I'm dead. OMG. :smuggrin::heckyeah::dead:

Haha, I was utilizing the newly discovered (to me) green triangle feature and you were the only one who appeared to be online and it was too tempting to bug you in the silence of my repetitive comments to myself. 😛

Haha! I was like ohhh was I inadvertently clever some how ? Too many likes on hawkeye’s posts? What’d I do? Lol btw #thirsty in this internship context is brilliant.

Haha, thanks. Sometimes being super genuine can lead to comedy. 😛

I usually wear some sleek, classy-looking ankle boots with low heels (I actually bought them for grad school interviews!). The added benefit is that if you're interviewing in cold places they are much less freezing than other options.

I love ankle boots and have several, but esp with my navy suit, I CANNOT find a pair that doesn’t look awkward as F! I just bought another camel heeled pair online but I’m still pessimistic. I’ve tried to google image this but it was remarkably unuseful!

What style pants are you wearing? Flare? Boot cut? Skinny? I don’t claim to be a fashionista but I imagine the cut would make it look better or worse? Camel or brown sounds like it might work? I think with “skinny” suit pants booties might look best. But again, I say go with what you feel confident in!

Well if we're going the interview outfit route, does anyone have thoughts on forensic interviews and potentially having different color pieces? Like would a black blazer work with gray slacks? Or should I go classic and match them? Also, someone in my cohort mentioned wearing looser slacks...but loose slacks are NOT a good look for me. I tend to go for a snug fit around the top (er, bottom) and just a straight leg. Am I overthinking this? lol

I would avoid anything fitting around the "bottom" unless you can cover "it" with the blazer. I have been in BOP prac sites for over a year and they will literally turn you away at the door if you are dressed "inappropriately," which is very subjectively determined (thankfully it hasn't happened to me :claps:... yet). To play it on the safe side, a bit looser is better but not LOOSE lol does that make sense? Straight leg is fine, just avoid ankle cut if you can. I am not really sure about having different color suit pieces... while I don't think it would would be an issue, I would keep it simple.

Yes, it sucks that we have to appease others with our appearance but at the end of the day (ESPECIALLY in forensics), consider the population you will be working with and how your dress may be perceived.

Are you all buying actual suit sets??? I have a ton of dress pants and some blazers that I got from different places and I was planning on putting them together... does it matter????
:shrug::beat:

Also, am I the only one who woke up and immediately refreshed their email and began trying to predict when they would get emails from the west coast before realizing it's Sunday...?

:sendoff::hungover:

I did this... and I knew it was Sunday
Then when none of my emails were internship related I came here

Is it sad that I had an email where the sender looked similar to a hospital I applied to, subject "RE: Xmas Gift," and read "You are the recipient to..." which tricked me into believing it was an internship email... as if they were saying THEY were my Xmas gift??? (no logic being used)... before the email finished "...Mrs. Julie Leach Donation of $2 million USD"

:bag:

All invites to interview hence forth should be subject line “Xmas gift”

I originally bought a set (Calvin Klein at Dillard’s so it was reasonably priced) but then ended up going into Banana Republic where the sales lady did some kind of voodoo magic and I ended up buying one of their suits (she kept saying my name a whole lot, “oh, Sally*, that looks so good on you; Sally, you are really gonna nail these interviews, Sally; Sally, I can’t believe how well this fits you, it’s like it was made for you, Sally”). I actually liked the pants of that suit better than the CK ones, and had my mom inspect how well the blacks match. She said she couldn’t tell a difference so I’m mixing and matching the BR pants and CK blazer.

*not my real name, obvs

You'd be surprised. Some people are ridiculous af and will immediately downgrade a person because their shoes have a scuff or their fingernails are uneven.

I'm mentally downgrading myself in the eyes of any sites that deign to interview me. Y'all have things you're thinking about with regard to dress and appearance that never occurred to me! Doomed.

love that you guys brought up / thought of ankle boots! I will definitely be wearing them now but never would have thought to!

I was filling my DSW cart this morning with "booties" :wacky: best for super cold / conservative sites! God forbid we show the top of our foot :wideyed: (yes, this is advice I was given... do not show the top of your foot.)

We weren’t told that, but it was advised that if we have foot/ankle tattoos (which I do), we should stick to boots/conservative shoes

So one of my sites has asked me to email them a "passport style photo" before the actual interview and another site has asked me to bring a "photograph" of myself on the day of the interview. I was wondering if I should go to a CVS or Target and have them take a passport photo of me... Thoughts anyone?
I took a passport style picture of myself using my iPhone then uploaded it to the CVS Photo website. It should be ready for pick up in one hour. I also searched for coupon codes and got 40% off my order by entering PHOTO40 at checkout, so that was nice. The whole thing came out to $3.17.

