Hi all!

So I have 5 days left in my prep. I have been intermittently doing Q bank and UW qbank so those scores really aren't of any use for predictions. on the NBME forms:

Written NBME - 360 - 5 weeks before
NBME 1- 460 - 3 weeks before
NBME 2 - 470 - 2 weeks before
NBME 3 - 470 - 1 week before

I can't seem to break over 500. Any advice on what are the most high yield topics to study? I am planning to study my weak areas this week really hard, and do some memorizing like theres no tomorrow. Any other ideas?

Also, does anyone know the most likely cause of pneumonia in an IV drug user?

Thanks for your help guys!

Thanks!
J

Well, it's Klebsiella for alcoholics.

Just looked in 1st aid. States that for alcoholics and IV drug users: S. pneumoniae, Klebsiella, and Staph.

My test is tomorrow, and I've just been pounding the material I'm weaker in, and going over high yields in Goljan and 1st aid today. My scores are similar to yours: 470 and 510, forms 4 and 3 respectively.

yeah i think thats the best strategy. thanks and good luck!

any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

I say pound pharm and micro the day before if you must study (I have flashcards for both topics, so it's easy for me). I find the little details for those stick REALLY well for me if I just do rote memorization and repetition the day before.

Echo this, and hit biochem important enzymes. Look at rate-limiting steps and what can inhibit/activate things. I had a handful of receptor-type questions on my test too, so look over that page in the pharm section of first aid.

Off to the wards...
