Also, trying to keep in mind that a lot of schools were behind giving out acceptances/rejections/waitlist for March/April Interviews due to COVID. Lots of hope over these next few weeks (although the wait is truly painful). Anyone know if movement typically happens over the weekend--I know this can be school specific, but asking more in a general sense. Hang in there everyone

Technically, AAMC suggestions are simply that - suggestions. Schools technically enforce their own rules. Many if not all state in acceptance protocols you must PTE and withdraw all other offers by April 30th, 11:59p.m. I know my current PTE option functions this way and sent multiple reminders about it. Plus, if you check out the main forums, there's already been at least one post of someone who received an offer off WL today-- and are unfortunately but understandably upset that they had less than a day to respond.
I think schools acknowledge this difficulty with the deadline, thats why more acceptances are likely to be from tomorrow onward.

It’s school specific so you’ll have to email the school that accepted you about PTE and the school you already had an acceptance to.

TLDR: if you don’t know what to do email your schools lol

  1. Permit all applicants:
    1. A minimum of five business days to respond to an acceptance offer. This may be reduced to a minimum of two business days within 30 days of the start of orientation.
    2. To submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.
 
Ugh today has been going at a snail’s pace! We got this franz. 11:59 pm. We can do it. Just finished work for the day (I’m in my gap year working as a scribe) and you can bet I’ll be refreshing sdn/choose your medical school tool/school threads the rest of the evening lollllllll just like every day the past few months

This is for applicants accepted prior to April 30th. It says it’s the length of time to respond to the offer . After this date , the length of time they give you to accept changes , and it may be school specific I think [emoji848]

Hey guys, I just want to give my 2 cents. I've been following SDN threads for a while now and have even been through this waitlist process myself last year.
I think we should all be very realistic about our chances of getting off WLs. Having hope is fine, but it can quickly turn into anxiety and neuroticism. Checking your email every 10 min, refreshing websites, and having your heart skip a beat every time you receive a notification can really distract you from the important things in your life (school, family, faith, significant others, job. . .ect). It really wears you down. Needlessly worrying about your chances of getting off a WL can really negatively impact your life and mental health. This is made worse by the fact that 99% of us are not going to get off a WL tomorrow. If we do hear back, it probably won't be for weeks or months. If you really have nothing better else to do then the best thing is to prepare to reapply.

So please, try to stay off the computer or your school specific thread and focus on other things. It will be hard for the first few days to stop hitting that refresh button but in a matter of time it will get easier. If you get off a WL then rest assured that your school will make sure to contact you. Remain hopeful but be realistic with yourselves. Good luck everyone!
 
i have one acceptance, but am on waitlists at schools i like much better!! my acceptance has a requirement that we PTE at their school by April 30th if we want to attend. they are my only acceptance so far so i have to act like i am attending. since schools can see which students have a PTE to another school, does this put my at a disadvantage against other students who dont PTE somewhere? i sent letters of interest to the schools that would take them but my very top choice does not accept any updates of any kind and i am nervous they will see that i have chosen PTE for somewhere else, and not select me from the waitlist!

Failing to PTE won't encourage any school to take you off a waitlist. Not doing so could keep you from matriculating at the school that has accepted you.

Question...so I sent an update about a month ago, but my plans were greatly altered these last 3 weeks because of having to come home and help on the family farm as we prepare for the dire situation of having to slaughter 2000 pigs that we raise with meat packing plants closing. Should I send in an update about my changes and my commitment to rural community life (plan to practice in a rural community) and make it like a letter of intent? or just an update?

I'm in the exact same boat as you, feeling depressed, and replanning my study schedule. But I want you to know no matter what YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH!! But do not give up just yet, there is still hope. Don't stay down or depressed, keep praying!! You will be a doctor my friend 🙂 Bless you
 
I'm feeling the nerves along with y'all, seriously. Dunno if it might help with curbing the neuroticism, but would any of y'all be interested in a streaming party or something tomorrow or sometime over the weekend? It can pass the time, not to mention we can all hang out and (hopefully) chill.

Nah, man, you’re good. No offense taken.

Plus what works for some people doesn’t work for others. I offered the suggestion after reflecting on my experience waiting-I don’t do good with sitting and trying to pass time on my own; interactive things and hanging out with like-minded others help me a lot (wish I’d reached out during my WL experience lol). Maybe others operate the same way too, but the methods we use to get there might vary.

On the waitlist for MCW-Green Bay. In March, I wrote (in my opinion) a valuable letter of intent and update. I had new shadowing and activities to update them on.

Wondering if I should send another update to show interest or if it would be more harmful than helpful if I didn't have significant updates.

Hi all,

I have been been a longtime lurker on this post but just wanted to say thank you to everyone for sharing their experiences. I had 5 interviews this cycle, with 4 WL and 1 UC and it has been tough. Congratulations to everyone who has gotten the acceptance and I am rooting for all of us that are still waiting!
