2020-2021 Weill Cornell

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks everyone for the responses! Quick follow-up: is there a separate Zoom link for the presentations & virtual tour? I only received one link for interviews so just wanted to double check.

Nope! Just one Zoom link - they use breakout rooms for all the different parts of the day. You're not missing anything haha

Does anyone know if they are receptive to pre-II letters of interest? This is definitely my top school but I don't want to annoy them haha
If you check your complete email, they have instructions on how to submit!

"You may send us occasional, substantive application updates if appropriate. Please send any such updates to [email protected], attaching your update as a Word or PDF file with the file name in the following format: lastname_firstname_AAMCID_ date. You will receive a confirmation email. Please do not include other queries or information in the email; questions should be directed to our main email address."

If anyone else was interested, both of my interviews were also very conversational and low-stress. There were some thought experiments and philosophical questions (e.g. "how would you use X money for Y problem"), but these were prompted from my PS and activities. Good luck to those with upcoming interviews!

Can anyone who has interviewed let me know how long the interviews are? 30mins, or 1hr? Can't seem to find info on this.

My first one was almost an hour (they ended about ten minutes early, they said it was to give me time to prepare for next one since it was right after). The next one was about the same, they ended the interview after a little under an hour. You are given the full hour but how long you end up taking probably depends on your interviewer.

I did not receive their names in advance.

Does anyone know till when they would be sending interview invites?

does anyone know when they make decisions on rejection/acceptance after interviews

Does anyone know what the post-interview acceptance rate for this school looks like?

Reportedly around 40%! But that number I believe is after accepting people off the waitlist too.
I wonder if it will be lower this year? Interviews offered may go up because it is easier to interview remotely while the number of seats will obviously stay the same.

Yeah, I was wondering the same too. I've read that Cornell received a 10% increase in applications this year but don't know if they're interviewing more than usual...

Or they will interview the same number of people but have a higher acceptance rate since more people seem to be hoarding II and A's this cycle (due to virtual interviewing)

It also seems they are kind of behind this cycle (most recent II reported here are still July complete dates). I wonder if that means they will even have the time to interview extra people 🤔

For those wondering, the dates are 1/5 - 1/7 and 1/12 - 1/14. Can't schedule online. Gotta email them the preference and they will email back confirmation in one week.

Hey everyone! I just recently made an account to SDN, nice to meet all of you! Quick question... for those of you who have already interviewed, how long is the virtual interview day, i.e. at what time does it start/end? I have some PTO problems at work (thanks, COVID) that I need to suss out.

Damn it feels like they're literally never going to make it to late July lol
As a late July complete, I feel exactly the same way... I alternate between excitement about potentially still being in the running and shriveling up inside from fear that I've been silently passed over. apps have destroyed my spirit lol

A MD/PhD! I'm so excited!!! Interviewed in November
Woah, congratulations!

I guess the following sentence from their secondary app form isn't that accurate then lol
"Weill Cornell Medical College does not have rolling admissions. Interviews begin in September and the class is selected in March."

This is specific to the MSTP. I interviewed in Nov and they told me the MSTP makes decisions on Dec 15th for their first batch of interviews. Congrats to @theOshow! Still hitting refresh on my email but slowly accepting that I may have gotten that R

Ah makes sense, thanks for clearing that up
