2013-2014 University of North Dakota Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
WillburCobb, would you please continue updating us whenever you hear something? Thank you so much for your infor!!

The non-INMED acceptance/wait list letters have always come out before INMED interviews have started, so I don't know why they would suddenly change. I do know that the committee has voted and all the interviewees have been ranked so I would still expect notifications next week based on past years.

I got the impression that everything regular admission happens before INMED. INMED is it's own separate 7 seats. I emailed awhile back because I hadn't heard anything and was informed that as soon as regular admission candidates were completed then the INMED stack would be sifted through. Hoping you guys don't have to wait until we're done. Good luck everyone!!!

Well, my sources have dried up some due to staff changes in administration over the past year; but what I can confirm is that decisions have (for sure) been made and letters/e-mails should be out sometime this week.

WillburCobb I can second that because I called last Thursday and they said the emails would "likely" be sent out this week (I am praying that the "likely" was more of a "sure-thing")

Checking my e-mail has become a nerve-racking affair. I sure hope this is over soon! However, it is comforting to read updates from everyone else throughout this process. Thanks guys!

The draft of the acceptance letter was given to the Dean for his final approval today, so letters should be ready to go in the next couple of days. Also, letters are going out via e-mail with a hard copy following in regular mail.

Thank you for all of you guys' support and update. Knowing what's happening really helps!

And you said your sources dried up 😉

So apparently med school classes are canceled tomorrow due to the pending blizzard… which means the admissions office is probably closed. I'm still praying for Friday but now we may expect further delays. Glorious

Yeah I was gonna just let you guys know I got the text alert that UND is closed tomorrow

...and the Dean is out of town Friday. So unless everything was taken care of Wednesday I wouldn't expect anything until maybe next Tuesday at the earliest. Looks like a repeat of last year...

Long time lurker with a couple of (possibly idiotic) questions! If we haven't heard anything, is this most likely a rejection or is there still any sliver of hope? Someone mentioned that the 25th is for INMED interviews, but is there any chance they'll interview other candidates that date as well? Thanks in advance, and good luck to all of you! 🙂

I really hate to say this, and hope I'm wrong, but I want to say INMED is purposefully the last group to get analyzed. We were the last applicants to get our applications reviewed (at least this is what the INMED adcom told me). Sorry 🙁

Editing to add: We are all doing this big planned 2 day event spanning the 24th and the 25th geared toward INMED only applicants.

Unfortunately yes. All regular interviews are done. It's pathetic you haven't received anything, the old admissions staff would have been on top of that and you would have received a notification back in November.

Where are people planning on living? Any recommendations on apartments semi close to campus?

I lived in the pines for a while. It's a nice apartment complex with reasonable rate. There also is a bus stop close you can take to get to campus

Campus place is nice as well.

My fiancé is a second year at UND med and when I went up to GF to help him find an apartment we checked out some major dives. He ended up in the Mallview apartments (they are on the spendy side but brand new with underground garage and not far from the school). If you go in with a roommate the prices are manageable. I would check out Oxford realty because they are also opening up some other new buildings. Just be careful when you check places out because there are some very questionable properties. We went into a rental (the owner was actually a local physician) and the bathroom ceiling was a mess of rusting pipes and mold… Just play it safe

I'd advise contacting the admissions office if it's urgent you hear back. If not, I doubt they will wait long to release the wait list. Last year the wait list and acceptance notifications went out at the same time. My uniformed assumption would be that they aren't emailing the wait list positions, and they'd come out sometime this week alongside the acceptance letters.

Keep in mind I don't believe they reject anyone, but wait list movement isn't extensive since most choose to matriculate.

Wish you the best my friend.

From the looks of things, I am assuming that all the acceptance notifications have been sent out (but I may be wrong).

Does anyone know when/how long it will take the wait list and rejection list to come out?

I ask because I plan on making a transition into my backup plan until I apply to medical school again if I were rejected. This will involve processes that I would like to know about and get started on soon, such as ending apartment lease (UND requires 60 day notice), applying for jobs, moving, planning on making payments on student loans, telling family and friends I didn't get in, etc.

Keep the thread informed, I am sure you are not the only one in this situation.....😉

Thanks, since I am sure someone will ask, did they clarify whether all initial acceptances were given?

I got an email sent out at 1:37p from admissions saying, "You are very high up on the waitlist and we will let you know early next week exactly what position you hold on the waitlist."

Did anyone get a response something different, such as "you are very low/low/high...?"

Does very high up mean close to the top or bottom of the list?

Oh goodness! How frustrating! I hope you hear something more definitive soon.

I got an email today saying I need to have a background check, anyone else get one from "certihpi"?

That's not true. I interviewed on the 25th through INMED and there were at least three candidates not associated with INMED interviewing that day, probably more since I was only with a fraction of the individuals applying that day. There were 20 INMED students that interviewed this round for 6 seats. There are usually 7 seats but due to some mishap last year the seat was saved for a student from the 2012-2013 application cycle.

Good news though, I got accepted! The turn around was real quick. Two days after my interview i received my acceptance email. Is there a facebook page for the class of 2018?

I was aware of those 3 (there were only 3 FYI) - it's an odd exception that I didn't bring-up, as I only know limited details regarding their circumstance, and I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up or to start speculations. The iis went out to those three a while back as well so it's not like a second review type thing.

Wait were you INMED or not? They told us all Friday for INMED applicants.

INMED decisions are out. Unfortunately, there are only 7 seats and I'm towards the end on the wait list. 🙁

Certiphi is the background check screening process used by AMCAS, and therefore, many medical schools including UNDSMHS. Once you are conditionally waitlisted or accepted they will send them out, seemingly randomly but soon after, to check on your legal history (e.g. sexual offender lists, etc). It takes 5-10 minutes to complete the submission form and only takes a couple days or less to get back. You check your history to make sure it is accurate and then you submit it to your schools. It is pretty straightforward and you only have to do this once.

Does that mean several spots in the 2018 class were put 'on hold' to accomodate those 3 individuals if they were to be accepted, or were they essentially interviewing for the waitlist?

Congrats to all those accepted so far!
