2016-2017 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone who has interviewed this cycle able to explain what the "structured interview" is like? MMI? Would love to know a little of what to expect.

Matriculating here! Good luck to all the applicants!! Feel free to message me with any questions!

Do you know what the average new MCAT score is for the interviewed/accepted applicant? What was yours, if you do not mind me asking.

I really have no idea. She wasn't clear. Can someone else give them a call to verify?

Anyone know when they should get back to us? Interviewed 9/19

I'm not sure where the admissions committee is in the review process, but I interviewed 10/28 last year and got my acceptance on 12/18.

Sending out IIs but not decisions?! Cmon ! Lol

October is probably the worst month of the entire year for everyone, crazy busy, so it doesn't surprise me that they're taking a while reviewing interviewed applicants. (One of our course coordinators is on the admissions committee and she, like many others, has to deal with Helltober for the first years)

9/20 interviewee, anxiously awaiting results also! Does anyone know if we will be notified via letter or email? Last year it was letters

I got an email and then a letter a few weeks later.

submitted my secondary app on 9/5 and got II on 10/17,

Please if you have interviewed here, let me know what to expect. I'm a rookie applicant and this is my very first interview

It's not too stressful, tbh. They try to make you feel comfortable. From what I've seen, it isn't a ton different from last year. You interview with a a faculty member, write your ethical situation essay (which is seriously a page and you have 30 minutes to do it....no biggie). You also get to sit in on a class currently taking place. They serve you lunch but it appears they don't feed you guys in the cafeteria anymore? Anyway, after lunch you get your tour of DUCOM. I noticed when I talked to a few applicants during their class sit-in, it seemed to make them more comfortable...idk though? lol Either way, just try to relax, be yourself and you'll rock it!

Does anyone know if Drexel offers merit based scholarships? Thinking about withdrawing my II on 11/7.

They're annoyingly stringent on any type of scholarship, actually, need-based or merit. (And I qualified for FAP and got nothing...)

II! First one of the season - so I'm pretty stoked! 🙂 Complete 8/29, OOS, LM 69.

For those who have already interviewed, any tips for interview day, where to stay/fly into, etc?

Good luck to everyone waiting on II's/acceptances!

Just fly into PHL. You can easily take the SEPTA regional rail into the city for a couple dollars and find a place to stay there. They do offer a host program as well, but I am not sure how quickly that fills up, but either way, East Falls (where DUCOM is) and the rest of the city is very accessible by public transportation or Uber (if they're still doing that....Philadelphia Parking Authority made it illegal, but I am not sure). If you have questions about public transportation, just PM me. But you can stay in Center City if you want and just take the Chestnut Hill West line for regional rail to Queen Lane and it's about a block from the train station (I am a local, so I took the train for my interview rather than drive). Like I said before, you can easily reach anything with SEPTA.

Interview day. I've told others but it doesn't hurt to repeat it...anyway, my best advice is to be yourself. You'll more easily relax if you just let your natural personality shine and speak passionately about your experiences, they definitely want to hear that from you.

Average was 511 for matriculants. I took the old one but interviewed with the equivalent of a 505

That's the first time I've seen that number for the new MCAT lol. My class the average on the old is a 31 (not sure if it's accepted or matriculated, I honestly don't remember)

Hey guys, I was complete early August and still have not heard back. Does that mean they passed over me?
Noticed some people who were marked complete after me got interview invites.

Not at all!! They interview into March so don't get too worried if you haven't heard anything yet. DUCOM gets 14k applications a year, it takes forever to review them all.

Will that include rejections also or only post II results?

I think just post II results. I don't think they do pre-II rejections at all.... but I am not 100% certain on this. They will eventually start putting people on hold, though.

Is it too soon to send an update if I applied early September? I got published

If I send a letter of rec to Drexel via AMCAS will it be considered? I know there is a portal that they prefer but letters of rec should not be sent by the person being recommended -- when I called they said to e-mail it via the general admissions e-mail address but when I e-mailed the general e-mail address to confirm this I never heard back...I'd rather submit it to AMCAS but I don't know if it will even be read if I do.

I recently submitted an additional LOR through AMCAS, and it was uploaded into my Drexel portal shortly after. I'm pretty sure they will see it as long as it's sent through AMCAS.

I've had the same status since mid-August: "We are pleased to inform you that your application to Drexel University College of Medicine is now complete." Looking at last year's thread, there were some status changes before II invites.

Has anyone had a recent status change? They did rejections by snail mail last year; II invites by portal and email.

Did you see when they started sending the rejections out? I haven't heard anything at all yet... not even responses to emails I sent in August lol!
