oh cool! didnt you get an interview to usc though? I submitted my pharmcas mid-August, my GPA calculations were made on Sep 9. As for supplemental, I don't have the link where you can check on the status of your application otherwise I would look there to see the date where they received everything, but I'm pretty sure it was late Aug/early Sept that I had it sent...
Yaa I got an interview from USC the first round ... unfortunately USC changed its system totally this year ...they only offered 15 admission out of 100 , and they are still reviewing our applications ...I submitted my supplemental in late july and they received my pharmcas in early Aug... I hope I can get interview here too !:luck:

sure, I got my BA from UCSD in 2010 with a cumulative GPA of 3.5. My prereqs GPA is 3.3-3.4 I think. I have a lot of classes pending now so I was pleasantly surprised to get an interview without sending in my fall semester grades and updates. I did submit 4 rec letters (really good ones I think) and have a lot of work/internship experience. Yay! I really like Western, I went to one of their preview days and was really happy. Whoever hasn't gone to one, should make the effort!

By the way how many classes u were missing ?

Do you guys know approximately how many people are interviewed per day by Western? (in case someone browsed last cycle's thread)

8am-12pm is a long time lol

u got interview invite wanttobepharm? 👍

jealous ~ lol even tho i didn't apply here but i really like this school. The director of pharmacy at my hospital always has good things to say about their program. good luck 🙂

Thanks for the link! So....according to this, I submitted my supp on August 18. I was totally off. I'm missing a ton of classes - this fall I'm taking Microbio+Lab, Biochem, Physiology + Lab, and Micro-econ. In Spring I still need to take Anatomy + Lab and Speech. I wasn't pre-pharm during undergrad which is why I don't have these done, even though I got my degree from UCSD I'm taking my pre-reqs at a cal state through a postbac program.

Yeah, I really like Western...everyone there is super friendly and I met a lot of pharmacy students from there who were on rotation at the hospital pharmacy I volunteer at, they had good things to say about the school and they said they were happier than their friends who went to different schools (which I won't name lol)

ooh nice thanks for info...I am not missing that many ...and my pre-req GPA is 3.48 ..we'll see....:xf:

Congrats to the people who got a call for an interview! 🙂 🙂
Anyways I was just wondering to the IPBP people: Have you gotten access to the Internal Assessment Study Materials yet?? It says you gotta pay $250 to access the guide, but I cant find any links for where or how to pay it and Im starting to freak out coz it says you should have 4 months to study..meaning it SHOULD be out now!?

Thanks ! 😀

Anybody get called for interviews today? I really hope to get one soon!

I just got a call from Western at 11:56am inviting me for an interview on Dec. 10th; however, I declined their offer cause I got into USC. Do you think that's a wise choice? 😕

Congrats! I would definitely go with USC over western if I had the chance!

When did you submit your supplemental by the way?

I submitted Western the earliest around end of July and the following week for USC; however, USC got to me first before Western. My primary choice was Western b/c I thought that I could never get in USC. Life is interesting...good news always come when you are unexpected. I hope my decline toward Western will help you get an invitation from Western soon.

Wow, CONGRATS!
Do you mind sharing your stats?

I just missed a call from Western U!!! I've been waiting for so long, but at the same time, I can't make the Dec 10th interview because of a tragedy in the family. Hopefully someone else can take my spot too.

As for choosing USC over Western, I think there are pros and cons. However, if you have already decided on USC, you should probably let other candidates get their chance at Western. 🙂

As for those wondering, I submitted my supplemental in early October.

Sorry to hear that...my condolences to you and your family. You can try to reschedule your interview cause I'm sure they will understand it, unless you are set to attend at another school. Yup, I have declined Western's invitation so they could give my spot to another deserving candidate.

Lilipad89, are you joining me for usc 2016?

Heh. Thanks. 🙂 As for USC, I haven't been invited for an interview yet. I'm hoping that when I call back for Western, they can give me an exact date for interviews in Jan. This way, I'll know if it conflicts with USC and my other top priority schools. 🙂

The admission office told me that Interview time is from 9:30am to 12:30pm? I just want to make sure? so we have to be there at 9:30am?

