This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations to all the acceptances in this thread! I hope everyone was admitted into their top choices. Since so many members are posting, I want to share my excitement as well.

Columbia admits who got merit scholarships (and therefore the earlier deadline of 3/15) -> has anyone been successful in getting them to extend the reply date? I'd like to be able to go to the admitted student's day before making my final decision - but even the first one is post the deadline they gave me.

I sent an email to admissions asking that, but no response yet.

applied to too many schools i think

acceptances: Tulane (mch mph), Minnesota (mch mph), Emory (GH, Infectious dx. mph)
awaiting: JHSPH, Havard, TSPH.

currently at a loss on which school i will finally go to. main factors involved will be availability of funds from scholarship, but since i'm an international student i'm not sure how available that would be as i haven't received any offers so far.
plus i will need a place where it will be fairly easy to get in a residency program soon after completion.

need some advice.😕

FYI anyone who applied after Dec. 1 for an MPH shouldn't expect to hear that soon from Boston... :/

Just in talking to them, they don't appear they will have any new decisions for us within the next 2 weeks 🙁

Ugh! They told me last week that I would hear within 2 weeks. I guess they meant that email asking for more info?

I got my U Pitt BCHS acceptance a few weeks ago but just got my Global Health certificate program acceptance today. Yay!

Accepted: UPitt (BCHS MPH and GH certificate), Emory (GH, repro health)
Waiting: Boston U (IH), UNC (MCH)

When did you submit your app through SOPHAS and what program did you apply to?

Depends on school, Tulane, International health and development (but this fall it changes to Global health systems and development). Texas and USF have supplementary applications where you specify programs. All were sent to Sophas Dec. 31 and received by Jan 18th at latest.

Yay! Accepted to Michigan. Good thing, because it's the only school I applied to...!

Congrats on your acceptance! do you mind sharing your stats?

I think I'm the only one who applied to the MPH in Public Health Genetics at UW, but if I'm not, I just called their office and they said decisions would probably be mailed at the beginning of March. There is still quite a bit of waiting to do! 😱

Accepted to UIC via mail today!

Accepted: UIC, Michigan, BU, Texas, GW
Waiting: Columbia, NYU and Berkeley
Rejected: none...yet

I just got this email from Berkeley:

The School of Public Health is pleased to inform you that we have recommended to the Graduate Division that you be admitted to the MPH program in Environmental Health Sciences. You have been selected by School of Public Health faculty from a very competitive applicant pool.
In order to recommend you to the Graduate Admissions Office, we will need you to send us official transcripts from every institution attended beyond high school. These transcripts should be sent to us directly from you in one envelope via priority mail. Transcripts sent directly from the institution will be discarded. Please send your transcripts to us at the following address:

Admits 2011
UC Berkeley School of Public Health
50 University Hall #7360
Berkeley, CA 94720

Please note that the University of California, Berkeley Campus Graduate Division undertakes the final and official review. You should receive a letter from the Graduate Division regarding your admission in the near future.

So I'm guessing this is an admittance...has anyone else gotten a similar email?

I've also been admitted into Emory and Michigan and I'm waiting to hear back from Columbia, Tulane, Yale and GW.

Congrats! This is definitely an admittance! I have received similar emails from UPitts & UMich before I received the "official" acceptance email.

I hope to see one of these addressed to me soon!

Has anyone received an official letter via snail mail from U of Michigan?

Sure:

GRE: 680 verbal, 660 quant

I'm probably the only one that applied to their doctoral program ; ) But hey, it's an awesome interdisciplinary program at a fantastic school of public health. Good luck with all your applications!

Accepted - U of Michigan, OSU, U of Minnesota and Emory U

I haven't even decided where to join. I don't know how big a loan I can afford and I am waiting for some aid, job and assistantship offers. I need at least 2 months to decide.

One of the admissions letters mentions that the Enrollment deposit due date is March 1, 2011.
Can I ask for an extension? If they say 'yes', then how long an extension can I ask for.
If they say 'no', then should I cough up the $200 and change my mind later.
If I pay, will they assume that I have funds, back home, and not consider me for any aid, later?
If I contact them, should I mention that I have other options? They might politely ask me to pursue those or maybe even get offended.
What do I do?

I sent an email asking admissions why the deadline is earlier and it's so they can award someone else the scholarship before admitted students day. I did not ask if the deadline could be extended.

Congrats, that's awesome! When did you apply to UT-Houston?

Also, I didn't know someone else on here was also applying to UMDNJ. I'm waiting to hear back from them, too! Good luck =)

Oh my gosh, congrats! That's amazing, especially since Berkeley has always just seemed extra selective! I just dislike that all these schools are going to be asking for transcripts again =\ It costs me a finger each time I have to get transcripts mailed from Australia in time.

