2015-2016 SUNY - Buffalo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For waitlisted students, would a letter of interest be recommended? I've been waitlisted before elsewhere during the 2014-2015 cycle and didn't send any letters of interest only to be alternate listed and denied eventually. In your opinion would this be helpful for UB or should I just be patient and let the admissions committee do their thing?
Send a letter of INTENT, not interest

Unfortunately, for UB, they rank students post-interview based on point-value so I don't believe a letter or updates would be useful. From what I was told from the admissions office, they do not read updates/letters. 🙁

I'm sorry Azonto. Did they tell you that you were going to get your decision yesterday? Just wondering because I interviewed 4/6 and they told us it would be two weeks. Was your group told one week or was is a surprise?

Does anybody know which weekend is the Housing Weekend this year?

"Housing packets will be sent out to you several months in advance, they will have information about deadlines of registering for the event, please return your registration form by the deadline listed. Please follow the directions on the form, you may send it in as soon as you know if you will be attending the event. Make sure you don't miss the deadline."

Has anyone gotten this packet or submitted a registration form??

I think this week 4/20 is the last interview date...unless someone received II for 4/27. From previous years, 4/20 would seem more likely to be the last interview. In which case, the waitlist may start moving the end of this week

@GraduatedCylinder91 @mysturi0us

I hate to burst bubbles, but 27 April is the last day the admissions committee meet to determine the status of those who interview this Wednesday. After Four-twenty, UB is done with interviews for the year.

GL, and hopefully all y'all will have other steads

That is what I thought at first as well. But if you go back to last year thread (assuming this year is similar to last year's process), someone was accepted from the waitlist the day right after the last interview. But yes, there is a chance we will not hear back until the week after. Also, from what I heard, adcom already know your admission status by the end of the day before they leave because they have a meeting right after. So it does make sense that they would start pulling people off the waitlist to fill up any remaining open spots. Realistically, most people will not hear back until May/June, if ever.

But what do I know, I've been wrong before. So......

I believe they usually replace the people who have withdrawn before the interview cycle ends; hence, I know some people who have already been accepted via the waitlist. Generally, they exhaust a sizeable portion of the wait list, but last year only the top third were taken off.

*sigh* Here is to a year that the wait list flow like quicksilver.... and will not yield results like the year before us

*raises bottle of Stella Artois*

When can we contact admissions to learn our approximate position on the wait list?

Did anyone II yesterday? If so did they tell you when you'd hear back regarding your admissions status?

Hey guys and gals,

Not sure what to do and need some help. I just got accepted this morning off the waitlist and I can't figure out how to pay the deposit online. Where do you get the UB ID Login? Congratulations to all those accepted and best of luck to everyone still waiting!

You should receive another e-mail about that soon. I just checked my inbox and I received the login details about a week after my acceptance, but that could be quicker now as we're getting close to April 30th.

As a member of the wait list do we need to contact admissions indicating our continued interest in being accepted? Or are we just selected of the list as ranked?

Got put on the waitlist this morning. That makes 4. Ugh!

anyone know the attendance policy for lectures/if they are recorded?

Attendance is usually not mandatory for lectures(they're all recorded), but we do have weekly pathology labs, PBL sessions, and small group case studies that are mandatory.

@AromaticOreo thanks!

would you (or anyone else!) happen to know when the white coat ceremony is this year/when people generally move in? Is there an orientation week? Thanks!

I'm not sure of the date for this year, but it should be at about the same time as last year's orientation, which was around the 2nd week of August. There is an orientation that usually lasts about 2-3days with the white coat ceremony at the end of the first week. Our orientation ended on a Wednesday, so we had two days of class before the white coat ceremony. So we got our white coats about two hours after making our first cuts in anatomy lab...

I moved in about a week before orientation just to get settled into the Buffalo area, and I know a bunch of people who did the same thing.

Hi everyone! The official SDN UB Med school waitlist page is this: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...falo-suny-wait-list-thread-2015-2016.1166859/
Feel free to post on either the 2015-2016 UB thread about waitlists, acceptances, rejections, and withdrawing from WL or on the official Waitlist thread and I'll update the data accordingly! Let's hope we see lots of waitlist movement in the coming weeks, good luck! 🙂

I got accepted off the waitlist today!!!! I got the email from Mr. Rosso around noon. I interviewed and was waitlisted in mid-November. This is my first acceptance and I have never had a better feeling in my entire life. Good luck to everyone, don't give up hope!!

Interviewed April 6th. Waitlisted April 21st. Accepted May 1st!

Dangit. . I am so happy that yell are getting accepted but it bothers me so much that I may not be accepted because I am worried that this year maybe like last year.... I wonder if my interviewers thought that I had some irreconcilable flaw that put me where I am... I hate sounding so negative but at times it's so hard to remember that the decision wasn't personal or to not feel insulted.... :arghh:
