm on hold as well but haven't heard any news or emails about an alternate list. Keep hope alive!

I haven't received any email from SUNY since being placed on hold for spring consideration post interview. Interviewed 12/16/13. And got the hold email about 2 months later. Silence since

Last year I was placed on the "hold for spring consideration" list after I interviewed in February. At the time, I thought this was below the alt-list in terms of priority. However, on May 15th, I got an acceptance call without moving up to the alt-list first and was pretty surprised! I think based on movement from previous years, spring just means May 15th and after when people have decided what they are going to do with their acceptances.

Hold for spring consideration is just their waitlist. What I never figured out was the alternative list, as (based on sdn responses from last year), fewer people seemed to be drawn from that than just from hold for spring consideration list. Still, that's just based on people who posted, so I don't really know.

Yes there is ranking. Its based on clinical rotation (3rd year) grades only.
Yes there is AOA. Someone told would be based on STEP1, clinical rotations, and leadership. Waiting for verification, but I've heard this from several sources
Yes there are actual grades on exams. These are only to determine P/F, or if you manage to have a 90 average on all of your exams through the first two years "Foundations with distinction." This would then show up on your Dean's letter.
 
interviewed 3/24. "hold for spring consideration" today. glad i'm not rejected, even though i interviewed so late. there's still a chance! 🙂 ACCEPT MEE DOWNSTATE

Interviewed 3/20, no email or mail since. Called the admissions office today and they said that I would have to wait for my decision to be mailed to me. Are they mailing both rejections and acceptances?

From what I've seen on this thread people only seem to get emails when they get get put on hold or they get an email for a background check. And admissions told me something should come in the mail 3 to 5 days after they decide on the app.

I am in an absolutely terrible panic. I have had an unconventional college career in that I've moved around a lot, but I have always updated my current address on my official AMCAS application. I assumed that medical schools would use this to send letters of acceptance/rejection. I never directly emailed SUNY Downstate with my change in addresses.

I was originally put on "Hold for Spring," but received a Certiphi background check email last January. I didn't think much of the Certiphi email until coming here and seeing that it is essentially an email of acceptance. I am terrified that my physical acceptance letter has expired in a stack of letters piling up in my University of Dallas mailbox (which I haven't checked for months since I graduated a semester early and now live in Nebraska). The UD mail center is closed on Sunday. There is absolutely no way of checking it today.

Is my fretting all for naught? My other acceptance letters required a response within two weeks of getting the acceptance offer. Do you know if SUNY Downstate has a similar policy? Is my acceptance expired? This would be a true nightmare, as Downstate is overwhelmingly my number one choice and I think I may have managed to blow it.

I really brought this upon myself. I should have emailed the admissions committee directly. Please let me know if you can ease my anxiety.

Pick up the phone and call them! Just ask them the status of your application and see what they say.
 
Withdrew my acceptance today. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!!
