I seem to remember some old SDN convo where you were going to prove someone wrong about not being able to get into vet school with a low UG GPA? Anyway, congrats on kicking butt! :)

I think I already mentioned this, but I'm adding it in now. For anyone from the US thinking about Aussie schools but a little freaked out about moving down under, I am reading a really great, funny travel book by Bill Bryson about Australia. It really is a good read and can give you a feel for the country. It's called "In a Sunburned Country." Anyone else thinking about Melbourne or applied there? I can't seem to find anyone on this forum considering it:(
 
hi!! im from oz!! but im australian and go to university of queensland, i know most north americans don't consider UQ because its not accredited, though!:) but hey, any questions about aussie, ask away!

Hopefulvet, I am thinking of applying to Melbourne, but am worried I don't have the stats to get in. I have a lot of experience and decent GRE scores (1330: 590v/740m), but am lacking in the GPA department (3.22 cumulative.) Do you think I'd have a decent chance at acceptance to an australian school, or should I not bother applying unless I fix my GPA? (I realize this is a little off topic for this forum, so feel free to PM me!)

I PMed you, but I wanted to add to what i said in the message and let you know I think they only consider your science GPA. So if your cum. is low, but science is better then I wouldn't worry about it!

I talked to some Melbourne people at APVMA Symposium last year, and from what they told me, it sounds like you'd be a competitive applicant there. They said their GPA requirements are lower than US schools. That's not to say you don't stand a chance in the US. Anyway, I'd definitely encourage you to apply if you think that might be somewhere you'd like to go. I was going to apply to Melbourne myself, but I figured I'd try for US schools this year and if I didn't get in would look at more overseas next cycle. I studied abroad in Australia summer before last and absolutely loved it. Hopefulvet, I read In a Sunburned Country while I was travelling in Australia, and you're right; it's fantastic!

thanks, malhi. wow, word travels fast! yes, two of us who happened to be in the lobby, waiting for the commuter rail back to boston, were told by our interviewers as they walked out of their decision meeting. Patty from admissions had told us to take some cookies for the road, so i had a mouthful of cookie when the prof told me (so professional). relieved and grateful as i am, part of me wishes that everyone would get notified at the same time, so nobody has to get psyched out by waiting.

Oh my %$#%$#!! I can't believe it! I was so worried after reading about Malhi's phone call! (If you're curious, I admit it- I had been too chicken to post my interview bc last year I applied only to Penn, had an interview on the first day and then got rejected bc I had just graduated with a history major and hadn't even taken orgo II, physics II, orgo lab, or any upper level sciences yet. It was quite a blow, but thankfully everything worked out this year!!) Congrats to everyone else!!:)

Hey DVMorBust, that is awesome news :thumbup: !!! I had my roommate who had the day off text me at work when the mail came, but alas nothing from Tufts. I'm starting to get worried, but am still hoping it will come tomorrow or next week!

Hopefulvet21, I am FROM Melbourne and did a four year ag science degree at Melbourne Uni, so if you have any questions about the place generally, feel free to ask.

There is a Melbourne student who posts on here, Freyamaxine, but I haven't "seen" her round for a while (still its summer holidays here so she might have a bit more spare time than usual :) or she maybe swamped with farm prac work!!
 
To everyone who hasn't heard from Tufts yet - don't worry right now! I overheard a conversation on the 19th between one of the adcom people and an interviewee (malhi, was that you?), and they said that they were meeting the 19th, then this monday and tuesday, and then next monday and tuesday to make their decisions (splitting the pool into different groups or something for each day). So keep those proverbial chins up! We'll all get in, and have an awesome SDN study group starting next fall.

I'm going to get back to the celebratory Spotted Cow (Wisconsin beer, how will I give you up?) but thanks to everyone for their congratulations! I just can't believe that I finally added my name after almost two years of watching this list go by. It's definitely been a road of ups and downs.

To everyone already accepted - WE MADE IT! One way or the other, we will be DVMs in 5 years.
 
Thought I would share this with all of you...

When I got accepted to Ross, one of the vets at work said to me, "well, this is what I was told and now I am telling you...Congratulations! Your best day at vet school is now over."

(She is a really wonderful lady. As a congratulations present, she gave me a backpack filled with 100 highlighters, a beautiful set of colored pencils and 2 veterinary textbooks. She said that someone did that for her when she was accepted and now it was my turn to "pay it forward." Oh, and she said that after vet school, she came back with three of the original 100 highlighters!)
 
I hope I can tell the doctor I have been working with for three years that I get accepted :xf:!!! If not, the ultrasonographer who comes into our clinic periodically was telling me about receiving his rejection letter from Ohio State the first time he applied. He said he was so mad he kicked his grandmother's mailbox off the post and down the street!!! I don't think my landlady would approve if I don't get accepted :D

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! The letter was dated December 22 (my birthday!), but I have been on vacation for the holidays and just got home to a pile of mail with a HUGE surprise in it!

My favorite part was the idea of it now (after I become a vet) being my turn to "pay it forward". It was cool. I laughed and I cried when I got it.
