25+ should get you in somewhere since you are an URM African American male... Average stats for African American last year was 3.3cGPA, 3.1sGPA and 23 mcat.

Are applying to MD as well? If not, retake is not necessary unless your score is not balanced...

Is 3.65/3.54/25 underdog?? I applied to 7 schools....is that enough?

No it isn't underdog, especially this early in the cycle. You have the same GPA and MCAT I did last cycle, and your science GPA is higher then mine. Definitely add LMU, and seriously consider Marian.

Add me:

Non-trad

3.84 AACOMAS sciGPA
3.75 overall GPA

MCAT: 23 (PS: 8, VR: 6, BS:9)...retake in works

Solids ECs (mix of clinical research, patient care, a lot of shadowing)

500 hrs clinical research
350 hrs shadowing 5 different specialties
300 hrs clinical volunteering
2 jobs in undergrad

Apparently great PS

Applied to 11 DO (lower tiered, newer DO)

JUST 1 INTERVIEW PLEASE!

A 3.3/3.0.26 is rejection city tbh. Plenty if people on here with stats similar to that needed scores in the high 20s low 30s to get in. He's going to need to do a decent amount of retaking.

I wouldn't call it rejection city. I'd call it borderline...

With a 26 mcat ud b in waitlist city imo. Shoot for a 28 or higher to be competitive.

There we go, waitlist city sounds about right. They could very well get accepted off of a waitlist with those scores, but having a 27-29 will put them in a much better position.

Ok..didn't apply to those two. DMU is my 1st choice (I live in Des Moines already with family and friends here)...applied to LECOM, kcumb, KCOM, RVU, and UNE...

UNECOM is pretty regionally bias. The rest of your list looks fine, but I would add Marian and the Touros that Serenade mentioned (although TouroNY is kind of MCAT heavy).

Yup, it's what can bridge the gap between interview and acceptance. But generally to get an interview you need decent stats so the school feels they won't have at risk student when the boards come around.

That is absolutely true. That being said, people with 26 and that poster's stats have had interviews before, especially if they applied early.

Consider adding Marion in Indianapolis to help round out your list.

MariAn... it happens to the best of us.

Ha! Now I feel bad, I interviewed there and everything. I just checked my secondary, and thank god I put Marian on that instead of Marion. Lol

Count me in, too!

Background: Applying for the second time, sitting on one MD waitlist that appears to be going nowhere. 🙁 Because of that and my background as a non-trad, my limited finances, and the fact that I did my post-bacc at a community college, I feel that I qualify as an underdog.

Last year, I submitted my primary apps fairly late (late July for AMCAS, early August for AACOMAS). I paid for 20+ schools and ended up running out of money for secondaries. My parents came through with a small loan right before the deadlines for five schools and I was able to complete those in December. I ended up with four MD apps and one DO app (PCOM) complete. Got two interviews in March, both MD, and was rejected by one and waitlisted at the other in April.

This time, I submitted AMCAS on 6/18 and AACOMAS on 6/22. I have a zero-interest credit card at the ready.

MCAT: 30Q, balanced
cGPA: 3.45 (approx)
sGPA: 4.0
- two years working as a hospital tech in med-surg and in the OR
- long career as a writer with numerous awards
- 275+ hours volunteering in hospital ER
- 1000+ other volunteer/community service hours, non-medical

I applied to PCOM in Philly, LECOM-Bradenton, CCOM, Nova Southeastern and Rowan (formerly UMDNJ-SOM).

Good luck everyone!

This is an underdog thread.

There's a line. My ECs saved me for DO, but even if I had started early I don't think they would have done anything for me for my MD apps.

Ok, while contemplating adding more schools I am wondering if it is a bad idea to wait until I know if I am being interviewed even at DMU.....I don't want to spend too much money applying to schools if I have a shot at DMU.

Will it be too late in the cycle for me if i wait to add more schools until I know about DMU?

if LUCOM indeed starts taking applications this year, pretty much anyone on this thread should be able to get in.

Not everyone is willing to sell their soul tho

I'm just gonna throw this question out there: What schools do I remotely have a chance at with 3.77, 3.70, 24, and slightly above average ECs? I am retaking that MCAT, I'm terrified I won't improve my score that much (at all). Obviously hoping do to well, but....

You have a chance at quite a few schools. With your GPA I don't think you're too much of an underdog, even with your 24 MCAT. Apply broadly to DO schools. I wouldn't retake the MCAT in your shoes, unless you want to shoot for MD, which would be well within your reach with a 30+.

I thought the Touros were looking for high MCAT scores?

Touro Nevada has a cutoff at 25 and Touro NY usually likes bigger MCAT scores from what I remember.

Touro CA?

Touro-NV also has a 25-26 average

Touro-NY is 27, but they like bio scores.

I'm curious about this. A 24 isn't great, even for DO schools. But this is third time I've seen advice against retaking. Why is that?

RVU, VCOM (both), LECOM, CUSOM, MUCOM, ACOM for being competitive and then any other school you have decent chance at outside of say PCOM, CCOM, Western, and Touro CA and the state schools.

I'm very curious just how many people/ applicants there are this year. My school finished writing committee letters at almost lightening speed this cycle, so I'm thinking we're seeing record lows in applicant density.

Haha Serenade, you really want this cycle to be easier than the last, huh.

He does like to come up with random conclusions.

Well, if it is any indication, the AMCAS app is going to be crazy this year. They are still verifying people that turned theirs in 6/12, the 3rd day it was open for submission.

I also know more people applying MD with DOs as a backup. It is apparently the very popular thing to do this year so we may have to compete with 3.7+ GPAs and 30+ MCATs for the people that are paranoid about not getting into an MD.

Boo hoo, I hurt your feelings in another thread and now you feel like calling me out. Grow up, k?

You made things up in another thread based on anecdotes which I proved to be lies, and now you're making these other claims here. Only reason I'm responding is so readers don't take what advice or opinions your giving at face value.

Not really, you made a piss poor and overly emotional argument after I peacefully told you to ignore my post until I could find the document that supported me ( Likewise I offered you people to message who have stated similar things to my comment and may actually have such statistical documents saved on their computers). Regardless, you're free to stew in your superiority soup.

Again with jumping to false conclusions. I'm not going to defend any personal issues you have with me, but rest assured ill be here to call things out. 👍

I have no personal issues with you? And have fun with that.