If it starts at 9:30am, then it would be wise for you to be there half an hour early so you could check in and prep before your interview. Good luck.

All the best for your interview and plzz share your views about interview....

thanks.. has anybody got the email confirmation?

I think they said you have to be there at 7:30, not 9:30. I'm still waiting for the confirmation email with details...

Have you visited both schools and are basing your conclusion on that or is it because USC is older and more established?

You can check my stats in the 2016 USC thread page 5. Sorry, I don't want to post it again b/c I feel uncomfortable posting it again...it feels like i'm bragging which I don't like to do. Good luck wishingstar! 🙂

Thanks! =)

Did anyone get a call today from Western U? I was left a voicemail and when i called back this morning, they said the lady was out of her office today? Did anyone get that too?

I think she is stating that due to USC ranking and longer establishment than Western. I have never been to Western before so I don't know how nice the campus and the program that they have. From my interview experience at USC, the people are very friendly and nice - it feels like they are one big happy family. If you have to choose Jackie B, which school would you prefer?

Actually I think the schools have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses. USC is older, more established, has more opportunities for research and the dual degrees are great. Also since it's tough to find a job these days in pharmacy it might help to be a part of the Trojan network. However, some things turned me off about USC. I went to one of their admission sessions and the vibe I got from the presentation was "look at our statistics, clearly most of you don't have a shot of getting in so just go home". I approached the admissions rep afterwards to ask her some personal questions regarding my app and she blew me off and was so rude. I was shocked because I was expecting the best from USC but I think since their pharmacy program is one of the first in CA...that it's gotten to their heads a little. I have called USC though on various occasions during the app process and a dif woman has picked up, this lady has been very nice, patient, and helpful. I have a close friend who attends USC and I attended one of his lectures and even went to a private networking event that night for the pharmacy students with him. The networking event was great, and the lecture was great...but I was really turned off by his classmates. They seemed SUPER immature...why? Because I just so happened to drop it on the reproductive physiology lecture and the whole crowd was giggling and laughing and going "eww" in unison at gross STD pictures on the screen. I'd expect that from a 9th grade Health class, not soon-to-be health professionals.
As for Western, I also visited one of their admissions sessions. I was more impressed than I thought I would be. Everyone I met was super friendly and approachable and I really liked the Dean of the school - he gave us a mini lecture and told us not to fear automation in pharmacy, that this is actually a good thing because who wants to do bottle labeling and pill counting anyways? Also Western is more friendly to non-traditional applicants which I like because I think older, more experienced students have more to contribute than freshly-minted 22 yr old "UCXX" students living with mommy and daddy (this is the type of student USC prefers). Western has a newer campus and I like their pharmacy classrooms - the inside is situated like a circle with everyone facing each other and there are 4 projectors in the middle facing each quarter of the room. There are also mini rooms in the main lecture room for students to go to to do group work in during class, which is great, you don't have to deal with the clamor of trying to do group work in a huge lecture hall. I also like Western's block scheduling. I took 2 summer classes this summer and found that I did much better when I concentrated on one class for 4-5 weeks rather than 4-5 classes in 12 weeks. USC has 2 pharmacy lecture halls which are a little stuffy because they're like 100 years old, lol, and there's nothing special to them. Finally, I've met Western's PharmD students on rotation at the hospital I volunteer at and they love the school, one girl even said she was happier than her friend who was in USC's program. Overall, I prefer Western's attitude but I like USC's research facilities since I think I'd like to get a PhD one day too. I also want to specialize in infectious disease pharmacy and I think USC would be better equipped for that especially regarding residencies and all. It would be easier to decide if their damn tuition wasn't exactly the same...

Thank you and good luck with your interview. Remember to stay calm and be yourself 🙂

Out of curiosity, do all interviews end around 12:00pm on dec 10?

Hey all,

I got my interview invite the other day via phone. Anybody know what kind of questions and essay they'll have that day?

THANKS!

Have they sent out emails and does anyone know if they're still making calls?

I saw that someone had an interview offer for the Jan. date. Maybe they're still making calls for later interview dates.

