2022-2023 APPIC Internship Interview Invitation Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This sounds optional and if so, probably purely for your benefit and it’s also possible there may not be time during the interview day to interact with interns so you might miss out on valuable info (which I found super beneficial and helped me to clarify my rankings).

I think it would be uncommon for current interns to be asked for evaluative feedback following a Q&A or social type event or have it be held against you for not being able to attend.
I know that current grad students are often asked for evaluative feedback following interview days at their universities. I also have seen internship sites disclaim that current interns would share their impressions with the faculty following meetings with prospective interns. So, I would definitely treat any interaction as an evaluative meeting.

So I know there's still time, but I wonder if anyone has heard from Montefiore Medical Center?

Rejection email from UC Irvine Counseling Center today, personal email.

Not a big surprise given they were doing phone calls for interviews early last week.

Do you know if it was by email or phone call? Also if email was it a mass email?
I’m not close with her. I meant to say a peer of mine. We were in supervision and she was super excited and said she had an interview. I think she is doing neuro

Hey yall!

I applied to Appalachian State University and University of Buffalo. I saw that they sent out offers. Is anyone aware if either of these sites offer rolling interviews?
For anyone who is looking at this, ASU contacted me an invited me for an interview. The University of Buffalo Counseling center has not sent out interviews, the spreadsheet was for University of Buffalo Psychiatry 🙂

Oh ok, thanks! I am doing general so that's somewhat comforting lol. But thank you!

Thank you guys for responding 🙂 I ended up cancelling my other commitment and attending.. and I'm so happy I did. It was very, very helpful. They even shared a hint for the interview (there there will be a vignette), so I definitely recommend attending things like this in the future for other people who are on the fense.

Just got an interview invite from the Royal in Ottawa.

Email mentions that today is "Universal Response Day designated by CCPPP" so it looks like all Canadian sites will extend offers today. Good luck to everyone who applied to places in Canada as well!

Hey, I heard back from one in Canada today. As per the CCPPP is it that we can't send the scheduling email response until 11 am on 12/6?

Asking because I'm pretty sure my invite had a typo on the date we could respond by.

I was confused at first as well. But yes, it looks like we can't reply with our interview preferences until 12/6 at 11am EST... interesting!

I saw on the spreadsheet that mass rejections for Mount Sinai Beth Israel went out yesterday and invites were sent on 11/19 - has anyone else not heard either way?

I have not heard either way 🙁 Same for Long Island Jewish Medical Center and RUSK (and a few other places)

Hey everyone! Sending out good vibes to all  (I've been lurking for a while and wanted to say hello!)

This might be a long shot, but would anyone happen to know how to access Manchester (NH) VAMC and their internship brochure. I'm currently kicking myself for not saving it to my computer as now it does not seem visible on their site. Would it look bad if I emailed them asking for it? Was hoping to avoid that but I can't seem to find it anywhere on their site or through APPIC. Thanks in advance!

Anyone have any insight on Cleveland Clinic Peds? I saw in the doc that they sent out ped psych interviews, but I am wondering if the interview was specifically for that track or if it was an interview for someone who applied to more than one track? Keeping my fingers crossed that they are still coming!!

Related to this - for those with experience or knowledge, what is typically given with a vignette and what is typically asked of the applicant?

You will probably get more responses if you post this as a new thread, I would be super interested in finding out as well!

I got a few during my internship year (as well as at subsequent job interviews - all VA).

You'll likely be presented some detailed psychosocial and psychiatric info on a patient (probably helpful to take notes), potentially have an option to ask for additional info (one job interview 'left' out some info that their initial vignette was supposed to clue you into further inquiring about), and then be asked one or more patient care related questions (e.g., what would you prioritize in treatment? what treatment would you recommend? what barriers do you anticipate and how might you navigate them?). Think of it as if you just did an intake and you're now talking about treatment with a supervisor.

Your answer should ideally showcase your clinical decision making skills as many vignettes might have multiple 'acceptable' outcomes so you're more likely to be rated for the process than the result.

Yes, I had one site on internship interviews that did this sort of thing orally in the interview about a clinical/ethical situation related to mandated reporting and this site also required us to complete a writing assignment while there.

I've heard about this a couple of times. Can someone please explain what is meant by a writing assignment?

Judge Baker's notification day is today. Has anyone heard anything? Nothing on the google doc.
