2013-2014 Wake Forest Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What I was trying to find out is if the pre-secondary screen is still in effect this year. Another SDN-er brought up a good point: nobody seems to have been rejected pre-secondary this year (at least, nobody on SDN has posted about it; I know SDNers are a small % of the total applicant pool). Just curious if that pre-secondary screen is still ongoing/ as stringent as it has been in the past. Thanks for the response/information, though! 🙂

Since it sounds like nobody on this thread has intimate knowledge of a policy change, how about we phrase the question like this:

Is there anyone still reading this who has not received a secondary? If so, when was your primary verified?

I ask because the pre-secondary rejection could be silent. Given that no one's complained about not receiving a secondary, I agree it sounds like the screen has stopped or has at least become less stringent.

If you received a secondary, then you have a 20-23% chance to receive an interview invite. I think someone posted the exact numbers of applications/secondaries/interview invites/acceptances (either from MSAR, school website, info from interview day, etc) somewhere earlier in either this thread or last year's.

Ah, here we go:
7,400 primary applications submitted
2,450 secondary applications submitted
540 interviews
225 accepted
120 matriculated.

These were posted in this year's thread (where the guy got it from the 2012-13 thread). That means these numbers are probably from the 2011-2012 cycle. Still, the percentages are probably around the same.
Yeah i saw that in last years thread. I think they've done away with it though because in last years thread there were also posts about rejections. People had status changes that said final communication was going to be sent to them.

Idk though, maybe people just aren't reporting them this year

aw man! I was sooo excited when I got this secondary 🙁

I can access it. I only submitted a few days ago. It just has the same "your secondary has been received..." message. Unfortunately nothing has changed 🙁

On that note. Does Wake ever update your status for when you are 'complete'?

I know me too lol but since there haven't been any rejections, i think its probably done away with. But like i said, maybe people aren't reporting it

Received II on 10/16 but didn't schedule it until December because I wanted to schedule it over break so I didn't miss more class. I hope I didn't make a mistake scheduling it so far out.

I applied to wake unsuccessfully in 2011; at that time I was notified I would not be receiving a secondary. Based off that, and last year's thread echoing the same sort of notification, I doubt they've moved to silent pre-secondary rejections. Perhaps they've done away with it all together? I guess only time will tell! Either way, still grateful for the consideration this year!

Congrats! Could I hassle you for your complete date?

What was the first date offered to you? I got an invite just a week before you did, and there were only 2 dates available during the last week of Nov, so it most likely won't make a difference!

That's good to know. I told her at the beginning of our conversation that I wanted for it to be scheduled during break, if at all possible. So, she really didn't get a chance to offer me any dates.

As far as the secondary screen goes, this is still posted on their website:

"Upon receipt of the AMCAS application, the Committee on Admissions evaluates each applicant. Those who cannot be interviewed are notified. Other applicants receive a Secondary Application before Dec. 15. Completion of the secondary application requires a $100 nonrefundable processing fee, along with a premed committee evaluation or a minimum of two letters of recommendation"

It sounds like they still have a screen? I'm just confused now. Has anybody called the office to ask? I might do that tomorrow just to set my mind at ease. 🙂

Secondary received and complete 8/12, still no rejection or II... making me nervous.

Secondary finally marked complete today.

Submitted 10/14.

Official 3 monthiversary of being complete at Wake!

Only 3 more months until the rejection!

Halfway there

Finally? Haha, it was only 9 days since you submitted! That's pretty good, in my book. Best of luck - Wake Forest is excellent.

Really? Many of the schools I applied to marked me complete the day of or day after submission because my letters were already submitted...

I'm really just glad to see some recognition of my app. I've visited the school before and talked with some students and absolutely loved everything I saw/heard there.

Does anyone know if we get updated about waitlist movement every time the committee meets or do we just get notified if we get accepted/rejected off the list?

That seems really rare. For the schools I applied to, it ranged b/t 1-5 weeks. Most schools were on the longer end of things. Maybe it was my choice of schools

I would imagine the latter, though I doubt we'll be rejected anytime soon. If they wanted to reject us now, it would have already happened.

this thread has been so quiet 🙁... really hoping for an II here!

Does anyone know if there is a certain date, of a after a certain date, that we can expect to hear about the wait list movement?

II this morning! I got the email around 10:30 🙂

Also got in II this morning. They are scheduling for December and had availability starting with the beginning of the month. I was complete 7/22

It looks like they do II the first Friday of ever month which means another month until more 🙁

are you sure? There were people on this thread earlier that got IIs on days other than the first Friday (like 10/11 and 10/16).

That can't be right because I was extended an interview on August 20th.

oh hm, looks like I was wrong! that's good news😳

I'm really hoping for an II here as well. I was complete on 10/23. Looks like they are going in order of complete date? When were you complete?

nope not in order of completion. o was complete 10/23 as well and got an ii today

the two people that just got IIs were complete 7/22 and 9/22.. doesn't seem to be in order

I called the admissioin office this morning about the pre-secondary screen. They still screen out the applicants for the secondary applications, but so far no one have came forward that they didn't receive the secondary just wondering how many applicants have received the secondary . I submitted my seconday the beginning of September, no II yet, cross my fingers.

I got an interview invite for the MSTP program Oct 28th. Was complete 9/24. Interviewing this Wednesday and Thursday (6-7th). Anyone have any tips for/experience with the medical school interviews?

Since previously it was mentioned that Wake Forest loves letters of interest post-interview, is it a good idea to send one before any interview invites? I know this has been asked a lot and I wouldn't do it as a general rule, but maybe WF is specifically receptive to them. I've only been complete since 10/10 but I'm getting anxious because I've only had one II so far this cycle....

I also have a question about the Wake Forest interview process!!
The II info in the email and on the site are extremely non descriptive, so can someone shed some light? Number of interviews? Laid back? Ethics questions or more personal and academic? Etc? Anything? drowning in nerves.

There are three, 20 minute interviews. Mine were all very conversational. The interviewers had clearly read both my AMCAS application and secondary essays, and occasionally asked me to elaborate on some activity. There were no off-the-wall questions, stress tests, or any other shenanigans. Everyone was incredibly friendly!

Good luck!

That sounds awesome! I'm expecting it to be a stressful day, since I have medical school interviews all morning and then grad school interviews all afternoon. It's too bad they don't combine them into one set of MD/PhD interviews

I have no idea if my experience holds true for the MTSP interviews.
