2018-2019 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That sound ****ty. You seem like a really ****ty person.
More fuel for the alternativeness of my alternative account. It’s hard to be open on this forum lest you be accused of being a certain kind of person.

This s why I made an “alternative” account. Wasn’t sure what kind of reactions I’d get.

Okay, well to be fair, it's probs not best to lead with "I made a fake account."

It sounds like you have a solid number of invites, and I'm sure you've got some awesome sites in there. Or at least I hope so, because otherwise that was a lot of money haha. You can always go back and second guess your site list, AND that isn't an effective strategy for anyone. You got invites to the sites you got invites to because you're a good fit for those sites, so work on cultivating excitement for those sites and celebrate that 🙂

Ok an “alternative” account. As in not my main account. An account specifically designed to not be linked to my other posts here.

So....basically you made a fake account so you could brag about the number of interviews you have...after a bunch of people just expressed their despair about having very few interviews and being afraid that they won't match...and then you lamented the fact that you didn't aim for better.

....well then...

I'm going to hope for your sake that you didn't really mean to come across as lacking in empathy and assume that the spirit of your post was lost in translation from intent to actual text.

This is also why I made an “alternative” account. Like the real world, there’s little room here for people to be having different experiences and reactions. The initial intent was not at all to be empathetic OR to be mean - it was simply to express my particular experience honestly without having to do all the ridiculous soothing and pussyfooting around people do here. Keep proving me right everyone !

Hi. I made a fake account to report that I applied to fifteen sites and got one rejection and fourteen invites. This I a shock to me and I’m not sure what to make of it beyond being happy and also wondering if I should’ve applied to more “competitive” sites.

Did you apply for all UCCs?

I'm dying over here...peace and love...c'mon guys...
I've given up and just poured a glass of wine.

edit: can you drink wine when you have a cold? These are the questions of our time.

Has anyone heard from Ohio State University Dept. of Psychiatry aka the Adult Psychopathology Track? Rejections or Invites. I've seen people here getting emails about their Counseling services....

Edit: Has anyone received a rejection from Worcester? I know they sent out invites a while ago..

Was away with patients. Just got back to scrolling the forum and uhh... What the hxck did I just miss!?!?! Lol

A bunch of future psychologists being accused of "pussyfooting" and "ridiculous soothing"....by an account named peace and love no less...the irony. I can't handle it.

Can we all agree that this needs to be a new official hashtag? #PussyFooting... It's just too good to be left out

I had to google it because I've never heard it before...was expecting it to be an urban dictionary word....nope, it's a real one. I had no idea. Guess that's why I didn't get 14 interviews

did we all forget the #pussyfooting that happened when people had their interview and rejection counts in their signatures? This forum is proving so many social psych principles.

Yep- must be why.

Has anyone heard from Sharp Healthcare (deadline was today) or Children’s institute (deadline is 1/10 on APPIC but I’m hoping this is a typo).
This last day of waiting is the worst!

So I'm trying to construct a list of different criteria to rate each site on after I interview, and I'm wondering if I'm leaving anything out: Training (clinical rotations, assessment rotations, ability to provide supervision, protected research, diverse populations, DBT component), Supervision (based largely off of number of hours for group and individual), facility (office space, access to other resources, multiple locations within a site/ease of traveling to them), quality of life (#hours work/week, specific billing hours to be met each week, taking work home (per intern report), do interns seem happy/respected?), living/city ("vibe", cost of living, weather, stipend, health insurance plan).

What am I forgetting that should I add?

I don't know if this fits into anything, but if you plan on doing a post-doc...I've been considering where their interns have placed for fellowships.

Thank you for saying what I was trying to say in a much more tactful way.

To all my neuro-fellows out there!! Are there any statistics available associating number of neuro-specific interviews with a match rate? Or should I assume that they are the same as the percent chance of match that APPIC makes available? Just trying to ballpark my chance of matching to a pure neuro site with the interviews I have.

Thank you so much for any response or thoughts on this!!

Okay, that seems a bit much. Let's be kind to one another because this process is difficult enough as it is without others being hateful.

tl;dr
1) Don't lead anything with "I created a fake account" and
2) Don't call others names.

🙂

I have zero desire to be kind to anyone who creates a side account to just come on here and brag about how many interviews they got.

Aaaah, I see! Hahaha I had to Google "pussyfooting" too. I'm not sure what came over me but I got curious on what that would look like if I clicked the images tab...
Hahahaha!!!! Omg. That totally sounds like something I’d do. Lol are we interviewing together in California? Marin? I’m on 1-16, afternoon.

Has anyone who applied to the trauma track @ UT HSC Houston heard anything? It looks like these are all general track folks

First off, congrats!! This is no small thing!!!

Clarifying question abouth the "School" part of your track: Is this the child primary care track?

have you heard from the UTHealth Houston trauma track yet? no news here “/

And I feel no badness about calling you insecure because I’m a “xxxxty” person (your words not mine).
What was that about people proving each other right?

You and mordz are both adding so much negativity by acting like children. I feel like I need to pull you two apart or make you wear the friendship shirt.

This forum has been largely positive and cute in spite of high stress because people have been supportive and understanding even when they don't agree.

Can we get back to that please? Stop responding to each other or take it to the PMs. Nobody is going to come out of this feeling better except the person who shows maturity by dropping it.

Really, Citrus and Momentous? You do invites within two days of your posted notification date and you can't manage to notify the rejected parties on time? Surely we're not looking at a rolling invite situation when we've actually arrived at the notification date. #aggravated

I'm going to be asking about/listening for qualities in supervision that I am hoping for (frequent focus on taped sessions in supervision, for instance). I also value outcomes research being applied at sites, so I want to know how they monitor therapy outcomes and what they do with that monitoring. In terms of quality of life I also want to gauge somehow the cohesion on site between professionals and how collaborative their working relationships are. I definitely want to interview the site about how culture is integrated into training and what views does the site hold about culture. I still need to think about this a lot more myself so I pretty much saw your question, copied and pasted it into Word. You rock, thanks for sparking this.
