Has anyone heard back from Michigan State SA rotating?

Has anyone heard from Wheat Ridge or Colorado Animal Specialty & Emergency for SA rotating?

Are you willing to share which academic specialty internships notified you that they have completed interviews? I also applied to specialty internships in wildlife/zoo medicine and it would be helpful to know which programs are no longer contacting applicants about interviews.
Yes of course. Washington State and Colorado. I am still waiting on a response from Cornell.

Have you heard back from anywhere? Or know of anyone who have?
Nothing yet! 4 interns I know and I haven’t heard from academia about surgery residency or specialty internship. I only know of someone who’s had interviews with academia (not sure which schools)

Do you recommend sending an email to your top choice for internship to hint that you are ranking them first in a professional manner?

It would be nice if programs and VIRMP had a way to communicate to applicants. A statement on programs stating all interviews invites were completed. A form of communication on the site for interview invites. And finally a rejection notification if the aren’t going to rank you. Waiting on the academic institutions is stressful.

Checking my email and spam folder every day and multiple times day is horrible. The anxiety of wondering if you have no chance just seems unfair. At least for jobs and the programs I applied to outside the match they tell you where you stand.

I got an email from Wheat Ridge last week to set up an interview. Hope you hear from them soon!
They also sent out a survey we had to fill out in a word document on the 15th.

Hi, good evening.
I’m wondering, has anyone heard back from academics regarding SAIM residencies?

Thank you

You can reach out to programs and ask.

Ah. I did not receive the email with the survey. Guessing I just didn’t make their cut off. Thanks for the info.

I did. I emailed each of the academics individually about the required interviews. Most got back to me stating interviews were completed and they won’t rank an applicant they don’t interview. One place said they were conducting interviews. Waiting around to know if interviews are done is the issue. If the program could state interview invites or interviews are completed by a certain date that helps. I work full time so wondering if I need time off for an interview last minute isn’t professional. I want transparency, this field is a small world. If a program isn’t interested just tell me sooner than never.

Was CSU one of them by any chance?

Yes. I would email them directly and just ask if they have completed interviews and if they would rank an applicant they don’t interview. They got back to me within the hour when I emailed the contact listed on the program.
CSU already conducted interviews? :O

I reached out for the specific program I applied to. If you want to ask email the person listed as the point of contact for whichever program you applied to. Mine was a speciality internship and residency.

Was this for small animal rotating internships?

Not for small animal rotating
I reached out about small animal rotating. Honestly, I've emailed both their listed emails 3x total with different questions and I haven't had a single email reply. They might be annoyed with me at this point.

I hope you get your questions addressed and a response early next week. I gave up on hearing back from my remaining academic place. I fully expect to be ghosted. I get the exponential applications. However, a simple rejection email would suffice so we can move on and stop worrying for two more weeks. I’ll be manifesting positive vibes for you.

We just need to survive 13 more days until ranks are due, then hopefully those last 2 weeks will go by much quicker until match day!
(I am dying inside ❤️)

Having been on both sides of the match at this point, rejection doesn't really exist in the world of matching for a reason. It's kinda similar to being waitlisted for admissions. I know it still sucks to be waiting and not have closure, though.

I am trying to decide if it would be "weird" to email my top choice as we get closer to rank day to let them know I am highly interested in their position. Or is this frowned upon? I don't want to seem too forward, but I also really am hoping to match there. Thoughts?

Not worth the time and effort, most likely. Probably won’t hurt anything but it’s doubtful they’d change their rankings based upon you saying you want to go there. They know/presume that or you wouldn’t have applied.

SA rotating internship applicant here - I applied mostly private practice (AMC, Angell, Redbank, Friendship, VCAWLA) which all interview every applicant. I felt like interviews went well but have no idea if there's any unspoken rules about following up after interviews and have no idea what to expect in terms of how they will rank me. Should I reach out now that interviews are done to touch base or just let it be?

I did apply to NC State and UPenn who say they do not do interviews on VIRMP. For places that don't do interviews, I'm just no confident I'll rank. My application was good, but I know I'm not the top 1% so it's slightly discouraging and anxiety-inducing.

ALSO, how do places know if we passed NAVLE? I add one ask but some interviewed before results even came out so I'm not sure how to let places know.