I have a Jan interview date cuz I couldn't make the Dec one. Just fyi 🙂

Just wanted to share my then-and-now experience in hopes of putting more information out there. I'm a little late to the party as I just read Jackie B's last post from last week, but here goes.

Last year my two school choices came down to USC and Western; while there were a few others, those were the two at the top of my list. I liked different things about school and still think you can't go wrong with either school. I felt both schools, from the students, faculty, and atmosphere, were both very friendly and inviting. My impression of Western was that it was a really laid back and relaxed atmosphere, and I really liked that. It's a different vibe at USC, but not in a bad way or anything. But I had the notion that going into pharmacy school, I was going to get an education (ie, go to class, study hard, intern somewhere, rinse and repeat for four years) and be done with it. That's why Western worked for me. I can't say I had the same impression of USC that Jackie B might have had in terms of faculty and students, but I ultimately went with what my gut told me, which was USC. From the location, education, prestige, and most of all the people, it just felt right.

As a current student, I feel I can more adequately comment on my experience and compare that to the experience others may have perceived. For one, my initial impression of the students, the faculty, and the administration is largely unchanged. They are, for the most part, extremely nice, helpful, and encouraging people. That's not to say there aren't exceptions, but so far so good for me. We are proud of our school, no doubt - but I've never had and still haven't gotten any kind of pompous or ego-inflated attitude from anyone. On another note, USC is big on training future leaders. They actively encourage you to be involved - whether it be organizations, fraternities, clinics - whatever makes you happy. While I'm sure this happens everywhere, I feel USC especially so. A lot of what I expected coming in was not to be found, but in a good way!

I also thought I'd comment on some other points I may tend to disagree with more than others. I don't agree with the statement that USC prefers "freshly-minted 22 yr old "UCXX" students living with mommy and daddy"; I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion, but it doesn't seem that way at least. The average age of the incoming class was 25, and that's with the good number of TAP students we have that tend to be around 21 years of age. And they, as well as most people I've met, aren't immature at all.

Regardless, I'm not here to blindly defend USC or stir any controversy, but just wanted to chime in with my experience. I'll be the first to admit that no school is perfect, USC included (well, I guess I can't speak for Western personally, but...). You just have to go with what you feel is right and where you think you'll be able to get the most out of your education and the next four years. I'm definitely enjoying my time here, as busy as it (always) is!

P.S. I will admit I do really like Western's hexagonal (I think it's hexagonal anyway) classroom setup with the screens all around and outlets at every seat. That's pretty sweet 🙂 And yes USC's lectures hall are older than dirt and could use a major overhaul. But I hope that's not a major selling point for people, haha.

And good luck to everyone interviewing this upcoming Saturday!

Well spoken from my fellow Trojan 🙂. Cubez, I was wondering if I could ask you for some advice as I prepare to attend usc in the fall of 2012?

Cubez - Hi! I think we've PMed each other in the past 🙂 well said, I also like that USC is more academically oriented because I do want to get a PhD someday. My comment regarding the immaturity of the students stems from my visit to the school. I sat in my friend's lecture on reproductive physiology and the whole room was being very immature and giggling at pictures. The whole room was giggling in unison, just reminded me of 9th grade health class. I was shocked to see that. I also looked around the room and everyone looked super young, compared to a lot of Western students I met were older and more experienced. I'm trying to have a fair perspective here because I do prefer USC with some notes and don't like how a lot of students prefer the school because of the name without actually putting in effort to research/visit schools. I personally went to a UC myself because I was in naive in high school and was just focusing on big names, as I got older I realized the big name didn't mean much and didn't necessarily improve how much I learned (I think the most I've ever learned was taking a few classes at a community college, which obviously has NO reputation...)

As I was getting ready for the this sat. interview....I was on the SND feedback website I noticed some students were mentioning about how they prepared for the interview was by looking over the WesterU web page for some interview questions!! do you guys know how we can access that? if there is such a thing!

thanks...

Hey Azaria,

Just look through the old forums, you'll be able to find a couple. I couldn't find much myself. I'll see you tomorrow!
