2025 VIRMP Match

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did they indicate that they'd be sending waves of emails out? I was at the meeting last night and don't remember them saying that but I could have missed it. I just didn't receive any email from them today, I've checked my spam and trash (in case I accidentally deleted it) and I have nothing 😧 Who did the email come from? šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
It got sent by the committee members I believe. It was sent by 1 person but had other MSU emails CCed in it.

Hm very interesting 🤨I definitely didn't get this email then. I'd be accepting if they didn't like my app - but I just want to figure out why I'm not receiving emails since I thought they said they'd email all applicants either way today šŸ˜…

Hello all! Apologies if similar threads have been made before, but I was hoping to get some insight as a 4th year currently applying for a SA rotating internship through VIRMP.

If anyone here has done an internship or know someone who has done one at a big private practice - especially AMC, VCAWLA, Friendship, Angell, Redbank - I would love to talk about your experience! Or just any insight into things you've heard. I have contacted current interns for all the programs I applied to, but figure you can never learn too much!

For background, I am undecided about specializing but have interests in ECC and DI. If I don't pursue a residency, I'll go into ER after my internship. I want to end up in private practice and am hoping to get the didactic learning and mentorship with experience seeing a high caseload that these big private internships offer. Interviews are complete and now it's time to rank. I've made several spreadsheets listing pros and cons of each place but would just love some more info, if anyone has it!

Has anyone else gotten an interview email from CSU for SA rotating internship šŸ™‚?

I interned at Bluepearl Tampa - while it's not one of the 'popular' big rotating internships that you've got listed, it is a very big hospital (you rotate among different locations, too) and we had intern classes in the low 20s. One location has since split off, but I'm still happy to share my experience if it helps.

I interned (edit: I meant interviewed) for Friendship and decided not to rank them very high based off the info session with current interns, but this was for 2019-2020. I don't know what they have improved since then.

Hello everyone!

I was wondering how much value/weight I should put into the programs that have emailed me after my interviews saying that they are going to rank me as their ā€œtop tierā€ or that they see me as a ā€œstrong applicantā€ when I am submitting my rankings. Few private practices and couple of academic places have sent me this email and I am not sure if they actually mean this or how many people they are sending this email to. I did not apply to places that I do not want to go to but also I don’t have a strong preference on one single program. I feel that each program has its strengths and weaknesses and I have to balance what is the most important to me at this point in my career and life in general.

If anyone has any insight on this, please let me know!! Thank you in advance šŸ™‚

I would make my rankings based only on where I wanted to go. The algorithm leans toward benefitting the applicant's rank over the programs'. If you truly have no preference, reach out to current interns if you haven't. They'll usually give you the info that's going to make or break your ranking. Don't forget to consider COL, availability for electives, and any other factors that might influence your choice (overnight ER, primary surgeon experience, etc.).

Honestly my answer to what those emails could mean depends on where they came from. There are some private practices out there that send stuff like this to every applicant. If you're comfortable posting who sent you those, you might be able to compare to others who have applied/interviewed at the same programs.

I reached out to interns to get another perspective for the top places I applied to. It was very insightful and gave me some answers I didn’t realize I had questions about. Highly recommend since we are almost to the deadline.

This may be a dumb question, but is it frowned upon or not allowed to reach out to a program about where they might rank you? For context, I was recently offered a position for a specialty internship outside of the match that I like and would be a good fit for me. However, there is one program within the match that is more focused on what I want to do for my career and would be a better fit. The program in the match mentioned that I am one of their highly ranked applicants prior to my intervew. I think my interview with them went well, but it is hard for me to turn down the program outside of the match without having a better idea of where I will be ranked by the program in the match.

