2016-2017 Drexel University Application Thread

As a former student, DO NOT APPLY HERE. The administration sucks, specifically Nancy Minugh Purvis. The curriculum is not that great and all Drexel cares about is making money, which they make very clear. Save yourself the hassle and money and go somewhere else.

As a current student, I love Drexel. But come check out the school for yourself and make your own decision! Also, the admin that the previous poster mentioned isn't even at Drexel anymore

Hey guys! For those that already interviewed, can you guys please check the "Status" tab on your secondary portal. I'm not sure why my "MCAT complete" has a red exclamation point next to it. It had a green check mark pre-interview. Not sure if this is something I should be concerned about. Thanks guys!!

I still have a green check mark

Well the committee meets tomorrow. Hoping some of us who interviewed get some good news in the next 48 hours

Was it by email or portal.. or both?! Also Congrats!!

It was by both. I received the email first, which in turn prompted me to the portal, where I saw it there too! And thank you!!

First, congratulations!!! :highfive:

& Second, Oh my goodness I think I was the one who took the Monday one :wideyed:! Lol I had it on the 28th, which is right around Thanksgiving so plane tickets and hotels were ridiculous. I called yesterday and was able to switch! 😀 Nov 28th might still be open for anyone else! Best of :luck::luck::luck: to us all 🙂

The 28th was still available but I couldn't get off work for that date. And it's ok! Good luck on your interview! Let me know how it goes! 🙂

Does any local or recent interviewers can give me a pulse of how the SEPTA strike will affect moving around the city via public transportation ?

All of the subways and buses within the city are currently shut down, however the regional rail lines are still running with ~30 min delays. Are you flying in or taking a train? Either way, you can probably catch a regional rail to the Queen Ln station (which basically drops you right at the med school).

Also, Uber and Lyft seem to be still functioning fine, so they would probably be a good option as well. No matter what, just leave yourself much more time to get there than you normally would.

all my checkmarks finally turned green online (before, the MCAT one was red and they told me it was a glitch)... Hopefully that means something

Just wanted to report back here that I interviewed today with 45 other people. Huge pool, it was their first Saturday session. They were definitely very organized and everyone working at the university was very kind, helpful, and enthusiastic, but- and not to scare anyone- I had a super high-stress interview. My interviewer enjoyed playing devils advocate with me and I did my best to cope with his questions. Everything I said was challenged and/or made to look like an embarrassment, but I stuck my ground while under the pressure (though probably less eloquently...). I hope that pays off but everyone else seemed to have low-stress casual conversational interview. I'd be surprised to be admitted after that bloodbath but maybe my memory is making it worse than it actually was. There's a brief short ethical essay, which is cake. I wish everyone else the best of luck!

I agree! I was worried at first when there were so many people, but they made it work. My interviewer was hard to read so I can't really tell how it went, but I guess we'll see down the line. Essay is pretty easy, but it is scored and considered for admission so don't treat it lightly. Good luck everyone!

Anyone else can give their impression of the interview day ?

Anyone else can give their impression of the interview day ?
The interview day was great! They talked to us for a while about the school, had lunch with students, wrote an ethical essay, more talking, sat in on a class, and interviewed. Of course, many individuals schedules were different. The staff at the school were friendly and helpful, the students were great, and the interview was laid back and very conversational.

I had a little bit of a different experience lol. My interviewer was about 15 minutes late and then he spent several minutes reading my application before he called me into the office. The conversation I had with him went well enough, but it was clear that he didn't read my application (or confused me with another applicant). Because my interview started late, I ended late and it cut into the time I had to write my essay. The rest of the day went well. For those who get II's, make sure you ask the admissions office for a list of student hosts. That was the best experience of the weekend for me.

I interviewed on 11/5, Saturday and the entire day was great. My day began with the ethical essay which was pretty straightforward and then my interview. My interview was not stressful and conversational and my interviewer was upbeat and asked great questions. Then I went to the break where I was able to meet the 50+ applicants who were all very nice and relaxed! My student interviewer was amazing. She was an MS1 who loves Drexel and we met some her classmates who reiterated their love of Drexel Med. Overall, I received an excellent vibe of the school and I would LOVE to attend!

I am sad that other students (from previous posts) did not have a great experience but Drexel adcoms informed us that they constantly listen to feedback and have adjusted the interview day and curriculum accordingly.

I do want to add that during interview day, they specified that decisions take longer than some other schools. My student hosts said it took ~10 weeks for them to hear back.

Also, they mentioned that they have sent out probably <50% of the total interview invites they plan to send. For those of you who haven't heard back, you definitely have a shot!
