I came across a website, <a href="http://www.positiveprofiles.com/resources/manual/," target="_blank">http://www.positiveprofiles.com/resources/manual/,</a> which had some good info.

My question is that it states that for the medical graduating class of 2003, the average acceptance rate for MD schools was about 44.9% and for DO schools about 35%. First, when I applied to medical schools (for the 1st time) in 1993, I don't remember high percentages like that. The site said that there were also about 2.5 applicants for every spot (it's including MD and DO with all of its statistics). If these numbers are correct, then am I to believe that MD schools are taking rougly half of their applicants and DO schools a lesser number?? It isn't making a lot of sense to me. I thought acceptance rates were more like 12-20% and, I know, that MD schools are more competitive than DO schools.

Anyone have some input?