Originally I wanted to go to a photo studio and get a professional headshot done. While this would have been nice, I neither had the time nor the money to spend on that. I am happy with the result, and training sites are just going to use it to jog their memory of you anyway. Hope this helps!

P.S. I probably over did it, but I ordered ten 4x6" photos and two wallet prints.

Funny enough I'm heading to Costco right now to get passport photos for this purpose. $5 for 4 pics (and my sites specified passport size).

Haha thank you! I'm even more paranoid now about the original pair of pants I had as they fit more like a pair of jeans, but I love them! I'm a bit on the curvy side so pretty much all slacks are close-fitted around my bottom. I ended up getting a pair of safer black slacks though and will likely just wear those.

Curly hair unite!!

I'm so happy to see so many fellow curly haired folks on here 😀

Struggle I'm having: curly or straight? Curly is much easier but requires packing of a lot of products. Straight means I have to straighten the ever loving heck out of it and attempt to do magical equations to think of when I should wash my hair in order for it to calm the eff down for me to straighten it and how long I can go between washes in order to flirt with the line between sleek vs. greasy. Plus I think I feel like more of a boss when it's straight.

Overall thoughts: I don't want to.

I hate straightening my hair, because inevitably interviews involve being in a room with lots of people, and then I get hot and my hair curls anyway but doesn’t look NEARLY as good as intentionally wearing it curly, so I am leaning in to the curls and just rocking it! Haha

Yes that is a good point... The rebellious post-straightening poof is real.

I'm with @Psychchick09 - I'm just gonna wear it curly. I don't even own a flatiron anymore and am certainly not going to buy one just for this. My backup plan is to just say a prayer and wear it in a low bun :shrug:

:arghh:I'm feeling so looow right now. Got rejected by an APPIC site I applied to as a safety school. Terrifying.

This happened to me too - and I think it's common! A "safety" place may be able to tell that you aren't likely to rank them highly. They'd rather invite people they think they have good chance of getting.

I must not have been a good fit, so its not where I need to be. Everyone at this point in the game is smart and well qualified. Its about fit. If I do not fit, my self-worth does not deserve to be equated with invitation or rejection from any internship site. This feels hard to believe sometimes (2 rejections, no invites), but I know it to be true. Things that are helping me remember this are: I have a beautiful supportive wife, good friends i can count on, and have other places where I fit.

This is super inspiring and helpful.

Some thoughts having read the posts since I was last logged on:

I think people are overthinking what to wear to interviews. Obviously you want to look professional and presentable! And have things that fit you, and that you feel confident and comfortable in. But my friends that interviewed last year, and all placed, did not wear a full suit to every interview. I highly doubt a place won't match you because your hair was a bit frizzy, or your shell is patterned instead of a solid color, or because you wore a blazer + pants rather than a full suit. I don't believe my best friend (who matched last year) even owns a suit. She wore professional dresses + tights.

But as far as packing advice: roll your clothes! This can help with wrinkles. And also makes more space in your bag. Stuff your underwear and socks inside crevices such as your shoes. Also, Downy wrinkle release spray. Test it on the fabric before you us it on the whole item, but this stuff works MAGIC and you can buy it in a travel size places like Target.

i would stay in DC friday night, then train to Boston for Saturday night and relax. I don't know the price off the top of my head, but the train is cheaper than another round trip flight for sure. Just a thought!

I hadn't even thought of using the train! I actually live pretty much in between those two places, so I was going to drive to DC, come home for a day to re-pack, and then drive to Boston. That sounds kind of horrifying, though. :xf:please don't snow:xf:

Has anyone heard from or know of anyone who heard from James Madison's UCC?

Nobody I know has heard from WPIC. I'd also be interested if anyone else has heard from University of Washington's Child Track. If you're not comfortable posting, feel free to PM me.

I think one person on here heard but still radio silence on my end. It's the worst 🤔

While we are on this track - I know I’ve asked here before but has anyone personally or know someone who has heard from Oregon Health & Sciences
From what I read they’ve normally notified by now

This might be me as well (though for a different Boston site), though it's less of a problem since I live in DC. I imagine for some of my interviews I'll be flying directly from one town for an interview to another!

On a lighter note, whilst browsing through old threads, I came across a post that someone submitted SEVENTY SIX applications one year (2014 I think?). Did anyone beat it this year!? I sure hope not, for your wallet's sake.

Holy moly! Here I thought I applied for a lot with 18....
