Congrats! That's great news. Would you mind sharing when you applied and/or your stats?

Thanks!

Thanks, GottaGo2School! I submitted most apps near the deadline, so UNC's was 1/31. My stats aren't the highest, but I'm happy to share. Hope it helps!

-2 years RA experience in social science research (undergrad)

Accepted: Berkeley, UNC, Emory, UMich, UPitt
Waiting: UW, UMass

I really love how personal and responsive Brown is so far. They've been extremely helpful throughout the application process. My boss is a Brown alumn and she has nothing but good things about it/ I wish I could go to the open house on March 4th but I may have to settle on a quick tour of the program when I am out east on March 18th. If you do go to the open house, let me know how it goes. Are you seriously considering Brown?

It is one of my top 2 choices for MPH and a possible Ph.D. Keep me posted!

Hi there! So far, you're the third that I know of from the board to be accepted. Congrats! Anthrovagabond and I were both notified a couple weeks ago. I haven't officially accepted my spot, but am most likely going to after the March 4 open house. I love the Brown program as well. I have been in touch with a few people at the school now and would be more than happy to give you what Ive learned; shoot me a private message!

Congrats, again, and good luck with the other two!

Hi May 3545 ( and anyone else who may help me make this decision!)-

It looks like we applied to most of the same schools and concentration. I applied to Berkeley, Columbia, UCLA, University of Washington and Harvard in Healthcare Policy and Managment. I've been accepted to the first 3 and still waitng to hear from the last 2. Just wondering where you are leaning towards going and why?

Congratulations everyone, very impressive!

I got into BU today for MPH Epi. I didn't think I was going to hear for forever because of whatever has been going on with them, especially because I didn't apply until right before the new year. I also got the merit scholarship, but I'm pretty positive that is not where I will end up. I do think it is a great program despite how annoying they have been this application cycle (extra info, and strange fin aid applications).

Now I just have to hear from UCLA.

Congrats! I am still not sure where to go in the end. I have always lived in California (grew up in Los Angeles) and currently live in northern California, so UC Berkeley would be a great option because I get to be close to family, in-state UC public tuition is cheaper, the program is outstanding (I went to their prospective MPH conference), and I get to network with all the key companies/organizations in the bay area, where I want to eventually live permanently.

HOWEVER, I would love to experience the east coast, and attending Columbia or Yale would be an awesome experience not just professionally, but personally. I don't think I'll have the opportunity or take the opportunity later on in the future when I have "settled" into my life (marriage, kids, etc.). The networks at both east coast universities are also very strong. I've researched some of the professors, and there are research interests that align with mine. Cons are the possible high expenses and risk of not finding a good job back in CA.

I did not plan to visit the schools in the east coast, but I just may have to do it. I have yet to hear from Harvard (it's most likely a rejection), but hopefully soon so I can coordinate all my visits. My priority would be to attend Yale's event on March 25th.

So I was definitely of no help to you hahaha. Good luck, we are in good positions at this point. I really do not see a BAD choice at all here, just a choice that would fit me best.

Hello,

Congratulations to everyone so far.

Thanks for sharing, HealthEdu! Did UNC give you any indication of whether there is a visiting day for admitted students? It seemed from the website that there will be one for other PH students, but perhaps not HBHE?

In any case, congrats again and good luck deciding on which school to attend--you have some great options!

I want to say there is no global visiting day at UNC. I think this is because for many programs applicants come for interviews. I've been accepted into UNC (HPM) and they have not notified me about a visiting day.

Hey GottaGo2School,

In the email I received, they invited me to an "Admitted Student Day" on March 21 (Monday). Hooray for a visit day not scheduled the weekend of March 24-25!

And thanks again - I'm waiting to hear about financial aid, but I definitely need to work on my pro/con lists. 🙂

For those of you waiting to hear back from BU. I got a letter that I was waitlisted. Not great. I think what's most annoying is that the letter said they would start notifying waitlisters on 4/1-6/30. Don't most schools have deadlines of 4/15? I probably won't end up going to BU unless they get back to me really early in that process.

Did you hear by email or snail mail for BU?

I heard via snail mail and it appears as everyone has as well.

For those who were accepted into Columbia earlier this month, do you mind listing what department(s) you applied for?

