Has anyone heard of students accepted off the waiting list receiving any sort of merit based aid? Not that it's super likely but it'd be crushing to get an offer of acceptance without any possibility of getting some of the merit aid Vandy is known for (it's still the case that 75% of students admitted earlier in the cycle get a 75% tuition scholarship right?)

It is possible. Heard it straight from the director of finaid.

Has anyone received an email asking them to remove themselves from other schools waitlists? Can they even tell whether accepted students have are on the waitlist at other schools? I'm asking for friend Who is accepted at Vanderbilt but on the waitlist at some other school they're interested in

Yeah I'm still on the waitlist a few other places, mostly for financial reasons. Vandy is my top choice, but I'm super stressed out about how expensive it is and upset that I didn't get any merit aid. I got some financial aid, but it's still pretty crushing debt I'm looking at. So if I get into any of the WL schools that I also really liked, I'm going to compare financial packages.

Does anyone know if there's any chance someone who is admitted will get merit aid at this point if some becomes available?

From what I have heard, it changed a few years ago so that there are 6 100% tuition scholarships and then 30-something 75% scholarships, so only about 50% of the class gets some form of merit aid now.

From same conversation with director of finaid, sadly the answer is no. All remaining merit aid will be used to poach people on waitlist.

I don't know if that's exactly true, got a call from the school yesterday saying they were interested in placing me into what sounded like a top-tier waitlist. But I was also told I would not be able to get any merit based aid if a spot became available. I was specifically told all merit aid has been awarded. Maybe merit aid is still available for specific people they really want?

Hmm, our conversation took place back in February so maybe policy has changed. She also said they give more aid than they actually have as not everyone takes the offer -- perhaps the yield was higher than usual?

I'm an incoming student to Meharry Medical College (right around the corner from Vanderbilt). I'm a male student. Is anyone looking for a roommate right now? Notify me ASAP. Thank you.

Can you give us a sense of what kind of debt you're talking about, like a ballpark figure?

Based on my financial aid package and also trying to be super frugal, I'm going to try to get by on taking out ~$50K/year (might have to take out a bit more if I run out of living money though)... So looking at at least $200K total in loans, which is already on the higher end of students at Vandy...

I'm just extremely stressed out about it, especially since no one I know of is planning to take out nearly as much. My parents keep telling me they think it's fine because I'll make enough one day to pay it back, but I'm still really scared about it.

Accepted yesterday afternoon off the waitlist! Got a call the day before yesterday about being on the condensed waitlist. No merit-based scholarship help. They gave me five days to give them a final answer.
For those of you who have been accepted...
This may be a dumb question, but is hitting the "accept" button on the vandy portal the means through which I give them my final answer? Or do I need to email or call Ms. Kimble to make it official?
Also, (this is probably already deep within this thread somewhere so I apologize) could anyone elaborate on what the chances are of getting some kind of merit-based aid subsequent years if you are getting diddly the first year?

Congratulations. Did you get an email or phone call about your acceptance? It is common practice to send a note telling you what you should do to accept although if the button exists, that should be sufficient.