Does anyone happen to know anyone who has actually been interviewed/called by CSU for their small animal rotating internship? I reached out last week to the internship director to see if all the interview invites had been sent out yet, but I got no response. No one I know who applied had an interview yet with them, but we're getting so close to ranking day, I'm starting to lose hope...

Only one of my interviews asked specifically about the NAVLE and if I had taken it yet. I did make it a point to ask them about NAVLE since I'm taking it in April and wont have results until well after the match and each location I talked too had different things to say. If you passed it then I wouldn't worry about it until after you match somewhere, so as to then begin the next step in obtaining state licensure where your internship will be and so on. Most if not all private listings require a passed NAVLE as listed on their VIRMP listing since they don't have an academic license for you to work under and you will need a state license. Some academic locations will not have the NAVLE listed as a requirement to start the internship as you can work under their academic license provisionally if you were to need to retake the NAVLE that year.

As far as reaching out, most privates that interviewed me sent some sort of follow up "thank you for interviewing with us" and to follow up if you have any questions prior to rank submissions. I don't think it's worth trying to mention anything to them about how your placement or rank is as @JaynaAli mentioned before, it probably won't change anything in the grand scheme of things.

No one I know, nor myself, got contacted by CSU either

I just got an interview invite via email late last night, so maybe they just started reaching out?

They won't know unless you tell them. Generally it's been assumed that you will pass because the odds (historically) show that you will. With the decreasing pass rates, I'm surprised these programs aren't directly asking you these days. We started asking our interviewees about their NAVLE results after the first class I helped bring in (2020-2021) had ~1/4 show up and then find out they failed the spring test, so had to work as a tech or leave.

I don't think it would ever be considered harmful to send a quick email letting places know you've passed and are all set. Whether or not this would actually influence a program's ranking is on them. Luckily, this isn't going to be an issue for you because you've passed.

Also, as for reaching out post-interview, definitely not harmful, but won't probably won't sway anything. I can only speak for myself, but I knew by the end of the interview whether or not I was going to pull for you to be ranked by my program or not. An email reiterating interest/thank you wouldn't have changed that either way, but a pleasant email thanking me for taking time to talk with you is always appreciated.

Does anyone know how applying to opportunities in Europe affect applying to American opportunities? Like if you apply to VIRMP residencies, will you find out from (random example) Royal Veterinary College about their residency positions prior to the match date? I tried looking up online but I cannot find more information on their timeline other than interviews being January/February.

I’m a current rotating intern at a private practice. I don’t remember being asked in interviews, but after match day, they did have a survey asking if you had passed the NAVLE yet (including both people who had failed and people who were taking it for the first time in April). I didn’t pass my first try, so the day NAVLE results came out in May, my internship director just contacted me to ask. I don’t think she knew or cared if I had failed my first try or simply didn’t take the December exam. I do know people who failed the April exam and lost internships though.

I just got an email that they just reviewed the applicants and wont be doing any interviews this year! Sounds like it'll be application only eval

Additionally, not sure if either of you had the chance to attend the info session yesterday - they also said they would send inital 'emails of interest' on the email I just received regarding the lack of interviews it also stated they liked my application. I believe the session was not recorded (mistake on their end, sadly)

Did they indicate that they'd be sending waves of emails out? I was at the meeting last night and don't remember them saying that but I could have missed it. I just didn't receive any email from them today, I've checked my spam and trash (in case I accidentally deleted it) and I have nothing 😧 Who did the email come from? 😵‍💫

To clarify since I feel like I sounded REALLY stressed out there: I'm worried my email isn't receiving emails, which has happened to me in the past. I was under the impression they'd be reaching out to all candidates today (someone correct me if I'm wrong then I'll stop thinking my email is broken), so I want to be sure my email address didn't get input wrong or that my server isn't blocking their emails from reaching me. That would be really tragic.

Because the algorithm favors the applicants choices, it doesn’t affect your overall chances of matching to rank a place that doesn’t rank you back. So even if you didn’t hear anything from a place, if you still want to go there, it’s still fine to rank it in your order of preference. If that place doesn’t rank you back, the system just passes on down to the next place on your list trying to make another match, so there’s no harm in ranking a “reach” program.