I selected Health Policy Management as my first and Epidemiology as my second. Perhaps, the HP&M department takes longer to hear from?

daZ3d,

I got accepted on Feb 9 into the Health Policy and Management program at Columbia, via email.

Did everyone admitted to Columbia 2/9 or 2/11 get a merit scholarship? It's kind of odd that no one's posted with a decision from them in 2 weeks unless that batch was only merit scholarships and the rest of us are waiting until at least March like it originally said on the website.

There were a couple of decisions posted on gradcafe on the 17th and 18th..

I was admitted to Columbia (Sociomedical Sciences - Health Promotion) on February 9th and I didn't receive a merit scholarship...

Thanks for the input! I was just trying to find a method in the madness. 🙂

Admitted feb 9 to PopFam with no scholarship

Hi again May3545-

Wow - we really have a lot of similarities. I've lived in the east bay my entire life and went to berkeley as an undergrad. I live a stone's throw away from campus- 2 blocks from University Hall. But yes, the call for something different is major for me but same thoughts for me about the cost of going out of state. Also wondering about the job prospects and advantages of staying here vs another state since I plan to eventually come back to the bay area anyway. Now, I'd really like to know what you eventually decide-🙂!

Speaking of admitted student days, have you heard about one from Berkeley?

I got my acceptance via email on 2/11 but did not get a merit scholarship.

For anyone waiting on BU, I got an email today that they received my "additional information" and hoped to have final decisions out "soon".

Also Admitted to PopFam on global health track, congratulations. Do you think that's where you'll end up?

I, too was accepted on 2/11 to the Global Health track through the Dept. of Population and Family Health. No merit scholarship.

I am still waiting on some other decisions, but it is looking pretty likely that's where I'll be!

Has anybody received any response from UTH Houston applied thru SOPHAS?

Has anybody received any response from UTH Houston applied thru SOPHAS?
I did. It just says "Admitted". I have not received any correspondence with UTH yet, and they were not very helpful in the Admissions office...

Has anyone had any luck changing programs with BU? I got admitted to the MPH/MA Health Policy and Management program, but I am also interested in the MPH/MBA option and I think that may be the better program for what I want to do. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Thanks!

Just contacted Columbia on when about shall I hear back from them further. Said they will finish sending out notifications by the end of March.... nothing special. I have yet to hear back from FOUR schools including Columbia and I'm loosing my patience here......UGHHhh

ashleyleah15,

Just clarifying...Do you see this status on SOPHAS or an email?

Got the same reply from Columbia this morning, and I have to make a decision about a school next week regarding scholarship information :/ looks like we are just going to have to wait...

This sucks x10...

I thought they would have at least let me know the earliest time I could get a decision... End of March is just too far away! 😱

Thanks...checked just now...status shows that "school will contact the applicant"...

Not sure if they have looked into my application or not? BTW when did u submit your application?

Well I applied to the MPH Health Policy and Management program and I heard a few ppl have already been accepted to that program so I dont know if that is a good sign for me... 🙁

I submitted Oct 31st to SOPHAS. It did not get sent out till Dec 29, and my decision was posted Feb 14.

Don't worry...

Waiting is killing me :-(

Oh....Are you applying for Fall 2011? I ask you this bcoz that apps deadline was Feb 1st.

I applied to the MPH Biostat program but did it after their soft deadline.... I'm not sure whether this is going to make any difference but seeing at least one person here getting accepted still upsets quite a bit. I dislike the fact that there seems no apparent way to take a guess on their next batch of decisions being out, not like some other schools. 🙁🙁🙁

Also Admitted to PopFam on global health track, congratulations. Do you think that's where you'll end up?

Thanks!! You too! Im not sure just yet... holding my breath for UNC... nervous that I havent heard yet and Ive seen one or two people on this board get acceptances... If I dont get in, Id prob end up at Columbia...
Nothing against Columbia, just currently in NYC and could use a change of pace...

Any other UNC HBHE people out there?

I have yet to hear from UNC HBHE as well! So far gotten acceptances from Hopkins, Michigan, UCLA and Berkeley, but UNC has my stomach in knots. Columbia is taking its time for me as well.

I still cant believe how foolish I was to think I'd have heard from BU back in January...