I was wondering, would you mind sharing your stats?

Congrats! Did UTH send you any information to let you know that they had recieved your application after you applied? I applied in January (late, I know) and haven't heard anything from them. Also, did they send you an acceptance letter via snail mail?

Thanks!

I applied for UMDNJ as well being I'm a NJ resident. I find it really strange that their early decision deadline is in February and regular deadline somewhere around May?

Yeah but UMDNJ has that sort of thing with a lot of its departments. It has one of the latest deadlines for submitting MD applications, too. I think it just admits on a rolling basis for most programs it has.

Ahh okay. I applied for the Early Decision, but I hope it's not binding...I never thought of that until now. Do you know anything about it?

I don't think it's binding, I think it's more like what Columbia has, which is 'a soft deadline' and a 'hard deadline'. Plus, it'd be weird to have a binding early acceptance that comes out after February, which is when most students hear back from others schools.

I've been lurking for sometime and I thought I'd post my results and ask for some advice.

I'm a doctor from India. I applied to 7 colleges, for an MPH in Health Education/Health Behavior/ Behavioral Sciences.
GPA- 3.87 ; GRE- Q-740/V-690/AW-4; 5 years of work experience especially with HIV/AIDS and infectious disease in mission hospitals and resource poor settings; not interested in getting an MD.

Accepted - U of Michigan, OSU, U of Minnesota and Emory U
Waiting - Harvard U, Boston U
??? - U of Illinois, Chicago [Even after proof reading my SOP a gazillion times I mentioned that 'the University of Chicago is one of the best schools of public health'. It's like writing a letter to Angelina Jolie but mentioning how hot Jennifer Aniston is. Ugh!]

The U of Michigan admissions letter mentions that the Enrollment deposit due date is March 1, 2011. It's as if I'm being told to accept or sod off and if I can't pay up then I should tell them quickly so that they can find the ones that can.
Can I ask for an extension? If they say 'yes', then how long an extension can I ask for.
If they say 'no', then should I cough up the $200 and change my mind later.
If I pay, will they assume that I have a pile of gold, back home, and not consider me for any aid, later?
If I contact them, should I mention that I have other options? They might politely ask me to pursue those or maybe even get offended.

I visited the U of Michigan and I liked the place a lot. U of Michigan is my first choice, but the price tag is giving me a stoke. I'd have to make a deal with Beelzebub to pay back that loan, if I'm forced to take one. What do I do?

According to the person I talked to at Emory last week, a school can request that you reply earlier, but the accrediting public health body says that a member school cannot require you to answer before April 15. Ask for an extension- I did at a school where I have been offered a scholarship, as I want to go to visit days before I accept, and it was granted.

I agree with the above poster, ask for the extension. Make sure to explain that your reason for needing an extension is based solely on financial limitations and does not reflect a diminished desire to attend U of M and they shouldn't be offended. The worst that can happen is that they say 'no' in which case I would take that as an indication that they may not be planning to offer you the money you need to go there.

According to my decision letter for UMich for EHS, I don't have to pay a deposit until April 15. I guess it varies according to department.

Glad to find others who applied to UW! I called (before I saw the previous info) and they confirmed decisions would be made by the 25th, with acceptances being sent by the 15th. Eek. The accepted students day is most March 31/Apr 1.

Has anyone heard yet from the Health Behavior/Education Depts at Hopkins or UNC? Im a little stressed considering that their accepted students days are in March....

Is anyone still waiting to hear from U of Michigan? It seems like everyone has already heard...

Accepted: Columbia (EHS Enviro and Molecular Epidemiology)
Waiting: Michigan, BU

Undergrad: Health Studies at Mich State U
GPA: 3.45
GRE: 550V, 720Q, 4W
SOPHAS Submitted 1/14

SOPHAS took forever to mail my apps out and I was pretty last minute, so I hope that's not a problem. Michigan is my top choice. Thoughts? Anyone in the same boat?

Congrats! I got in to Tulane last week. When did you submit your BU app? I still haven't heard from them besides the "application complete" email that said 4-6 weeks.

Thanks and congrats to you too!
I submitted my application to BU on 2/01, received the "application complete" email on 2/08 and haven't heard anything else yet.
Doesn't seem like anyone on this board has gotten BU decisions yet though, so I wouldn't be worried.

Strangely, my email didn't saying anything about 4-6 weeks? All it said is that they received my app and were preparing it for review, and I would receive another email in the near future regarding application status, whatever that means. 😕
