In the MCAT forum there was a "Vegas Line" thread for score predictions. I was wondering if anybody would like to join me in an acceptance prediction thread. I think to make it work these have to be yes/no predictions, but after that we can talk about degrees of certainty 🙂

(I'm not going to post mine until somebody agrees to join me, because I don't want to look like a chump 😛)

Oh, no! I'm not superstitious, but this is pushing it. Plus, the process is a little too random.

I don't know about acceptances, but I'm fairly sure I'll get rejected from Harvard and Johns Hopkins

Ooh me too, me too!

Hmm, I guess MoosePilot has a point. I've just been thinking about where I might get in. My problem is that I feel fairly optimistic, but then I come to my senses and realize that I just can't know until I find out! I can't believe we have to wait so long to get a decision from some schools; even a waitlist or a rejection, rather than just not knowing! AECOM sends decisions in January, and Penn in February, I think.

Of course I'm getting ahead of myself. At this point I would like interviews 😛

I'll take you up tig

1:14 odds that I get accepted (I applied to 14, I hope to get into 1)
any takers?

oh yeah a 99.999999% chance that Harvard shreds my file upon receipt of my $80 application fee (I'm hoping for an outside shot)

Heh. I'll happily predict my rejections 🙂

UCSF
UChicago
Cornell
Mayo
Northwestern
Penn
Stanford
Yale

OK, so I applied to a lot of reaches... it's only money

Great Thread...too bad pre-meds are a cowardly and superstitious lot.

Potential Acceptance:
Ross University
St. George

wasn't this the purpose of picking safety, ballpark and reach schools?

I'm more concerned about interviews

I just want lots and lots of interviews. That's the funnest part of the process anyway 🙂

Yeah, that's me. I aint touching this prediction business with a 10 foot pole.

I predict that I won't get in anywhere unless I get off of my keester and submit these secondaries!

I didn't get interviews at ANY of the schools I thought I had a good chance of acceptance at. I got interviews from schools I never thought I had a chance at. I got accepted at two schools that I didn't add until later in the process.

I would've totally failed this prediction game. Predicting acceptances is nothing like predicting MCAT scores.

What if you started a poll, list the schools you are applying to and your and people could predict your number of acceptances for you. It would probably work best if you have an mdapps profile to post for the poll, but you could just list some basic stats for the vote. You wouldn't get a prediction for each school, but it would create an interesting over/under, especially if enough people voted to create a bell curve.

Will, that could work if you don't limit the number of responses i.e. pick all that will reject. Good spin on the what are my chances threads.

Well I was thinking just list the schools, and then the poll question would be, "How many places will I be accepted?" And the options would just be 1 through the number of schools you are applying. It wouldn't be school specific, but you could probably figure out which schools people thought you would get into or not get into just based on the selectivity of the schools you applied to, unless there are other factors (in-state or undergrad affiliation or something). So I think it would be kind of cool, although one problem would be that everyone who wanted to play would have to make their own thread and people might get annoyed because it is kind of like "What are my chances?" threads, only with a games twist to it. But that really shouldn't bother people too much.

I'm not sure you understood but you could list the schools as the poll options and say which school will I be accepted at and they go through and click ones they think you could get accepted at. Then it will graphically say which schools most people think you would get into. They can check multiple boxes as well.

Wow u guys waste wayyyyyy too much time on these forums

Oh yeah, that sounds like the best way. I didn't know you could make a poll that you could vote for more than one option on.

I dont know why I think this of all schools, but I am willing to put money on Stanford being my swiftest, most decisive rejection. In fact, I see my paper sitting on someone's desk there, and them just slamming a huge "REJECTED" stamp on it, smiling evilly.

Hell, I'll bite, I got teh balls 😎

Accepted:

USC Keck, Stanford, Harvard, Cornell, UCLA

Rejected:

UC Irvine, UCSD, UCSF, Hopkins, Duke, OHSU.

That's all I applied to, because, like I said, I got teh balls :horns: :wow:

By 'teh balls' do you mean 4.00 and 40? 😉

More like bad advisers lol.

It's much more on the strength of my non-academic end, although I am also quite strong on academic stuff (not 40.0/40, but still way up there).

I'm pretty poor, so my adviser told me rather than waste the money, If I could just get an XX on the MCAT, I should pick my 11 schools (I have AMCAS FAP, get 11 schools for free) as schools I would be dying to get into, and don't bother with "safeties" etc.

Like I said, this is based on me being a VERY strong EC/LOR/maturity/disadvantaged/excellent leadership skills/exp kind of candidate with a ~3.8, who just happened to get lucky on the MCATs and scored above the XX my adviser "recommended".

So I guess what I mean is, though they are quite good, I'm so not applying on my numbers. My PS/essays, LORs, EC's, and most importantly interviews will get me in if I get in at all.

Yeah, that and the fact that I decided a long time ago that if I can't get into one of my top choices then I would just go ahead and shoot myself is what I mean by "teh balls". 👎

I tried to find a beer smilie to offer you, but all I could find was this clapper guy:

Good luck, but it doesn't look like luck is something you especially need. 👍

Actually last cycle, Stanford was one of the last schools to start sending out interview invitations. I don't think they sent out rejections until like December.
