LUCOM’s clinical rotations are spread out amongst various cities in Virginia, Texas, Mississippi and Illinois. About 2/3 of the class stays in Virginia, and the other 1/3 are in other areas. 1/3 of the class will stay in Lynchburg and not have to move for rotations. I’ve heard that most of the sites are good, and the large spread gives a good mix of different specialties and patient populations.
The curriculum is graded, non-mandatory except for a few (5-10) hours per week. There are exams every 1-2 weeks in first year and every week in second year. LUCOM had a 100% placement rate this year, including matching a student from a year prior who had not matched previously. Only 2 students SOAPed this year.
Lynchburg has a population of about 70,000. It is not on an interstate though so the nightlife and food options and shopping can be a bit boring. The weather is pretty nice here year round though and there’s lots to do outside if you like hiking and kayaking and mountain biking. Liberty has a very nice campus with great amenities that we get as part of our tuition (excellent gym, bowling alley, year round snow boarding/skiing, free athletic events). LUCOM’s facilities are newer and extremely nice also.
