2015-2016 Vanderbilt University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the screening email as well... my stats are 3.85/517 from candy undergrad BUT i'm post-bacc/non-trad with a 4.0 GPA in all my pre-med coursework, so hopefully I'll make it through! Great job to all those receiving secondaries and good luck to everyone in applying! Don't give up yet!

Has anyone below a 37 MCAT recieved one yet, or is it safe to assume that these secondaries are above the "threshold"

For MSTP, I think everyone gets one. That is from looking at last years thread.

People with secondaries- are you MSTP or MD only?

I am MSTP and got secondary (waived tuition for MSTP as well). 36 MCAT

Just got an email from Vandy saying they are currently screening applicants to receive the secondary app. Does anyone know how long this process usually takes from past cycles?

Secondary here earlier today!
521/3.9gpa
Good luck to everyone waiting with baited breath!!
EDIT: I am also MD only.

Congrats to everyone that got a secondary today!

From the previous cycle it looks like secondaries started coming out around July 20th. Gives us a good two weeks to really get the essays ready.

Nope just the "screening" email, GPA 3.92 MCAT 34. Us mere mortals will have to wait for awhile. I have a mountain of other secondaries to do, and this one is already prewritten (did this one first, then I have cannabilized parts for other essays). If Vandy doesn't want it, I'll use for UCSD, which also has a biography.

Another rush of post-midnight productivity, another secondary out! Good luck with the screen to those of you still waiting, I'm sure it will come soon!

Does anyone know if they screen for MD/PhD? I'm thinking they don't because I don't meet the cutoffs discussed in this thread above but got a secondary

would you guys who got secondaries last night mind posting your stats? thank you and congrats!

3.8 and 36. Do you guys think I'll make the cut? I'm trying to decide whether or not to prewrite

I'm your exact same stats, but at this point, I think it's more about other things like ECs when undergoing the "holistic screen". I'm not pre-writing, but that's because I have so many other secondaries back-logged. However, if I had nothing else to do, I probably would. Worst case scenario, you spend a couple days writing a cool essay about yourself. The challenge one would be easier to do, since it's similar to questions asked by a lot of other schools.

yeah definitely, I know people with much lower stats that ending up getting accepted
To play devil's advocate, I know someone with a 37 and 3.7+ last year who was not even invited to complete the secondary. It depends on more than stats if you're not in the automatic group.

Also MSTP here. Although it is exciting to get secondary, I believe they do not screen out MSTP applicants.

Submitted last night. The autobiography essay wasn't bad once I got rolling on it.

In the event I get an invitation to complete a secondary, I can see this becoming something I struggle with

Out of curiosity, how long was your autobiography?

I had the same though, but it turns out you know yourself pretty well so it isn't as bad as you think.

Can any current med student speak to the whole Curriculum 2.0 thing at Vandy? How different is it from other schools?

Was it just me or did anyone else not like you couldn't 'preview' your app before submitting?

Is it bad to use a personal example for the challenge essay?

I can't think of anything else you could talk about aside from a personal challenge you faced...unless I'm reading your question wrong haha!

"Please discuss a challenging situation or obstacle you have faced in the past."
