How much of an underdog is a 3.3/26?

I don't think they say 24 is competitive but they say a 24 is where you start getting into the competitive range.

That is what it says on their websites. But yes I think that is what they mean, not that it is a score that will impress anyone but that it will get your app looked at.

I struggled with verbal too.. I couldn't tell you for sure if it will keep you from getting in but ik some schools do have minimum scores in each section so do a little research on the schools your looking at before you apply.

On a side note good job on your MCAT! That's an awesome improvement! It sounds like your solid with your sciences so if you end up retaking it just buy a study book with practice verbal tests and do a LOT of practice tests. It will take some time to really get used to the verbal passages since you can't really study for them but you will get the hang of it.. 🙂. Regardless congrats and I wish you luck.

I found the best advice for taking the MCAT is to NOT PANIC. I know a lot of my friends had great practice test scores but froze up on the real test, resulting in a 5-8 point drop

I struggled with verbal too.. I couldn't tell you for sure if it will keep you from getting in but ik some schools do have minimum scores in each section so do a little research on the schools your looking at before you apply.

On a side note good job on your MCAT! That's an awesome improvement! It sounds like your solid with your sciences so if you end up retaking it just buy a study book with practice verbal tests and do a LOT of practice tests. It will take some time to really get used to the verbal passages since you can't really study for them but you will get the hang of it.. 🙂. Regardless congrats and I wish you luck.

It was actually my number 1 choice out of the schools I applied to, so I was pretty excited! And since I deferred acceptance I got my number one choice on CHC site!

Thanks! I definitely agree with the don't panic advice. This time around I really focused on controlling my mood and emotions in the few weeks leading up to the test. Make sure you don't stress yourself out too much. Here's what helped me out when studying:

1. Don't use someone else's schedule! Things like SN2 are a waste of time IMO. Make a triage list of what subjects you're weakest on (AAMC self assessments are great for this) and focus on those. I knew I was weak on chemistry so 90% of my content review was spent just doing chemistry. Know your strengths and weaknesses before you come up with a schedule.

2. EK and Chad's vids are the way to go. These were the only sources I used when studying and I think that was a great decision. Everything else goes way too in depth for what the MCAT actually tests. TBR in particular is huuuuuuuuge waste of time and I think it's the absolute worst possible way to study for the MCAT.

3. Taking practice tests and reviewing them is where I saw the most improvement in my score. I treated the AAMC tests like a test bank. I would go over every test I've ever taken every other night or so until I could routinely score a 45 on all of them. There's a finite number of topics on the MCAT and the AAMC tests cover 90% of what you'll encounter on game day.

4. For verbal, you should be trying a new strategy every other week or so until you start getting the scores you want. I ended up trying a new strategy 2 weeks before my test and ended up scoring a 13 on the real thing. Definitely don't be afraid to radically change your strategy as you go.
