2015-2016 SUNY - Buffalo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think this year might come a bit earlier. probably mid April for tier 1, also for tier 2. When we interviewed (same day I'm assuming) Dr. Severin said he is planning to take people off waitlist starting early april maybe even at the end of March, which also seem right since both Dr. Severin and Mr. Rosso both said that they're not going to interview as many as previous years.

Are you saying they're done giving out interviews?

interesting- did they say why?

No, I don't think they are done giving out interview invites at this very moment. I know people that got invites within a week before the actual interview. I personally think the interviews will go at least to the last week of March. But this is only an assumption.

not that I remembered. I just know for sure (at least what they said) that this year had 200 more applicants than last year, but they're not going to interview as many people (last year was around 600). Once again they didn't give exact numbers. So when he said around 600 that can be a pretty broad number, at the very least plus and minus 50. And when they said not as many, one less student compare to last year will still be considered not as many.

Lol not gonna like this is kinda weird. Rejected here for MSTP the same week that I was accepted to a top 10 school. This process is so random it kills

Well the earlier the better as far as I'm concerned.

well that answer our earlier assumption, they are interviewing into mid April!

Does anyone know when we're supposed to receive our financial aid letters? I can't remember if that was ever mentioned on my interview day.

woa wieird. Just got an interview invite for April 20th. Def wasn't expecting anything more at this point.

I also think this is the last day they are interviewing. oh man, does this mean no more interviews. omg.

I'm guessing chances for II now are slim, but not all hope is lost. A lot of people are set at this point and might not want to travel for the interview. Depending on how many withdraw, some last minute interview spots may still be available!

Buffalo, you're the only school I want to go. Please hear me when I say I really want an interview here please

>50% chance I will withdraw my interview invitation by tomorrow. Depends on my finances and a few other things. I sincerely hope that if I withdrew, my invite will go out to you. Bear in mind that it is so late in the game, most people have acceptances elsewhere so interview spots will open up as people cancel on them. Don't lose hope.

Thank you so much. I haven't received an interview anywhere and this is my third cycle. After researching about buffalo, and New York being my home state, this is the only school I want to go to. Thank you for your positive words. I was crying earlier and this really made me feel better. I assume you've been accepted elsewhere - congratulations to you!

Hey, congratulations! There is no second look, however there is a Housing Day sometime in June I believe. Also, I already had a UB ID so I didn't have to wait to pay (though I still paid via check), but the e-mail containing details to pay online came ~6 days after the acceptance e-mail. This was back in October though, and the timeline could have changed.

I think I'm going to mail it in as well, did they email you to let you know once they received it??

Does anyone know what percentage of waitlisted applicants are offered a seat?

I've been told that they used to accept the top 2/3 of the wait list but in the last couple years they've only gone through the top 1/3.

What kinds of questions do they like to ask during the interview? I hear they ask a lot about extracurriculars. Is it heavy on shadowing experience or volunteer work, etc? Or more focus on reasoning questions?

I was asked mostly about my ECs- what I learned, what my motivations were for doing each, etc. Each interviewer asked an ethical question as well, and had follow-up questions to my answers. This is the experience of most people on my interview day, save for some who said they were grilled on ethical questions. Good luck on your interview!

anyone know the attendance policy for lectures/if they are recorded?

For waitlisted students, would a letter of interest be recommended? I've been waitlisted before elsewhere during the 2014-2015 cycle and didn't send any letters of interest only to be alternate listed and denied eventually. In your opinion would this be helpful for UB or should I just be patient and let the admissions committee do their thing?
