Does Cornell reject at end of cycle?

518, 3.9x
also sent an update back in December, but not sure if that had any impact

One of the interviewers hardly gave me any chance to speak. He was pointing out that NYC is not for everybody etc. Anybody else have a tough interview like this?

It’s possible they were testing how you handle stress/difficult conversations. I’ve had a couple of stress interviews like that at other schools where and I feel you they are so tough. But I think in these it’s really hard to know how it went so I wouldn’t stress too much about it.

Both my interviews were very laid back & conversational

If the interviewer stopped talking, I could have spoken 😂

II this morning! Can anyone speak about the financial aid? I heard Cornell is a debt free school, but I'm wondering how true this is.

edit: complete mid-July!

Did anyone who received an II recently send an update? I sent an update a couple months ago and have not received an II despite having almost identical stats to people who recently received an interview (obviously there's a ton of other factors tho). This is my top choice!!!

I got an II yesterday and didn’t send an update

hey! current M1 here. it is indeed "debt free", although that's not necessarily true for everyone. basically, they calculate your expected financial contribution based on FAFSA/CSS (say, $20k/year) and give you grants for everything else that comprises the total cost of attendance (so if COA is $80k and you can pay $20k, then you get $60k in grants). you can still take out loans for that $20k instead of paying out of pocket if you want (meaning you'd still incur debt, despite getting a "debt free" scholarship).

all that being said, it's pretty variable how helpful this is depending on each individual situation. for me personally, the debt free grants have worked out great and makes my bill less expensive than even my state schools.

also, in case this is helpful--cornell is pretty receptive to update letters imo. i interviewed in nov, sent them an update letter in jan, got waitlisted in march, sent a letter of intent in april-ish, then was accepted off the waitlist in may. shoot your shot my friends!!

hey! do you know if they have any financial assistance for international students? On their website, it says there is nothing and that debt free doesn't apply to internationals but I was wondering if maybe there was anything I couldn't find online. Most of the T10 and T20 schools that accept internationals have some financial options for internationals and I was shocked to see Cornell had none.

I don’t think int’ students can get financial aid. But from their website int’ students need to pay four years’ tuition (and fees) up front. I believe it’s in the FAQ page. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I believe UCLA might be the only school offer merit based scholarship to int students.

Penn WashU UCLA and Stanford I think have merit based options. Columbia Harvard Mount Sinai Yale Brown Hopkins and some others have need based aid for internationals. But sad Cornell doesnt have anything 🙁

Have you guys received email confirmation about your interview date yet (like after we sent in our session preferences)? They said to expect a response within one business day, but I haven't heard anything yet... I know things could be delayed since schools are swamped, but I just wanna check to make sure there's nothing wrong on my end lol

In the last batch, they did not send anything for over a week, so I got in touch and they sent me mine and also notified that it is usually the Friday before the interview that we get the official notification. However, I got that I think on the Wednesday before.

Ohh okay, that's really helpful to know. Thanks for the info!

I received a confirmation of my session choice that same day. In the email, they said to expect more details about the schedule the week before the interview!

Yeah I also sent a follow-up email to confirm my interview date; it wouldn't hurt to do so

anyone who interviewed recently know whats going on here? seems really behind?
I called them yesterday morning and they said they still plan on interviewing well into feb, possibly march depending on how the cycle goes. definitely one of the more "behind" schools this cycle, but I'm glad they're still interviewing.

how did you get a hold of them? I've been calling all week and nobody answers the phone

Did anyone send thank you notes after their interview?

For the people who have interviewed, when did you get the names of your interviewers before the interview?

Yes to the MS4 interviewer. Other one asked to call his Secretary to find out email address!