This is not true. My friend is finishing her IM residency and has her contract sign and in hand. 275k base with 25% production that she is expected to make within the first quarter. I also know multiple GPs in the area she's moving that don't even hit 275k with their production. I live in Denver and don't know a GP that makes 275k with production either. The only folks I know making that much base are specialty and VEG ER docs.
That honestly is on par with what I've heard for friends finishing residency in the last couple years over a broad range of locations. Production for them wasn't on top of that though, it was only if their production pay beat out the base that they would get paid the extra (which I think is standard for pro-sal?).
ECC here, nationwide I’ve seen/ been offered 200-210K with 23-27% production

Friendship got hit HARD by COVID and lost a ton of specialists. They’re trying to rebuild, but they’re nowhere near the powerhouse they were back in the day.

How would you say Friendship compares to other large private practices such as VCA West LA & Red Bank?

Most places probably won’t tell you anything. And even if they say they’re ranking you highly, that may mean different things to different people. I’d take the sure thing, personally.

Whoops - meant to say I interviewed with them, not interned. I got the impression that they were a big bustling place, but the interns were not happy

Has anybody been an intern at or heard about the rotating internship at Pieper Veterinary hospital in CT?

I spoke with one of the current interns who loves it (the biggest negative she mentioned was the neuro service, which starts MRIs at 5am so all of your patients have to be rounded on before that), and I also spent a few hours there touring the hospital and shadowing and I came away with a very positive impression of their mentorship and (relative) quality of life!

I have not been an intern there, nor did I apply there. However, I am a CT resident and have 3 friends who work there as techs and receptions! They are pretty happy with working there and have been there for a long time. There is also a lot to do in the surrounding area.

I reached out to CSU and they stated interviews are not required for their rankings.
Would you mind sharing who said that? I emailed the internship director about the interviews, but got no response. I didn't get an interview so I thought there's no point ranking them now

In the interest of sharing info, I got an email today from UMN letting me know they’ve ranked me highly for their rotating internship. Best of luck to everyone working on their rank lists- don’t forget they’re due by 9pm EST on the 14th!!!

For SA Rotating Internship Has anyone heard from these places with an interest email?
Auburn Uni
Uni of Georgia
Saskatchewan

Also any idea, for diversity positions, what do they exactly look for in applicants?

Does anyone know how often NC State reaches out with interest emails? I know they don't hold formal interviews, but I got an email a few days ago

How would you say Friendship compares to other large private practices such as VCA West LA & Red Bank?
I’m not in a residency or internship at any of these places (I’m in GP) but one of my friends is at Red Bank and they would say RB is far better than friendship. They’ve said that Red Bank has had a TON of growth in the last few years but they haven’t seen the same from VCA West LA.

Depends on the program. Check the program description.

Make sure to follow instructions because many of the diversity position require an additional statement/letter. In my experience, many applicants don't follow these instructions.

I finalized my rank lists today, so I guess now it's time for me to sit in a corner and feel nauseated until next month
I have a countdown app on my phone lock screen that tells me how many days til match day and I can't tell if it's helping of fueling the anxiety LOL

I would not be able to function with that

Does anyone have experience or input about the small animal internship at Blue Pearl in Kirkland WA?

Thank you in advance!!

Sharing specific questions is not really a great idea, although we don’t sign something specifically forbidding it. You can find standard interview questions and tips in many places on the internet.
3rd year lurker but I'm rooting for you!!!!

Submitted my ranking last night, it doesn't feel real 🤠 Now time to try to forget about it for the next 2 weeks!

Hi, I just wanted to clarify. What did they email you about a few days ago? I applied there and ranked them but am wondering if I should reach to let them know I'm still interested, or if they already sent out interest e-mails and I didn't make the cut. Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone has received interest emails from Penn, UGA, or NC state! I already submitted my rank order, but I'm trying to gauge what these places think of me as an applicant. Thanks!

They just emailed saying I had a good application packet and asked if I had questions! But I don’t think that automatically means you didn’t make the cut

I heard from NC State but not UGA

Match Day is so close! Looking for insight on the scramble. Hoping to not scramble, but I want to be prepared. Is it normal to draft an email the night before to send out in the morning to open positions or is it better to call places with open positions? Good luck to everyone!

Personally, I would call. Calling moves much faster than email. Programs that need to scramble will both call and email.
