same here but I wonder if it'll help or just be thrown away 🙁

They don't take updates so I'd guess LOIs aren't all that welcome either. But I've no definitive evidence so, give them a call and ask? Maybe get your status too.

I'm thinking of sending a LOI at this point even though I haven't gotten an II
While calling to check on your status would be perfectly acceptable, I would not send a LOI pre-ii, as it is illogical to state your intent to attend before you have even been considered as an option. It would be similar to a hockey player sending a LOI to the Buffalo Sabres before the player knew whether or not he was eligible for the NHL draft. You applied to UB and took the time to fill out a secondary...they know you are interested. Trust me, I want a decision as well, but life is a waiting game unfortunately.

They could've meant letter of interest, not letter of intent. At least that's how I read the post [emoji3]

Good point! But since they don't accept updates pre-ii (which, if structured correctly, should end with your interest in the given school), I assume that they don't want anything pre-ii. Even post-ii, letters of intent/interest have no bearing on your acceptance/potential to move off of the waitlist.

The e-mail for the secondary explicitly says "DO NOT send us update material until after you are invited for an interview."

Well I believe this is the first reported pre-II rejection from Buffalo.

Here it comes everyone.
Every single time this happens I feel like the actor in Twister hanging on for dear life.

Finally rejected pre-II! lol complete 08/24. Good luck to everyone else!
Sorry to hear 🙁
Any chance it was by portal? or was it an actual email/ physical letter? I've had silence since August and I've basically given up on UB.

It was an email. I actually checked the portal right after and it said "SECONDARY APPLICATION RECEIVED" On the bright side it's one less school to stress about 🙂

This year, UB is taking their time. A professor told me that they are trying to recruit a delicate balance of students who will either: 1. Wear their UB white coat into Wegmans; 2. Leave their UB Med lunch bag on the table while 'studying', so that they can look up every half-second to see if any passerby is staring at the lunch bag; or 3. Walk around campus with their Littmann adorned over the neck (no...it doesn't matter if you know how to use it yet). UB wants no more than 2 of the aforementioned 3 in each student...so hopefully you can understand the delay. I kid, but I actually did have this conversation with some faculty this morning.

But in all seriousness, I have been 'accidentally' dropping 20's in front of the admissions office since August. Although it hasn't yielded any positive result, at least I can go throughout my day knowing that I have provided someone with a free lunch and iced coffee.

Thanks to you. I 've been buying lunch at Harriman. Food taste better when it's free!

Also II today! completed 10/26 interviewing 3/2

I'm just glad I could help. I'll stop by Harriman during your interview lunch session and pick up your tab. Why break tradition? It is bringing you good fortune!

Congrats and best of luck!

Doing interview reviews:

Everyone was so nice. Ok research. There is no university hospital technically. Faculty interviews seemed antagonistic about all my scientific research (Maybe the administration is not too supportive of student research). Buffalo is such a boring city. INCREDIBLY COLD IN SEPTEMBER.

Grade: C+

Undergraduate from UB, also applying here for medical school. UB actually loves research because this is a research-intensive university. I don't know why you have this feeling.

Maybe it's luck of the draw with whom you interview with. Definitely got some condescending remarks like I should be getting a PhD, MD's are useful and are here to serve society. As if MDs have never used a treatment that was discovered in the lab.

when is the last interview date

Pre-Interview Rejection,very beautifully written. OOS

I just received an II for March 9. (OOS)
I'm already accepted at another school, is it worth taking this interview? As in am I actually going to have a decent shot at a slot in the class or with an interview this late am I mostly just going for a spot on the waitlist?

Will you attend UB over the school that's already accepted you? If so, go for it! If not, then attending might not be a good use of your time. And Mr. Rosso has said before that even if you interview late, if they want you in their incoming class, they will accept you. Late interview =/= interviewing for the waitlist.

Thanks for the info. Based on my previous research it would be a hard decision between the two, but UB comes out ahead, though that could change after visiting. I just didn't want to make the trip up to Buffalo if I didn't have a chance at a spot.

Gotcha, no worries I understand! Good luck with the interview, and if you have any questions PM me/ask them on here - I'm very familiar with the area and the school.

I'm very tempted to call Mr. Russo and beg him for an interview. So tempted right now.

are the interviews open or closed file?

any other info greatly appreciate as well 🙂

Interviewed 1/27 wait listed

They told us interviews would continue through April.

so I just called them asking them where my application is in the cycle - I left a message on their machine - I hope they don't hate me for doing that but I do want to go here and just want an interview 🙁

edit: maybe I shouldn't have done that ugh.

Chocolate, don't worry!! Mr. Rosso is very kind and will probably call you back and give you the scoop. I had to call earlier in the season twice and he's very helpful.

Does anyone have an updated timeframe for the completion and opening of their new building? According to most of the press releases it seems this fall, however news sources construction updates seem to be pointing to next spring?

They told me they would move everything into the new building in the summer of 2017 so that it would be ready for use in Fall 2017.

Accepted here about a month ago but still waiting to hear back about gettin into the MSTP program, anyone have a timeframe for that?

I know they hope to start to move stuff in starting this year and hope to open in Fall of 2017. With that said, the building is far from done as of right now (at least from 1-2 weeks ago when I pass by the site). And I'm talking about the general framework and structure of the building. So if you factor in the weather conditions (Buffalo finally had significant snowfall and frigid weather this week) and having to get all the interior done (electric, plumbing, safety guidelines for lab, special installations for labs, etc). In reality, they won't begin to start moving in until possibly at the earliest at the end of this year or beginning of 2017 (assuming no setbacks). From what I heard (from a faculty), the school might eventually hit funding issues (you would think they have the money before starting. but hey just like everyone else they have the start now worry about it later mentality. though that $30 million definitely probably helped significantly). He doesn't think it would be ready Fall 2017 at least not fully functional. Even more realistic estimated time would probably be Fall 2018 maybe even Spring 2019. Regardless, I don't think class of 2020 will be spending much time in the new building (most likely in clinical years be the time when it's fully functional), if any. I think it would be nice to see the transition...if it's a good transition....or it can completely suck. But let's be optimistic 🤣

Did you ever hear back? I am very interested in this school and was thinking about calling regarding the status of my application as well. Submitted in July and have yet to hear anything.
